Interesting question, but no I personally don't trim them any differently.
Everyone has their own personal preference on the degree they trim, if it's for personal, if it's for retail, method to consume etc, but I don't distinguish between AF and photo when it's scissor time.
cheers, mitch

I tucked the big leaves so the sunlight can do it's magic on the little lower buds, though not without some fear of ripping them. I think i never smoked an autobud before. Should be interesting, since the resin production has gone smoother these day for the Lowryder. The NL has the bigger buds, will be harvested rather late..about 80 days i presume - true auto ?

I think I'll grow lowryders again next year and will apply your "gain experience from experimenting" strategy. I simply love to do those kinda things on these plants, they're so "humanesque" withstanding all that torture we give them :D

Mitch..thanks for the support!

Greetings Bro. I have some Lowryder #2 seeds for my next grow. Do you have a thread with your experience with these ladies? peace...bongwater :tiphat:

First off I want to say a big "Thanks" to Mitch for helping as much as he can but with his projects and such doesn't seem to be posting much so even though he mentioned months ago that he wasn't going to be around much to help and another would be a better Mentor for the AF area. Well I was hoping he would be round more but he is not.

So I formally requested he be removed from that spot so we can find another person that has more time to help. ( Not saying that Mitch would not help you if you still PM'd him he is a great guy.)

:tiphat:

With all that said we need another active member that has the knowledge and constitution to be a Mentor which is the prerequisite to being a Moderator. I don't care so much about what pictures have been posted of the persons grow but just the general hopefulness that a Mentor is going to be needing to deal with the same questions and problems over and over. Someone that is going to have to stay current with the threads in the AF area.

So if you got what it takes or knows if you think so-n-so does lemme know.

Sorry for the delay of responding, only a few months passed...

The LR grow is from start->finish in my albums.

By the way, as this is a subforum in wich the primary chatting about is growing auto weed...here are my 2 Ak GOM, first flowering week. One has 80cm, the other 65. (1 inch = 2,5 cm)

Happy growing to us all!

Yeh sorry guys, for not being around, I accepted the role and then came to spain shortly after to have no fixed internet for 7 months. I do always check this forum daily but I'm spinning a lot of plates already as it is.

I've been setting up a facility out here and building and growing and making seed simultaneously, so my forum time has suffered.

Thanks to SAH for thinking of me originally, And I'm sure there's someone more than qualified around here to dole out advice as and when.

O

OKD

Well I hope we get a wonderful AF mentor! I have just dipped my toes in the AF sea, and am wondering about LSTing this AF I have going. Doesn't sound like a good idea to top it, huh? Tie the top to a stake and gradually pull the top down? It's about 5 nodes, maybe 6 inches high, growing like a weed!

It's been in the ground about 3 weeks, and I believe it's a Seedsman Auto-Diesel x Auto-Blueberry.
Any suggestions welcome!

I have a question regarding letting the trichomes mature, since autos lack in potency what do you guys prefer to let them go to?

30% amber, 10% amber etc.

Please leave constructive answers and why you let your autos go this and that far.

Hi Opi

Indoors, I chop mine the same as I would a a photoperiod plant. More clear/cloudy for a racier, quicker buzz, Mostly cloudy and a hint of amber for something in the middle, and mostly amber for anything I want to be my 'put ya to sleep' stash.

Outdoors, I try to harvest when they're showing a balanced mix of cloudy/amber, but weather becomes more of a factor so sometimes they're pulled earlier than planned because of impending rain/humidity, and sometimes they're pulled later if I need to let them dry back out after some damp weather.

In terms of potency, there's a lot being done with AFs these days. If ya don't feel the buzz of what ya have is strong enough or does it right for ya, take a look around at some of the options out there.

Thanks for the good reply mate, you really put my thoughts into words. I do take my weather into consideration when choptime comes around and hopefully there wont be that much rain late in August, Iam running Auto AK47s, Blueberrys & Northern Lights from Norden Seeds.

Was just wondering if anyone usually let Autos specifically go longer into flower to kinda make up for some lost potency in terms of Ruderalis traits.

Guess there really is no way rather then to find a good balance, thanks again for the reply FT, think i grasped what my mind was wandering about. :tiphat:

So, exactly how much "ruderalis" do you think is actually present in today's autoflowering varieties? 2%? 4%? 8%???

I really don't see ANY "lost potency" in most (good and modern) autoflowers... haven't seen any "less potent" autos since, oh, 2006. Even such "old" autos such as masterlow have tested at a "lost potency" of only 18%...

Actually, letting them go longer allows for a more "couchlock" stone, over a more "cerebral" stone from 8 week harvested flowers.

Those "ruderalis traits" are at best manufactured by people who don't "do" autos... lay them to rest, today. One thing is clear... and that is that it's certainly NOT clear that "ruderalis" was even used in the development of autos.

Hey Mr.Mike, I'm not in here for a debate, discussion or even a argument with you. Sorry, have fun and be nice.

Peace, Opi

Hi I have a question for SaH since I am hoping you would be best able to tell me the answer.

I was thinking about getting a 250 watt HPS and I got some BS#2 beans coming and I already have a 135 watt blackstar UV.

I was planning on doing the bs2 in those 3 litre dollar store soda bottles and maybe cutting one into a tube and adding it to one so as to get deeper pots.

Anyways in your experience how many bs2 do you think I could squeeze under those 2 lights with a little lst?

The pictures MDANZIG put up show they can get quite large so I was thinking 2-4 max but with the size pots I am gonna use maybe I can go 4-6 ish?

Thx for your time

I am sure many people here can help.....

But I would say go for the 4-6ish its better to have an extra then have space go unused.

Goodluck and keep us in the loop on how you do.

hey guys..
can anyone tell me how i can know if I have enough light? considering the plant isn't stretching.. and she is healthy..
What I mean is- that i see everyone growing with so much light and so on... but i'm with an Jack Herer autoflower week 4, running a 62w 6500k cfl (wich i know is very little) 18/6.. and except for some soil problems all is well... so how can that be?
I'm really asking because I don't understand how it works...

jtb: Glad you're checking out the forums.
As a baseline, you want to run around 50w per square foot if canopy. Some people run less, some run more. I'm guessing your JH autoflower hasn't quite filled out yet, so you should be fine. Plenty of people have grown nice plants with CFLs. The key, at least as far as the light, is keeping it as close to the plant as you can without burning or stressing the plant (important to have the right airflow to go along with this) in order to maximize lumens to the plant.

As your canopy get more dense, You may want to place a few bulb around the sides of the plant to increase penetration and bud density.

Tell us about your setup, maybe we can help you out.
