There was a city in the LA area that was using that or a similar system about a year or so back. It was supposedly discontinued, although like this, not until it had been 'disclosed' that had been in use for some time. I recall reading that the tech had been developed for use in the Iraq conflict.
I could not help but wonder what percentage of readers would believe that.

Speaking of illegal surveillance, here is a fellow from Chicago that made millions from the installation of red light cameras.

As part of the patronage army of House Speaker Michael Madigan, Bills rode his political connections to rise from street lamp maintenance man to the No. 2 post in the Transportation Department in 32 years with the city. In January, a federal jury convicted him on all 20 counts, including bribery, conspiracy, extortion and fraud, for steering tens of millions of dollars in red light camera contracts to an Arizona company, Redflex Traffic Systems Inc.

This guy received a mere ten years in prison yesterday. He was paid at least $2,000,000 in cash and tangible goods. I read in an article yesterday he was paid $2,000 for every camera this company installed. Who knew changing light bulbs was so lucrative? POS. As long as he was getting his, he didn't mind fucking the citizenry over.
