Nice work.

Bangi is taking over!

Undomesticated - Notice how yellow mine are looking. I have not given any fertilizer since July 1. I have found multiple posts warning not to let this one get too ripe. I harvested with a sprinkling of fresh pistils across the top most buds, and just a few amber resin heads spotted. I tend to harvest early, and this strain seems to fit what I like to do anyway. I would try several harvests till you dial it in.

Best of Luck,

ThaiBliss

The experience the clean and energetic effect.

To be clear, I have only harvested one plant in the past, with harvests about a week apart for testing. No difference in the window that I harvested at, and I was very happy. I am only relaying information that I have read, posted by Dubi and by Charlie Garcia.

Thanks for the info ThaiBliss! As it happens, it was 8 weeks for mine. All of the pistils were brown, but the buds had not developed much. You know how most plants seem to go through phases of fattening? It seemed to have only gone through the first big burst of early-mid flower. Never had that trouble before, but I've never really dealt with anything else like it.

My Bangi Haze went 9 weeks, so yours is right in there.

I posted these pictures before, but I'll repost so you can easily see:

In this pic above, you can see a few scattered white pistils at the top.

I love the pictures posted by Cannabisso.

I'm not sure I'd describe the high as especially euphoric, but the combination of euphoric, energetic, and long lasting without a trace of couch-lock or let down just tends to make for a great day. Part of it is feeling good, active, and getting things done that give me a sense of satisfaction on a day well spent.

You know... I have never smoked this in the evening. This is my wake and bake that I use when I have plans that I don't want thwarted, and I wonder if I would judge it differently in an end of day setting.

I didn't know you had already run her indoors... did you re run this cut outdoors, I was under the impression the outdoor was a seed run?

beautiful Sativa buds, and that is the high that I want right there... I have some punta rosa (panama x colombian red dot) on the way too, that is supposed to be along the same lines as far as the effects go.

Hello,

I wanted to say one thing about the high the I forgot to include. The best way that I would describe the high is... having a positive vibe. Yes, it was euphoric, energetic, and perception enhancing, but the most prominent feeling was a feeling of positive attitude towards life and people. I swear this weed makes me a better person. Irie.

I sprouted 3 seeds, had one female, but I let that first cut go by the wayside. My current outdoor is the rest of the seeds, in addition to a Nepal Jam.

I'm interested in what you think of the Punta Rosa, but that is for another thread.

Best Vibes,

ThaiBliss,

Thanks for the response! To give you a better idea of the plant I was speaking of, it almost looked like a haze. Very thin and spindly leaves on limp branches, if you know what I'm getting at. But at 8/9 weeks when I harvested it, while virtually all of the leaves had fallen off and all of the pistils were darkened, the bud development was very slight. It seemed like I was still waiting for the final bud push that never came. The end result is more like a collection of popcorn buds than the nice, thick colas in your pictures.

The smoke ended up being somewhat milder than expected, and while there was no couchlock, it is not especially positive or motivating, either. Could be an individual reaction thing, I suppose.

Any ideas on if or how I might've messed up? I've enjoyed other ACE offerings without issue, so I don't fault them. I'm not very experienced with the more sativa/tropical side of things, anyway.

Undomesticated,

Do you have pictures? Have you only tried one? Did you keep a cutting?

Maybe you did not mess up. I would try another individual, if you have more seeds. I would keep the first one, in case you find that changing something makes it better. Then I'd grow another and take multiple harvests over a period of time to see if it has a different harvest window than what you are used to.

B.T.W., I also grow under very bright light. I mix the light together with 400 watt metal halide daylight lamp and a 400 watt high pressure sodium, all in a 3 foot x 3 foot cabinet. This is about 90 watts per square foot. It needs a lot of fan power to try and keep it cool. I grow with much less fertilizer than most people do.

Do you smoke strains with couch-lock often? I have a theory that heavy smokers of couch-lock strains are not as sensitive to cleaner and more subtle effects that some Cannabis strains can have. I used to be a very heavy smoker of anything I could get my hands on. Now I only smoke occasionally, and refuse strains that I have already tried that are heavy on the couch-lock. I am now more snobby than ever. Try laying off for a while and smoking it, or restrict yourself to the cleaner strains for a while, if you can find them, before trying the Bangi Haze again. Many people report that a long cure can help.

