Basics of cooking the Herb

The most basic important things to remember in cooking with pot

1. It is only FAT soluble. For those who don't know what that means, the THC in the weed will not soak into lets say water. It'll only work with butter, oil, lard, and the like.

2. Whether baking or cooking, its always best to let the pot simmer in the fat for as long as possible. Most only simmer for 30 minutes, but I've had a much noticeably better batch when it simmered for almost 2 hours.

3. While simmering, you probably won't be able to tell unless you have a food thermometer, but try not to let the oil heat over 140-150* F (It will lose potency). If it starts to rapid boil, its definitely over that temperature and should be taken off the heat immediately. The key to this is simmer.

4. Once the oil or fat is ready, it can be used for desserts and entrees alike, but don't over cook the fat, again, for it will lose potency.

Hope this was helpful :)

Don't mean to be a nitpicker but THC degenerates at around 150 degrees Celcius or around 370 degrees Farenheit. Isin't it??

Couldn't ya just empty out the deep fat fryer and put a block of butter in then drop the buds and leaf in once the butter has melted? That way you have the temp control too. Trouble is I dont know whether the 150-190 is for F or C.

I'm 99.999% sure it's 150 degrees C. For example, every "firecrackers" dish, recipe I've seen require you to set the oven temps to 320 degrees F for 20-25 min approx. I mean, 65 degrees C (150 F) is little more than 50% boiling point. And if my memory serves me correctly, the boiling point of water is significantly less than the degeneration threshold for THC.

THC starts to degrade at 32º (89.6 f), and from there and on it degrades more and more as temps rise. It's more a question of what can be concidered acceptable loss...

Well you also have to remember pretty much any way you consume cannabis it degrades the potency of the bud. It's basically impossible to not degrade it in some way when you're cooking with it. As long as you don't have it be boiling hot it won't effect it that bad. I usually cook my cannabutter slightly over the low setting on the stove in a large pot with a large pyrex beaker with the cannabutter mixture. I just stick my finger in it and it's warm and not hot to the touch it's fine then simmer it for a couple hours. Also remember when you smoke bud you use a lighter which is extremly hot and degrades the potency way worse than simmering on a low heat on your stove.
