I had the same desire ta go green and make a killing at it.
Truth is.. Not so easy ta do.. Never really was..

Legally at least..

Living in California and a long time stoner I've watched and learned a lot about cost of making good bud and the pay off at the end for most people.

A start up collective would run ya $15-$25 Grand- This is after ya pay the state $8-$15 grand for the right to do so...

Turn key collective- Your talking $35-$50 K and goid luck keeping their growers/supply chain...

MED size grows to supply yourself..
100+ plants indoor. .
$2-$4 k a month on just electricity not ta mention all the other cost ..

I could go on..lol $$$$$..

Then what... Now you have 100 + pound's of the best nugs anyone has ever seen.
Where ? Your house-a friends place.. Thats a lot of smells and bulk to hide and move around...

Have ya ever driven around town with 6 pounds of stank in the trunk.
Not so much fun..

Cops dont care about a doctors rec. When they see ya with a LB or more.
It's jail time my friend..
not to mention the question (where do you live again)
Which they will ask.. Then go visit before u get bailed out.

Ok.. so none of that happens to you... great.. I'll give you $1100 a LB...
$200 more than I give anyone eles.. Cause yours is pure Fire..

Guess what.. You'll say no and sit on it cause no one will give more than me and your to proud to sell so cheap..

I can't afford to do that then! Is that why there are so many black market farmers out there still? That seems pretty unfair for the grower to have to give the gov that much loot off the bat...

Straight up..
Black Market as all avenues to the hook up are location & demand driven as price goes.

Where there are a lot of collectives near by.
Black market guys are just people that cant sell there massive amounts of weed for even the cost of growing it.
You can find $60 OZ at a lot of collectives right now.

Take your stuff- 50 miles from a collective and you can make (At cost)money.
100 miles and ya got a little profits (you get the idea)

I guess you can say.. Right now. .
The whole marijuana issue is in a flux.

We - as a nation and as a state (CA)have hit both extremes with prices.
Super high 3 years ago ta super low today.
(You can thank the outdoor and 1000+ indoor guys that thought the prices would stay high this winter)

Thats how collectives get ta sell $60 oz.. Ops...

The B.M. and collectives are competitors and seem to be doing a supply and demand game..

If a collective wont drop the price or pay more for what I want to give them.
I as a grower will take my nugs a block away and under sell your collective till ya pay me more or your out of business.
But..
If I cant under sell you because you dropped prices, then I sell to you at cheap or smoke a lot more weed everyday.. (sit on it)

This will change again next winter and for a few more year's with less extreme fluxes.

As there are a lot less 1000+ and huge outdoor people this season.

Call it a lessons learned year..

That and more states are Medical and a few are legal.
New short lived opportunities ta make a career with pot.(career meaning-semi legal~pay taxes)

All the while. . There's the federal issue causing havoc-
Lots of good people done gone behind the steel bars of injustice.
Due to their desire and dreams of getting rich this year.

Imagine... Beating all the odds..
You grow ya 1000 and are heading ta get payed.
Sold, easy life, here you come....
Bam..
pulled over for no turn signal. .

1000 lbs = 25 ta life. . So close...

Has happened more than once this year...

Back to the market..lol

Prices next year will be as close to stable as you'll see for then next 5-6..

Winter 2013 Will be a good idea of what you can really make selling/collecting donations for the next few years, till marijuana becomes legal on the federal level. Which Legal is not the right term.. (Thats another book- so I'll skip it)

And yes the state takes a ton of cash ta let ya grow 99 and sell is another ton of cash THEN they tax what you sell till you save a ton of money and then they call the feds and have them bust you and take that cash and put ya butt in prison so theres room for the next guy with fresh fees and start the game again..

Sucks.. No...

For me.. Weed is worth what im not paying for weed after the cost of me growing it.

Till a month ago..
I was paying $300 a oz once a month.
Now im sitting on lots of good weed for personal use.

