High friends! My question is simple. Can an bad outdoor soil be converted into a good one?
Example: we have good outdoor location which is on a top of the mountain. We want to grow our the best autos. BUT the soil is poor. It is a clay with poor drainage. We must bring out own soil to grow there... but... can we bring, instead of 20 gallons of good commercial soil (for five plants), say a mixture of high grade chicken compost or bird compost, say 5 gallons, one gallon for each plant + some styrofoam, for drainage? That will be native soil, enriched with nutritions, and improved with styrofoam for drainage. I think it CAN be done, because i think, when plant grown with hydro, our lovely plants don't grow in soil (which is a natural form of medium), but in water with added nutes. I never grown hydro, but it is the system? Water is medium, and nutes are what plant really needs for life... Can poor soil with improved drainage and improved nutes, be medium to plant?
