AT Last!!! The KKid's first grow!

Well ladies and gents, I am an OG refugee, and had commented on and drooled over many a grow while I was there. I recently moved into my own place, and decided to join the growing world. Seeing how this is my new home, I wanted to see what y'all thought!

My strategy was Keep. It. Simple. Stupid, and as you can see I have one shop light fixture ( Wal-Mart-5.99) with a couple o' standard bulbs, one day spectrum, one cool white.

Genetics- Random Bagseed of some really good schwag. Now I know y'all are gonna call me crazy, but this was some stand-up schwag and im on a collegiate budget.

Medium- Wal Mart Continuous Feed Potting Soil and Perlite

Germed 8 seeds 2 days ago, just planted 4 beans into small plastic cups with holes for drainage. Plan on leavin em under that for a week until I can get an HPS set-up.

Here are some pics to let ya get a feel of what it looks like.
Comments? Suggestions?

Closet pic for size.

My *hopefully* beautiful girls.

Another closet pic.

Please send all awards for the photography to my mail box.

yeah I thought of that, but right now I don't have the right hardware. I saw another guy do a very similar grow with fluoros leaning over a plant and it seemed to work, so we shall see.

thanks btw

thats one tall ass plant deft!!!

Yeah I think once I get my HPS im gonna hang that normally and have the shop lights I already have + maybe another fixture for side lighting

I suggest you get a little fan for your plants. Also, get some energy saving CFL bulbs from the store.. I think a 23 watt one is 5 dollars or something really cheap. They're great because they'll screw into any lamp fixture you already have. Get the lights as close as you can to them once they sprout also.

Believe it or not.. Four 23 watt CFL bulbs got these plants this big and then this is the first day they were under the HPS.. Get some vegging nutes, some air flow, and some bulbs and you're set.

OK guys time for an update.

I went to Home DePOT and picked up the following-

(2) "Clamp" Light fixtures ($5.25. each)
(2) 75 Watt Compact Fluoros (~$5.00 each)
(1) Lasko Task Fan ($10.00 each)

Just plugged in the lights, and I think this will be much more productive than the 48" Shop Light, although I may throw it in there once they grow some for back-lighting.

Heres the new setup:

And here are the babies (day 4 since I planted the beans)-

And here's that sweet fan I got-

What do y'all think?

thanks man!!!

In that last plant pic, the tallest plant. Why is this one growing so much more vigorously than the other 3? Is that a good sign or what?

great start! The slow growth could be caused by all those factors. The important thing is that as your thread grows, so do your improvements. Keep "tweaking" your grows and you'll be well rewarded. I did a grow from flouros when i first started, and I even had two four footers in a "tee-pee" configuration, similar to the pic at your start. I gotta say, tho' that I also battled with more Hermies than i ever do with H.I.D.
Lighting.
In my opinion, the Wally-World soil might be slowing ya down a bit due to Nute-shock. You might consider transplanting into a better soil. look for one with no nutes in it, as young plants dont like a lot of Jazz in their viens at first. Go ahead and poke your fist into a bag and make sure it's not all bark/mulch. And with flouros, the closer you can get the lights to the plant without too much heat, the better. You'll notice a faster grow rate and less stretching, when you get some node sites.
I'm no expert and i learn more and more all the time. You will too.- Guaranteed if you stay here and absorb the great Karma of the growfamily here.
Peace

If they stretch you should build the soil up around the base. This will not only support them but make them healthier...