My weed is worth $300 minus cost..
So..
$225 a oz (around) is it's worth...
But...
Im making 11, 000 + seeds which are priceless. .lol

My cost to make the same oz next season drops and my weed next year and beyond is worth $275..+...

Not to mention its safe and easier to sell/trade and move seeds...
Or..
The smart move...
Spend a few years and make better seeds/strains and be remebered forever as the guy that created that strain.. EPIC...

Don't listen to these guys. There's a lot of money out here to be made. You won't really make it being a caregiver though. The best thing to do is to stay underground with 10-20 lights (under 100 plants), and make sure you have the best stuff around. The reality is that most growers have weak strains that aren't grown too well. You have to be the top 5-10% of growers and you will make a great living. The product is key in this new market. I'm on the East Coast and things have changed from the past in terms of prices. We went from 6k p's to 4k p's. Most of the Cali stuff sells for between 3-3.5 a p. Your product has to be of the highest quality and the clients will be waiting. Only thing that sucks about that is that you have to be creative on finding your clients. I can't tell you how to do that but you have to put yourself out there.

So basically what youre saying is it's a better/safer bet to become a breeder than opening a collective? That would be pretty interesting actually, a lot of pride in breeding your own strains. That's a whole new ball game aside from growing too, would keep things interesting to say the least!

A safer path-for sure and beans can bring in a pretty penny as well..

One never knows what opportunity might show it's self as ya do your thang.
Cultivating a finer cannabis plant than any has seen before..
To be honest though.. This is not a quick path..
Lots of pollen chuckers out there.. Few true artists. ..

Not to say one cant grow out a few pounds here and there...
Just seems like stress sitting on tons at a time, ta me...

Seemed ta me the premises was how to make a living and a difference in the marijuana industry...
By simply not paying for weed (once ya harvey ya own) You are saving/making money.
In my humble opinion. . There are lots of ways ta start making a living with herb.
Some safer tan others. Some more helpful and so on..

For me.. I had this same idea PnP is asking 4 years ago when I'd dawned on me I was missing the wave.. (MED 215)

Lucky for me.. I read and looked around before I jump straight to 99+ ladies my 1st try at growing.
Then I gave up on the ideas as I realized I had miss the boat and only breaking even on my cost and enery with a ever present danger of prison. . Was not my goal.

So I just had fun and at the tail end of my 1st season, it dawned on me...(long pause)

A 5 season path to becoming a Cannabis Cultivator and make a living doing it.
This plan became solid once I recouped my cost of season 1 with seeds.
(Totally unexpected)

Now Mid-way through season 2. On track and archiving set goals.
I become more confident in my direction...

By that definition this thread is by no means a bust.
Rather..
By PnP asking and me and others sharing and then more coming in and correcting and exspanding the thought. Those of us with half a sence (might learn somethin) or at least have free fun talking the talk (as if I have a clue) (now thats a Bust)

Yeah thats a great episode, I think it gives you a real sense of where the industry's at right now and almost for tells the future of it. I think the guys making good money out there are predicting where it will be in the near future and then JUMPING on it ahead of time so they're locked n loaded for when it blows up.

I've always been interested in seed production but creating stable crosses seems like a lot of time an effort - not necessarily a bad thing but it will require a lot of research and know-how for sure.

How are you making it in the industry Alien??

I have a career outside the industry. (Making good $)
Im looking to change over and make a career I want to be in.

I recoup cost with crossed seeds.
Working on setting up a delivery service with seed & clone this summer.
Once I start breeding after season 5.
I will focus on opening a Seed/clone only dispensery and becoming a personal grower for the rich and famous (no joke) California babe..
All the while ill be working on my 1st stable strains.
Then who knows...

Forgot ta add that im playing with the idea of sending a 1000 or so beans ta the Seedbay and see how that goes..
Lots of competition there though, might be hard to stand out in the crowd.

Beans come 1st, then we'll see..
