Sweet Onion Semi

Sweet Onion Semi

So last year I grew a couple of Sour Diesel cuts from my friend and out of what I harvested I found two seeds. I lost the first one and the second one I planted this spring. I can speculate as to what the pollen came from but I’m not 100% sure. The smell of the flowers is a sweet onion smell, like the Hawaiian Sweet Maui Onion chips!!

I have thus decided to name the strain Sweet Onion Semi :)

The Elvish velvet is starting to stack up! Nice sticky resin in abundance. The smell is very piney with some notes of sandalwood and frankincense. Looking a lot like her mother in growth but denser flowers with deeper aromas. :)

More and more floral perfume aromas from this plant everyday!!! Rose and jasmine are the top two aromas I’m picking up. The calyxs are spread out on the stem and the resin gland are mostly non stalked glandular trichomes in a ratio of 10:1 - non stalked to stalked. A mysterious and beautiful flower that I am honored to experience in the garden :)

Looking great, miasa. Nice color and terps, and it seems to have nice trich coverage and decent buds as well! Now all we need to know is the effect, is there any potency? Liltree described it as a buzz similar to an unworked landrace, that's a good starting point.

This morning I noticed a bunch of PM on the Australian. I pulled a few pieces early to smoke on but am leaving the rest of the plant to finish. I have one lower branch seeded with ABC pollen for a pure ABC bx. Once she finishes I will be getting a cannabinoid and terpene rest and will share the results here. Thanks for checking it out everyone!

So the strain is susceptible to PM, maybe a consideration to focus on when choosing what strain to cross it with. Your choice of landrace sativa should be good, Miasa.
Your photos are inspiring, my abcs are still early, and it is nice to see a plant further along for reference and guidance. Looking very cool, freak plant with color. Lots of potential or maybe a weak plant that is desperate for an outcross and has only leaf shape to offer.
Thank you for getting it analyzed, and as someone who doesn't have that option of ordering a test, I am grateful that you share it on this forum for the enlightenment to those who are into the strain and working with it.

Unfortunately so. Sad to see but I crave knowledge so it’s all good :) I have a few crosses planned but I feel this plant has a ton to offer more than just the leaf personally and I am going to work a this as a pure ABC line and simply select for a more mold resistant plant next year. I’m in love with the color, smell, growth structure, flower formation, honestly everything about this plant I love! *other Than her susceptibility to PM*
I am happy to share the test results, as I would like to know and I know that I’m not alone in that :)
I smoked an early early sample of the flowers and it might have been a one off but I really liked the effects very instant up and energy with a quick come down. I packed the bowl with more which is a good sign and I liked the second bowl too. I’m excited to give a more in depth smoke report once the recent stuff I pulled is dry and again once the plant is fully ripe and dryed

Starting to fill in and getting a beautiful reddish, burgundy coloring on the flowers. Smelling less pine like and more of a deeper Smokey wood scent, like sandal wood.

I can't wait to sample it myself and gauge its potency. Truly exciting to hear others’ experiences meanwhile. Looking forward to hearing about your next tasting. Maybe you shouldn't smoke the finished plant? I am wary of PM health issues if smoking it, aspergillosis and lung infections? Don't risk it for our sake, we'll just have to wait a bit longer before next smoke report is available elsewhere, and the early buds you harvested might be close enough to a fully ripened bud to give us an estimate of general effects of this strain.

Unfortunately I don’t feel the branches I cut are far enough along to get a true representation of the plant. I should be ok smoking a tiny bit of PM. I’m just going to sample a bowl or so from the fully ripe, as well as send the fully ripe plant to the lab. Thank you for your concern :) Aspergillus is usually invisible to the naked eye (also the most dangerous), and PM is the least worrisome mold to smoke (what a statement, haha!) California doesn’t even test specifically for Powdery Mildew, just the four aspergillus and botrytis (for molds). Plus I am honored to have the opportunity to share this info since I can’t really find much online or in person about this mythical marijuana

Side note: I normally would NOT smoke moldy herb but this.... this is for science!!

Where i live, it is constantly windy, dusty, dirty and my garden seems to attracts every bug and spore in the state.
So, while i would never recommend smoking/vaping flowers that are moldy or covered in pm, I gently wash all of my outdoor weed just to be sure.
First i place the freshly cut/trimmed buds in a container filled with cold water containing several generous squirts of dish soap. I weigh the buds down with large metal utensils and let them soak under water for about thirty minutes.
Then i add a generous amount of 3% hydrogen peroxide and let it soak for an hour. Then i gently swish and spin the buds which seems to remove a lot of crap adhering to the flowers.
Afterwards, i place the buds in another container filled with cold water and peroxide.
This is the first rinse. I let the buds sit under water for another thirty minutes. Again, i gently swish and spin the buds.
I usually rinse 3-4 times until i stop seeing debris. Also, every time i rinse, the amount of soap is drastically reduced.
Since peroxide will destroy molds, mildew, bacteria, etc, i feel very comfortable vaping my clean weed.
As an example, i found caterpillar damage on a flower the other day, so i chopped it.
After removing the damaged/moldy section, i washed it in dish soap and peroxide.
This is the bud soaking in the h2o2 rinse, the bud after the wash and the coffee filter containing the washed (not rinsed) debris.
You can also see more debris floating to the surface in the rinse cup.

Truly taking one for the team, you are, Miasa..
I understand your eagerness, as there is practically no smoke report on the web for this strain yet..
I know PM is not dangerous to eat, so maybe edibles is the way to go when the buds are ripe and cured..

Australis Smoke Report

Australis Smoke Report

Today I smoked a really good 2 sample bowls of the Australian and I got to say it’s stronger than I thought it would be!! Really heady- very creative and floaty head. Dreamy but not too spacey. Nice subtle effects on the body with some mild tension relief but no heaviness. For a landrace it’s really amazing. She is definitely stronger than the Balkh Afghani from this year :)

The taste was milder than the aroma (though the aroma is soft and not too loud). Slight fruity flower palate but still really fresh and too much “green” flavor. The aroma has developed into more of a grape smell with floral undertones. Funny that this plant looks and smells like grapes. The wonder of wine country right here :)

I’m really excited to smoke more once she is fully ripe

I think they look pretty, Miasa. Very Nice blue, almost black color, or is that just the photos? Clearly visible trics as well! Purple freak landrace with grape terps. Nice.
