And you are still reading your own meaning into all this. And still name calling.

Let me spell this out in language you can understand: I WAS NOT SERIOUS. Anyone with a brain should have caught on to that. But nooooo, not you. You had to take it personal, like I was directing that comment at YOU.

Grow a sense of humor. Jesus H Tap Dancing Christ on a Bicycle, this is the TOKERS DEN, where we all go to post stupid crap and have a laugh.

I'm done with you. We were having a fun little thread until you got butt hurt over something that wasn't directed at you and was only meant to be funny. Grow up, stop calling names and stop reading things into something that was never there to begin with.

Pull the stick out of your ass son, you'll feel better after.

If you truly were joking then it was NOT at all obvious. If you really were joking then I apologize.

Please quote your own posts and defend them.

There are many ways to prepare for a disaster. First, what are you preparing for? Some people prepare for flooding, some for earthquakes...nuclear war or even the zombie apocalypses.

At the minimum everyone should have a week of water and food on hand. This would cover most of the disasters that currently happen across the world. I also think people should be armed and prepared to defend themselves.

It is also a good idea to spend a few hundred bucks on long term supplies. This is a great resource for food and basic survival necessities.

I'm not defending anything beyond what I have already said. You're the one that read your own meaning into what I said.

You pulled some shitty accusations out of your ass. I never said I would kill anyone. I made a generic statement about taking some preppers shit. I never said I was going to take food from children, that was you reading whatever nonsense that crossed your brain into it. You're the one that dropped all civility, then accused me of of not being civil by saying I would take the food out of the mouths of innocents. Something I never said.

You got all shitty over something that wasn't directed at you, or anyone in the thread for that matter. I don't have to justify anything I said, especially to you after the way you talked to me.

Now be a man, admit you got your panties in a twist over nothing and get off my case. If you didn't "get it", that ain't my problem, but you really should check yourself. Getting all warped and talking shit to people over something you didn't understand makes you look stupid. And unstable.

We're done here. I've been tolerant of your smack talk and as polite as could be expected. But if you want to keep talking shit, you'll be talking to yourself.

Have a nice day.

A couple people have mentioned some type of bio attack or a population level disease. I don't think that's too far-fetched considering the things we see in Africa and South America every day, then we look at what's happening in American hospitals with the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria and viruses.

Another good addition to the armory would be a full face respirator... they're actually pretty cheap considering the value you get, this one here is $135 on Amazon. The cheaper ones without the lenses are only $30 I believe.

A little pricy on that link. 4 people one year supply = $ 6897.00
Same amount HERE for $ 3299.00

Wow that's kind of a steal... I think me and my old lady alone spend like $5k a year on groceries last time I checked.

I think I saw on a show once that if your in a pinch and can only get a few items that rice, vegetable oil, and canned meat was your best bet, along with vitamins since your not eating fresh veggies.

Stockpiling dry goods, water and all that are good. But supplies don't last forever. Sure, a generator and a cache of food will be fine for the short term, but gas won't last forever (it does go bad so even 10,000 gallons is good for only so long). You need some skills that can take you beyond the limits of your stocks.

Like fire for cooking, light and warmth. Can you make fire without matches? There are easy ways (a magnifying glass for example), and harder ways (flint and steel), and hard ways (a fire bow). Learn how to make fire without your trusty Bic.

Local wild edibles. Depending on where you are, there are a lot of things you can eat. A lot of it is seasonal, so you need to be aware of what is available and when. Unless you have a good knowledge of mushrooms, beware of them. The right ones are delicious. The wrong ones are at best a few days of severe illness, at worst an agonizing death.

Hunting. Being able to put meat on the table is great. You don't even have to have a gun. Snares and traps can keep you in small game like rabbits, squirrel, possum, even rat. Rattlesnake is good eating by the way.

Making potable water. The simple way is to boil it. But what if you can't even find a muddy ditch? You can make a solar still with a hole in the ground and a garbage bag. And you can use the same method with sea water.

None of these skills are that hard to learn. But these aren't skills you want to to learn after the fact, you will need them right away. Learn them now, while life is good, and if life gets tough you're already ahead of the game.

I think dried beans most importantly. Cheap protein. And just for the record, you can't store brown rice long term. The oils in it will go rancid. A few alternatives to brown rice that store well are wheat berries, millet, oats, barley, grits, pasta and instant potatoes. If your unsure of something, google it.

Freeze dried food is great, but expensive. I keep some on hand but mostly dried goods like a listed. I usually pick stuff up when I see a deal at the grocery store.

A couple good websites I like are

beprepared.com
honeyville.com
thereadystore.com

Welder Dan makes great points. Knowledge is key. I've done lots of reading on wild edibles but don't think I will be getting into mushroom hunting anytime soon. Too risky unless you have an expert teaching you.

Wild game is a great resource but there's something called "rabbit starvation" or "protein poisoning". It's basically a form of malnutrition caused from lack or fat. Wild game is extremely lean. You'd be best to supplement it with wild fish if you can. Anyone know of any wild animals with high fat content? Duck and geese maybe?

The best I've found is Keystone meat. The only ingredients are beef and sea salt. Walmart carries it.

  • All natural Keystone beef
  • Fully cooked
  • No water added
  • Contains no artificial ingredients
  • Only minimally processed

Brother Bear- Your health would go to shit if you ate freeze dried food everyday lol. A lot of it has shocking sodium and cholesterol levels.

EDIT: Just checkout out some reviews for Werling and Son's. Two thumbs up!

Two points to consider:

Those respirators are useless if in a chemical attack, you also need the accompaying shots and be able to dose yourself if need be with the mask on...I gave mine away to a panicked neighbor back in 2014, I really don't give a flying f#*k if we get chemically attacked or nuked to be completely honest, won't have work next day lol...

2nd point. Today you already have people who take your shit just because they can, and that's even when they can find food at the store, if disaster comes, you better be ready for how these sort of people will multiply. It would not be a pretty sight.

Once I dreamed huge alien ships were bombing earth, I took a jar of honey from the kitchen and we went outside into these caves, there we realized no way we'll survive this and if we did, for what? Woke up feeling liberated.

Prepping aside, I am giving serious thought to buying this just for regular day to day eating.

My mother saves a lot of money by buying in bulk.

She watches the sales and jumps on them when she can.

In the long run it's a great way to stock up on everything.
