Bagseed mystery

I have a question. I've been reading up quite a bit trying to find my own answers but I'm stumped.

My nephew gave me some seeds to grow. I had mentioned to him that I wanted to try a grow experiment just to see if I could do it. Well he popped up with some seeds that he assured me were Purple Urkle. I have serious doubts about that.

In keeping with New Mexico state law I have four plants for MM grow.

I hear a lot about the plants having a very strong odour issue during the flowering stage. Here's my question:

Has anyone had experience with strong odours from the plants during the vegging stage? I still have about 20 days to go before I switch but I've noticed a very strong spicy/lemony/astringent smell coming from my plants. Not only that but when I smell them up close, the smell is very skunky. I mean VERY skunky. Plus when I handle the stems or leaves the smell lingers on my fingers.

Has anyone heard of this or had experience with this? If so, what strain was it?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses. :chin:

i think everyone here who grows has had to deal with smell. get a carbon filter bro and take care of that shit before it becomes a security risk. you do not want someone smelling your plants who is not supposed to. hell you can even make a carbon filter at home just do a search for it. the money spent on one of these is a lot cheaper than what you'll be spending on a lawyer.

Thanks for the input. So it is common before flowering to have an odour issue?

Totah Sam,

Yes most plants also put off smells during veg. Smell is usually not as strong during veg but it's most always present. They will def funk up during flower tho so get ready....

Thank you so much. I guess when something becomes common knowledge it isn't discussed very much :p

I have the odour situation under control. I just didn't know if it was common for vegging plants to put off so much stink. It's almost a geranium like smell with some skunk oil thrown in for kicks.

just so ya know no one on here is going to be able to tell you for certain what strain it is unless its the person who gave it to you.

My apologies for the confusion. I was wondering if the smell during vegging was a trait from a particular strain. I wasn't aware that this was common to all strains. :)

Thank you kind sir. I'm hoping this will be as enjoyable to smoke as it is to grow. I have enjoyed watching every stage of their development.

Thanks!

He said it gave him a nice cerebral high. I don't even know if it's a sativa, indica or a combination of both. Finding out is going to be the fun part.

I work with an unstable variety (Thai) so it gives me several different phenotypes. I choose my stock plants by using my nose...I take my cuttings off the stinky ones, and cull the ones with no odor.

You nailed it man! These are the words i could use to describe my plant's odour during vegging.

Please don't ask what strain i'm growing.
I have no idea :(

But who cares :) it's free. Good luck

We are growing a Purple Erkle clone right now. So far is has pheno types that suggest sativa dominant to me. The leaves are getting super long, as I hear is supposed to happen with Erkles.
Our Erkle grow thread is on the HomeGrown 420 wedbsite, not sure if I am allowed to post a link on the IC forum, so I won't. But if your interested check out the website and do a search, there is a lot on the Purple Erkle out there, plus others.
Look forward to see these girls progress. I am taking a seat on this one.

That's the best description I could think up. I use a natural cirtrus deodorizer and it blends well with the vegging smell. I actually find the odor very pleasing and refreshing.

The leaves on my babies are getting rather long. Maybe my nephew is right. Doesn't matter though. Like Ganjaleaving said, It's free so who cares. Thanks for the lead, I'll check it out. :D
