automatic drying box?

Guest

Has anyone built or tried to build a automatic drying box?

I am looking for idea's, as to where to start.

Here is my idea's

say you build a drying box with multiple shelves 4' wide x 2' deep x 3 foot high

now get a small fan to blow through the top (or bottom) to circulate air.

get 2 humidity sensors, one sensing the outside air, and the other sensing the air leaving the drying box.

After the air leaving the box gets close to the outside humidity, it shuts off the fan?

(say work it out to 20% humidity of the buds)

Anyone care to try talk about ide'a??

just curious if you guys think this would work?

POW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. is there already a product on the market that does this? (not looking for SPEED driers)

i know he has better pix, but i can't find them...

it has 2 or 3 shelves that are supported by the ribs inside the tub.

there ia a pc type fan that draws out the moisture. (i think). :chin:

I dont use a box but built a killer table real easy.I just used 2 by 4s about 5 ft long and 3 ft high and stapled chicken wire on the top.You can set the table under a ceiling fan or put oscillating fans underneath blowing up or both.I can dry around an lb at a time not stacking buds on buds

What i am looking for is a design that will be "set it, and forget it"

simply put i would like to design a box that will put out 20% moisture buds, by monitoring the out flow from the fan.

just need help with the tech stuff.

any one know anything about humidistats, controllers??

thanks

Had one made out of a 38 gallon rubbermade...just used a 4" 110v muffin fan in the short side that kicked on for 1 hour every 6 and cut an equal sized hole on the opposite end for intake. Run some string or wire across it every 2-3" to hang em from and just slap the lid on it and check it every couple of days.

You idea with the humidity sensors probably won't work since the ambient RH is probably alot higher in your house...so it'll never stop running on it's own unless you live in a very arid locale.

Well all I gotta swear by this thing. Taste's better, dry's faster and lose less weight with no odor so what more can ya ask for.

The thing is this baby somehow keeps the temps controlled for the perfect dry. I just had 2 1/4 pounds of C99 in it and it took 2 1/2 days to be perfect for Jars. To hang and dry with this heat I know would have killed the flavor for sure, $225.00 for the dryer and to me with the results it gives I would have paid more.

my point is you are drawing in air at a set humidity of the room. Since the buds are expelling moisture the out going humidity would be higher.

now if a system of humidistats can be designed then it should be able to adjust it to dry down to 20% and then shut off the fan.

is it doable?

225 ... there's gotta be a DIY way ... Its a couple of brackets for shelves ... A tub and some type of fan with a carbon filter wrapped around it ...

Plus I bet you could construct even larger ones to do up to 5 lb. at a time and still pay less than 225 after making 2 of the 5 lb ones ...

Mr. Wags - could you possibly supply some detailed pictures of this thing - maybe something with the filter off and what the brackets look like ect ... This thing just appears WAY too easy to construct to allow myself to purchase one for 200 +
