A North Shore Doctor has been banned from medical practice after
admitting he often prescribed narcotics for a series of friends and relatives.
Dr. Andrew Katelaris also admitted supplying Cannabis to atleast a dozen
strangers who contacted him after seeing him appear on a TV program,
they were seeking pain relief.
Dr. Katelaris, 51, of Turramurra, was found guilty by a district court jury
last week for growing a Cannabis crop on his farm near Dungog and is
awaiting sentence.
The N.S.W. Medical Tribunal later announced that the North Shore Private
Hospital resident medical officer had been deregistered. The medico admitted
suplying Cannabis to various people for the control of their symptons,
many of them were ill or disabled.
The Tribunal found him guilty of professional misconduct and banned
Dr. Katelaris from medical practice for at least three years.
