I've been dabbling here and there for the last year or so with some autoflower genetics, auto ak's from lowlife. Unfortunately the genetics were lost after my former partner died in an auto accident and another individual came through and "cleared out" the house. The son of a bitch basically looted the place including a bunch of my stuff as I had been living there for a time, although I was not living there at that point. So, I'm kinda in the process of trying to get those genetics back as there was one really nice "giant" pheno that came out that yielded 6oz. Hard to believe for an autoflower.
Anyways at this point I'm trying to contact the person who got all that stuff, but he's suddenly hard to reach, lol. If I can't get them back I'll order some more and make 'em again. The other strain of major interest for me is Solar Warrior's Early Wonder Skunk. The Early Wonder Skunk's are supposed to finish right in the beginning of August. I'm not positive but I believe that they are full auto.
My plan for next year is to do a larger run of the faster auto ak's(70-80days) early in the season, slightly fewer Early Wonder Skunks, and I'm thinking maybe a few larger ones as well like Lethal Purple or something(non auto but early). I'm going to try and stagger the harvests to make things as easy as possible. I may end up doing a few more early wonder skunks than I plan as I here that they are cloneable. The clones are supposed to yield less overall though as they have less veg time before flowering.
Depending on how things go I might do multiple runs of the auto AK's through the summer. I was also thinking about maybe trying out some of lowlife's other stuff like the white russian, lemon skunk, and blueberry. It would be nice to have a variety. I'm hoping to be able to do a feminized seed run for these guys as pulling the males in a large set up is basically impossible. Although I could just do seed/hash runs, hash is always nice. Maybe later season if the first run goes alright.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about starting these/transplanting them outdoors. The auto ak's will be germed inside for about 2 weeks or so until they begin to flower. They should still be at a transportable size at that point, I hope. Anythings transportable really, its just a matter of how convenient it is.
There's a couple different planting strategies that I had in mind, I'm not really sure which is best/most practical at this point. The most ideal way to plant them would be to just till up and prepare a bed the desired size, or beds planting 1 plant every square foot. This would take a really good location and I'm a little worried of a prepared bed being spotted from the air. For this reason I was thinking about doing them in long stretches (lines almost, just not uniform). With this either a narrow strip/bed can be prepared for a distance or i was actually thinking about going with a minimal prep appproach and trying out one of those augers, either the drill attachment or if that wasn't enough one of the hand ones. Do minimal prep, drill out hole through in dry nutes(thinking AN heavy harvest) and some water crystals and transplant the plant.
Here's an issue that I've been thinking about that I have not heard addressed with the autoflowers and that is fertilization. The ak's only veg for 2 weeks and then they go into flower. So I was thinking about starting them in a veg blend soil mix and then when they get transplanted giving them the flowering nutes right then, otherwise I think it'll be kinda hard to get them the proper nutes at the right time.
Like I mentioned before I've already found one giant pheno in the auto ak's, whether I get it back or find it again is another story. With this being said I'm hoping that these plants will yield an ounce a piece knowing that some of them have the ability to yield 4-6 ounces in ideal conditions(that was indoors in coco)
I'll probably only do the first run like that just to get it out early and then from there if I do more I'll prolly strike them at the patch.
Now I don't know as much about the early wonder skunk as I've never worked with it before. I'm not sure whether it's full auto or not and what kind of vegging strategy is best for it. If it's feasible I'd like to do feminised seed run of these as well to really utilize the seedling vigor. Worst case scenario, the strain is supposed to be clonable, it'll just yield slightly less. The EWS is supposed to yield about 4 oz's by the beginning of august.
So now looking at this if I put out 200 auto ak's, 40-80 EWS, and 10-20 Lethal Purple's in the beginning of June. These earlier strains are being utilized because I'm located in a cooler mountainous New England area.
I would need to do one seed run this winter for the auto ak's and the EWS. If I can get ahold of them my former partner and I made a good 50,000 or so of those auto ak seeds already, but somebody has gripped them up already at this point. When I get ahold of them I believe they'll be reasonable about it, lol.
I might not do the Lethal Purple's but I figured that it would be nice to have something big coming down at the end of the season as well. It just doesn't feel right if your not harvesting and it's harvest season, I know as I've just moved this summer which made just about anything impossible as it was a fairlly substantial move distance wise, about 500 miles or so.
It rains pretty frequently here up until about august so water shouldn't be an issue, but just in case I am thinking about digging a reservoir or two and if I'm feeling real spunky maybe even running some irrigation. It's more of a back up thing though and I don't believe that it will be necessary as it rained here a good amount this season, and I believe it does so pretty consistently every season. Between the rain, the water crystals, and the short time they're actually in the ground I doubt that water will be an issue.
If anybody has any suggestions such as other strains, fertilization/prep strategy, and also timing as far as starting them.