With all this being said, I decided to kill my first cutting about an hour after I first smoked it. I have a SAGE cutting that is pretty good, and somewhat similar effect. But this was before I realized how long the Bangi high lasted. Since smoking more Bangi Haze and Bangi Haze hash, the strain has really grown on me. I'm making more seeds of it, because it is rare to find something so clean, and with such an early ripening date. I think it has potential for being a good breeding tool for crossing with more potent strains to make them ripen earlier, without ruining the highs with couch-lock.

I'm planning on crossing Bangi Haze with a highland Mexican, a Thai strain, and a Jamaican. I'm never satisfied, but that is part of the fun. One thing I know is... that Bangi Haze is going to get spread around in my neck of the woods.
:dance013:

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Hello ThaiBliss!

Your descriptions of the Bangi Haze do sound enticing, but I am a tad sceptical when you speak about maturing/finishing time since my Bangis haven't started flowering yet.
Of course there's still quite a while ahead and I only hope that early October will be chop-chop time:biggrin:
As for its high, your persuasion will have to wait till next year when hopefully I will sample the first Bangi nugs:biggrin:

Hi Orfeas,

Thanks for good vibes.

Here are some close-ups of the buds I took today:

picture.php

picture.php

The first one is Bangi Haze, and the second is Nep Jam. They are both flowering without a doubt. I have one Bangi that looks like it is about to start, but still hasn't. The sunrise and sunset times today at my location are:

Sunrise: 6:21am
Sunset: 8:14pm

I did not look up your location. If you are experiencing more hours of darkness at your location, then there are two possible explanations:

1.) Luck of the draw on phenotypes
2.) The fact that the decrease in hours of daylight at this time of year is much faster the farther north you are. As you get closer to the equator, the change is less and slower.

The big advantage you may have is a later first frost date. November is the first month of normally significant rainfall. September and October all always iffy. If it rains in an early month, it can get cool and foggy, which is a killer for plants by way of mold. We usually get a frost in October, but this can vary greatly, just like the start of rainy season.

What are your sunrise/sunset times?

G' day ThaiBliss!

My nepjam(s) is in due course, no worries...
The "wed" one is seeding alright, not heavily though since I culled the "groom" a week ago:biggrin:

But the Bangis...Look for yourself...

Sunrise: 06:38
Sunset: 20:18

Frost? What's that?
Mild autumn all the way to the solstice, except for humidity that can sometimes be quite excessive and that's when mould sets in along with worries.
Anyway, the delay of flowering of the Bangis might be luck of draw as you put it...

Bangi in the 1st pic, Nepjam(not the wed one) in the 2nd.

Undomesticated,

Your leaves are clawing over pretty good, indicating a nutrient/moisture issue. This will hugely impact your yields and growth times. I see this clawing in my ACE plants if my soil is too wet and/or over 800-900ppm nutrient solution. I've experienced this with; Viet black Thai, OT Haze x's, Malawi, Zamaldelica, Panama, and creases of all.

Look at SOTF's plants for examples of superior health. All leaves are standing erect, green, angled upward towards the light. Almost looks like they're opening their arms to they sky, just basking in the glory of their artificial sun.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips! I'm not familiar with SOTF's grows, unfortunately, but I believe I know the traits you speak of...

I should have said, as far as the plant's current state goes, I've been a bit incapacitated recently and haven't been taking as much care of things as I normally like to, especially watering. I'm also pretty inexperienced with this type of cannabis expression.

It ended up clawing a lot during the first run as well. Never had that problem with any other plant, though those were obviously of more traditionally hybrid natures. I don't generally add extra nutes to what comes in the soil (with the exception of some earthworm castings), and this one is being re-vegged in the same soil already used. I've got an Orient Express from seed growing in very similar soil and it's doing what you described: standing upward, nice color, and is quite vigorous.

Do you think I should try flushing the soil some, or perhaps focus more on my watering schedule? I'm planning on making some seed tea, at least. It always had that nice "upward praying leaves" effect when I used it in the past on other plants. Maybe it will help smooth things out here.

I wouldn't add anything to their water for a few waterings. I would let things dry out just a bit between watering and make sure to have good drainage from the pots and planting medium. I've had the best results using a fairly worn out soil/planting mix and adding nutrients to my water 600-900ish ppm. It just allows me to benchmark things more accurately.

A good idea would be to look up some SOTF threads and see what he does. After you look through a few threads you might spot something he does a little differently. Check everything out, air temps and movement, soil or hydro, planter to plant sizes, anything and everything.
