Hiya all, this is my first grow ever so bear with me, I'm sure I'll need tons of help. I decided to use bagseed for my first grow because I didn't want to waste any good genetics. There are three plants total...here they are at 3 days veg:
It's been 6 days, 9 days veg. and they are still looking pretty good. I am starting to notice some brown spots on the leaves...kind of worrying me. Also, on Plant 2 the tips are brown in color and Plant 1 seems to have brown spots developing on the leaves as well as a twisting characteristic. What kind of deficiency is this or is it something else? They are only at 9 days here:
-Pictures 1+2 are Plant 1, Pic 2 is Plant 2, Pic 3 is Plant 3 (looking pretty good), sorry I am just getting the hang of this upload thing.
Weedman. What's up dude? Give me some more info on these lil guys. In the meantime i'll tell you what i think is going on. I think you may have a ph issue. Magnesium and calcium are absorbed best at a ph of 6.5 in soil. If you ferted already (not good) expect them to get worse, before they get better. i had a similiar issure working from seed a while back, i was low on cash and bought some miracle grow soil from wally world, after ferting the ph was low and resulted in twisting/spotting on the lower leaves. Learned my lesson real quick, back to organics for good.
Hello again, here are the babes (I hope) at 15 days veg. (today). These pictures should be better, hopefully I can get some help as to what these plants are lacking because there is obviously something wrong. It seems like the newer leaves on top are nice and green, while the lower leaves are twisting and developing brown and yellow spots all over. Help me please!!! I haven't used any fertilizer other than what was in the Miracle Gro Seed Starting soil. Could they be ready for their first dose? Thanks...
In these two pics, you can really see the lower leaves and the twisting I was talking about.
This plant, #2 is out of control, I guess it developed a split stem? Kind of curious whats going on there...
Plant 3 is still looking the healthiest but below you can see those brown spots starting to develope.
I am using Miracle Gro Seedling Soil, I had planned to transplant into potting soil after three weeks. Should I do it sooner? I guess I need to get a ph tester eh?
The problem with miracle grow soil is that most of them come with time release fert. This makes it hard to judge nutes levels. Your new growth looks good on the two healthier plants. That second one though looks like a mutant. I suggest repotting with non ferted soil and giving a good dose of espom salt when watering after the transplant. 1 tablespoon (per gal.) with some warm water to dissolve the salts and fill the rest up with room temp water (preferrably distilled). Ride it out and see what happens. No nutes for now though and when you do use them use 1/4 strength and work up from there. I'm gonna be watching and trying to help along the way. Check this bad boy out:
You have to get seed starter potting soil.It has no nutes,If I were you I would, I cant beleive i'm saying this but, I would yank those 3 and start again since they are bag seed and have been overfertilized which in my humble opt.causes stress which could cause them to go male or hermie.Just think of it this way you can call the next 3 your 2nd grow lol
One other problem you may have had was to big of pots to start them in. Seedlings only need damp soil, and when you have all that extra area that always stays wet because it is "empty" space. Its good with seedlings to let the soil dry between waterings and the big pots dont allow for that to happen. When the soil gets dry between waterings a seedlings roots will grow at a very rapid pace, which makes for a healthy plant. Next time try starting them in peat pots and transplant into 16 oz cups after about a week and then into a gallon pot at about 2 and a half weeks or so. I used to start them in qt pots but I have found out I have a lot healthier plants with multiple transplants.......
Thanks to everyone for their advise and help thus far. I checked my soil and it was Seed Starting Potting Soil, but under that it said "Enriched with Miracle Gro Plant Food." I guess I missed that when I bought the bag. PhilosophyAskew - thanks for your advise, I think I am going to try and transplant them into some new soil in the future and wait it out. heavyTHC - i accept your advise graciously and would start a second grow, but I am almost finished building another grow cabinet (should be done this weekend) and once that is up, i will start my second grow right away. Because of this fact, I'm just going to wait it out with these plants and see what happens. Plus, Plant 2 has too much character for me to kill now, I am amazed every time i look at that ugly thing. JJScorpio - Thank you so much for your advise, I never really thought that pot size was too important, and your right that I have a ton of soil space that isn't actually even being used. I'm sure this isn't working to the benifit of my plants. When I start this second grow, in which I plan to plant 5 Satori seeds, I will definetly start in smaller pots. To all of you watching this grow, I will try to update in 1 - 2 weeks to show you their progress. Thanks to everyone thus far for your help...
If you are going to be waiting it out and have the room, then why not try an experiment. Wait until the plants are about the 7 nodes high, then top of the first 3 nodes and clone them. Their are many methods out there that will work. I've use jiffy pucks and a dome (available at wallyworld). This will do a couple of things for you. First you will get experience cloning which is an essential for any grower. Second after the plants have rooted you will have fresh healthy plants to work with. Plant them is fresh new soil (not any preferted) and they will grow like cannabis is supposed to. You shouldn't need to fert them for a couple weeks after planting. And when you do they will be more tolerable than seedlings. Also considering adding about half a cup of fine dolomite lime per gallon of soil to buffer the ph and supply calcium and magnesium
