Automatic Compost Machine

That thing is cool. With compost every 2 weeks, you could have compost tailor made for each phase of grow. If you check the link, you'll see they use a carbon filter which you can refill. Much like our DIY. Wonder if they been peeking here? Neat idea. $400

400$!!! ****!!!! ive built a tumbler for 25$. get the ingredients right and you got quality compost in two weeks. it does take a little effort to turn it on the side and roll it to mix things up but saved me 300$ and the mess of a huge compost pile that takes MONTHS to finish so im happy. ive had it about 2 months and have made about 3 batches of GOOD compost. i love how i just toss in the ingredients, add my compost activator, and set it and forget it. roll once every 3-4 days.

Damn !! JayKush, you just gave me a damn good idea for a mod to my homemade compost bin. I like the threaded rod idea bu I'm gonna use 1/2 sch. 40 PVC and drill a bunch of holes in it. I'll then drill 1/2 in. holes on opposite sides of the can. I think i'm gonna do two of these in the middle of the can about 18 in. apart. I'll use an "x" in the middle and 1/2 in. Male Threaded Adapters with metal nuts like they use for PVC Conduit on the outside.

This is great! ! I've been using this can strictly as storage but i think i'll do these mods and give it a whirl as a compost bin. The PVC will help it stay rigid when filled and being rolled around and it will provide air if i don't get a round to rolling it around. Thanks for the inspiration JayKush ! !

hey johnny yea this was the first draft of the tumbler really. theres a few things i would change and am going to when i build like 3 more. first im going with straight bars across instead of the 8 singles in there now (most are covered they help aerate A LOT) but im sure the full bars would keep it more stable and break up material better. next would be to better fit the lid on with a few nuts and bolts. also one of those tough trashcans would help it was only 10$ more but i didn't have it on me.

leave this thing in the sun and the compost temp shoots up speeding the process for quick compost. also when it rains the compost doesn't get soaked slowing the composting or when its really hot (it got to 112 outside one day) and the compost stayed moist and perfect.

that is a real nice tumbler you made, it probably works just as well or better than the $300 ones they sell at the garden shops.

jaykush: I've got some friends that are helping me build a tumbler out of a cement mixer and pvc pipes with holes drilled in them for outdoor next year. So yeah it can be done way bigger and cheaper but cool machine regardless. A timer can be hooked up to a tumbler and turned with a small motor for semi-automation.

oh yea i was told to use a old cement mixer as well after i built this. a timer sounds excellent for that type of thing. then all you have to do is toss the stuff in.

The Man in the Video suggest adding veggie scraps, meat, fish and chicken.

Interesting........

Not what I call compost...

I wonder what the nutrient content would be for "compost" made with this machine using meats and fish?

Man that has to be a nasty smelling mix.

I do like the idea of an indoor composter.
