Auto-Flower Strains As Good as Regular Flower Strains ?

Thanks to seed-bank freebies, I have some decent Auto's to play with, probably.

"Dinafem Fruit Automatic Fem" - that's one of the ones I got. The Dinafem website description sounds OK. "Plant in May, harvest in July" ... OK, that will take some getting used to.

These are the Auto freebies in my shopping cart now -

Sweet Seeds Sweet Trainwreck AUTO

Sweet Seeds AUTO Killer Kush

Sweet Seeds "SAD" (Sweet Afghan Delicious)

"Sweet Afghan Delicious Fast Version is feminized and non-autoflowering version with an ultra fast flowering. Sweet Afgani Delicious F1 was obtained by crossing the SAD auto with a male Black Domina elite clone selected in 1998. The cross between the autoflowering genetic and the non-autoflowering clone produces non-autoflowering F1 Hybrids and shortens flowering time by one week (flowers in 6-7 weeks).

Genetics: S.A.D. x Black Domina
Variety: Mostly Indica
Sex: Feminised
Flowering Type: Photoperiod

... so, a new type. Not auto-flowering, just "Fast".

I accept the overall limit of these plants - you can't grow them out big in veg, because they start flowering early.

But are they any good ?

Have you had any auto-flower bud that made you forget any concern you may have had about Ruderalis strains being less potent
?

Anyway, I am questioning my avoidance of Ruderalis-influenced Auto strains.

Aside from lower yield, potency ranks up there with their photoperiod sisters!! Of course, biased, but can't beat autos reaping 4-6 harvests in a grow season (outdoors) compared to waiting until Sept/Oct for harvest.

Have I tried a ruderalis auto strains that disappointed? Yes. Same goes for photoperiod strains. Investigate genetics, breeder, etc.

Anymore, genetics are stable in autos, and perform well in most areas. Some autos with only one big cola may be more susceptible to bud rot in humid/rainy areas (outdoors) vs. autos with numerous branches where you can LST.

The freebies you have are stellar! Give them a try! Out of the ones you mentioned, SAD, to us, was a little lack luster...but grew that 4-5+ yrs. ago. Hopefully genetics are pumped a bit more now.

Good luck!

I have a bag of seeds named "On Deck" ... what gets planted next ...

I picked out these 2, in addition to the Fruit Automatic -

"Auto Seeds Berry Ryder" (Blueberry x their Auto father, though I guess you would need more than a one-time cross to get the auto characteristics dependably).

Also, Dinafem "Blue Kush Auto".

Crossing the Berry Ryder with a photoperiod, the SAD? Yes, several generations to get stable auto. We do 5-6 generations. If auto x auto....it's already set up = auto.

"Fast version"....sounds more like a semi-auto....check with Sweet Seeds (Tommy G or Jaypp here on IC) for particulars.

in my experience with autos, has been nothing but disappointments. the only strain that did decent was a semi-auto by the name of Guerilla Gold #2.
I had one Iranian auto do "decent" but wasnt great. most of the time u end up with a single little bud on a stick that dries to a popcorn.
If you want to grow decent pot, but cant grow them big outside (but can still grow outside), i would suggest either start plants late so they dont get too big, Tie them down, or do a Light Dep. they really are a waste in my opinion.

My AF experience is mixed, some are really good while some are worthless.
So far the best for me were LaBuenaHierba AFs and semi AFs, Flash seeds superautos and some other AFs made by few amateur breeders from the north.
While the so much loved Dutch Passion and Sweet Seeds AFs were appaling and most sort of ryders I try they feel all the same dull stone.

Rubber Chicken

Mephisto has autos that can grow very big and very good quality.

Also, Sour60 from mdanzig and Pink Salad from SGS are good quality.

I've grown autos 3 times. Samsara Ultraviolet was strong with a good head high if lacking in the taste dept. Buddha's Syrup was tasty but had a dull high. Black Creek Gardens' Spyder was good if not too memorable.

The only tricky thing about autos is that they need good rich soil & quality care right from the start to get decent yields. Don't start seeds in tiny pots. Nothing smaller than beer cups. Don't let them get taller than the cup before moving up to larger pots, 3 gals in my case. There's no way to correct for mistakes early on like using longer veg time because they grow & flower on their own short schedule. The little darlings really charge for the finish line.

They're a good choice for a first grow because they provide stash in a flash. They're also a good choice for growers who don't have a lot of space or good light control. They'll do well in the corner of a room where a grower can just leave the light on start to finish.

Yes and no. I started making my own. My latest... 501st hazedog is a yielder (easy 3oz) with the OG lemon /burning rubber funk with a haze high that leaves me devastated. This one snapped the top off and was flopping all over. Sticky as fuck. The top isn't in the pics, but it's as big as 2 fists. Each lower bud is fist sized, and the inner lower buds are fully formed, not larf.

This was under 12/12. I like autos when life is hectic because you aren't restricted to dealing with things on a schedule...

Very nice. :)

It was only a matter of time until they improved.

Thanks brother. The shitty part is that you can't clone them. :(
My gf apologizes every morning after hitting this stuff. She knows she did some crazy shit, but can't remember. Thank God for phone pics/video to remind her. Lol

What would you say the average pull is for those plants, Born Loser?

Nice looking gal too, btw.

This mutt gives from 2-4 Oz. I have a huge cheese strain that is pretty killer too. Straight up nose burning eye watering funk... Going to chop some tomorrow, I'll post some pics. Hard as rocks nugs, frosty as the Biker Kush crosses next to it. Should be a killer yield and good smoke.
Thanks brother.

Excellent info, thank you . Just goes to show they don't need constant light , I grew my last autos under 18/6, but I was wondering about dropping the light hours a little as 18 h seems excessive. Would you say that it affects yield a lot?
