A North Shore Doctor has been banned from medical practice after
admitting he often prescribed narcotics for a series of friends and relatives.

Dr. Andrew Katelaris also admitted supplying Cannabis to atleast a dozen
strangers who contacted him after seeing him appear on a TV program,
they were seeking pain relief.

Dr. Katelaris, 51, of Turramurra, was found guilty by a district court jury
last week for growing a Cannabis crop on his farm near Dungog and is
awaiting sentence.

The N.S.W. Medical Tribunal later announced that the North Shore Private
Hospital resident medical officer had been deregistered. The medico admitted
suplying Cannabis to various people for the control of their symptons,
many of them were ill or disabled.

The Tribunal found him guilty of professional misconduct and banned
Dr. Katelaris from medical practice for at least three years.

Bloody oath mate! I for one could really do with his help, as
it may help keep me stay out of wheel-chair in the next couple of years
and not need to go to hospital for morphine injections to kill the
extreme pain when I've got no grass.

Take care champ...

thats bad news for sure, definitely a rare ocassion these days to find a doc in Australia with that much balls. It seems the legalisation movement in this country is really having trouble getting off the ground, strange considering that weed is such a commonly used sustance in this country...
