I had a late start also, we had problems with water. I.e none. But that is just an excuse also, I could have been more onto it and fetched a bucket. But these things happen. If all goes well I'll have plenty anyway, so nothing to complain about really. Bring it on! Got my mesh up and everything transplanting. I need to buy some knee pads. Pretty glad that job is over.

Does anybody here start with clones outside, or do you all go from seed? Everytime I try clones they just go flower on me, but in the states they do it a bit.

Day length .
As it relates to latitude . High 30 deg latitudes and greater get long days in summer .

Closer you get to the equator the shorter the summer days .
You need 14 or more hours light to keep the clones growing .

Transitioning from the 24 hours light for cloning to 14/ 15 hours indoors takes some organisation .
But will lessen the chances of the clones starting to flower immediately .

Hiya Pumpkin ... listen Mate ... it's not easy growing in this hot and dry. At least you don't live at Wytalibah ... they lost the lot and their houses too! I notice this season I 've got lots of side branches ... as if I 've pruned. And it took ages for the seedlings to get going ... Ooroo

(G'day Mr Bud. Looks like you survived.)

ive grown lots of cuttings outdoors here pumpkin ,
veged in the tent first ,

depends on the ratio of sativa to indica etc ,

as to how they do here , the yield etc

some sativa we can take cuts of without the use of a tent at the right time of year ,
despite the short days ....

its the old horses for courses as it often is with this game ...

Yeah, by the time I've got 14 hours of light outside it will be mid summer. So there is no real point using clones if it means putting them out that late. When I fix my solar, I'm thinking of running a 100 watt led for seed making or cloning.

So it I am running sativas, is it possible to keep them in veg on a 12.5/11.5 on/off light cycle? And indicas there is no way? Is that what I'm to understand?

Or should I just say fuck it and stick with seeds? Seeds seem easier, but it's just everytime is a risk with males and herms etc. I guess the nice thing about seeds is the variance as well, some might finish later, or be more mould resistant etc, so even if you lose some, some others might be okay. With clones you might wipe your whole crop.

Don't know, just an idea that I have never had much luck with. Normally I just end up with a pile of reveg :)

Yeah rod58, and thanks, basically the same as last year with some minor changes.

I pulled the guts out of those octabubbler irrigation things and just put individual pressure compensating drippers on the end. My supporting mesh moved down because my plants will be smaller. Makes it very difficult to get in though (i've bought skateboarding knee pads fron kmart). The weed mat and rock at the bottom of the pots is new also. There are a lot of termites around, and i want to discourage them munching on my roots or medium

Also hopefully no males this year! But plants will be much smaller because of my late start.

Just growing two strains this year, green crack and blue dream from HSO. Green crack is said to finish early. End of March possibly, so hoping that helps me avoid the worst of the weather.

Otherwise basically the same. I was going to mix my own nutrients this year to save money, but did not get around to it. Maybe next year.

My main regret in my setup is not being able to move around the plants better, but it is a pain in the arse to change now, would basically have ro pull everything up and start again.

hard to give an answer pumpkin ,
though i have veged sativas here with no lights,
and a mate currently has 150 of them just under shade cloth

but they are sativa dominant varieties

we would be getting 12.5 hours roughly now ,
the longest day is only 13 hours ,

even the 60/40 sativa/indica hybrids reveg here into some reasonable sized plants before flowering again ,
but its a combo of the hours and the rain and humidity that comes with it i d reckon ..

Hey Wal ... do those DF's in my albums still look like yours did? I think mine are inbreeding a bit and losing their duckfootedness ... comment ... ?

those are from seed a friend made teddy ,
possibly my stuff , but crossed to other strains then selected to find webbed plants ,

and as they matured the leaf did look more normal and less webbed ,

the original did also , but not to the same extent ,
coming into flower even the original started to look like typical cannabis ,
i wouldnt worry about it too much ...

ill add 2 pictures so you can see one veging ,
and then the same in flower ..

Thanks. That gives me some idea i guess. If I give it a go, i just gota see what remains in veg at the least amount of hours i guess. Something to play with one day, when I have more power.

Good luck with the hot weather coming everyone!

I used to grow in the hot and dry, and to be honest I miss it. I didn't even know plants could get mould then. Could grow pretty much any strain provided you could give it some shade. I do not miss the flies and 47c days though. The grass is always greener on the other side :)

Rod58, I have had some great success with Sour D. It really is a great plant. Can take a little while to flower though. No idea where my original seeds came from, but they were pretty damn fine.

same here pumpkin , i'm moving to a cooler - wetter area and where i am i've never really experienced mould before but me thinks it will hammer me in the new place . also too the risk of someone finding my spot was almost nil as " who would be so crazy to grow in the desert ! " but ,. the prospect of rich soils and lotsa rain is very appealing right now .
very late start here , half our annual rainfall certainly puts the brakes on !

Yep, well I guess we just have to get our feet wet :)

I think when we get some strains that work well, and get a general feel for it, it'll be pretty easy. There is always going to be an adjustment period with any climate change.

Better late than never though!
