i've paid good money for seeds that were a disappointment and been shocked by how good the freebees that came with them did

IME the price of the seeds means nothing

seed choice is primarily about personal taste. choosing the right seeds all boils down to choosing the right breeder. I asked myself the same question and it led me to start a thread asking what it takes to be a good breeder.

this overpricing of seeds has always been an issue, problem is no one is really holding these cats to any manner of standard because its a free/unregulated market so everyone is just charging what they want and yelling "IM THE BEST" with no real proof of it BUT that still doesn't speak to the issue of why are they charging so much because in essence no matter who's seeds you buy its always a crap shoot. one thing that kills me is when a breeders seed stock goes bad and after all this time they still don't get it.

breeders aren't selling promises they are selling possibilities and chances but I don't think anyone told the breeders that fact, so no matter how much breeders grandstand their selling points, their selling points are still reflective of a black market and they know it. I don't want to pay for a phenotype I want to pay for a strain and if you cant promote your wares as stable then that breeder isn't worth shit. there are a multitude of threads with facts supporting that very argument

med-man; tom hill and chimera are the only ones I am going to buy seeds from, from here on out. I had to recently revamp my entire grow area and I don't have time to dick around with "joe pollen chucker" or "team hermie"

you put 2 plants together, get 200+ (if not triple more) of seeds and you wanna charge me $60 - $200 for 10 or 15 (and in some cases just 5) ??? you know what? FUCK YOU and I hope all you shit goes bad. and here it is I thought the banks/governments were the thieves to watch

EDIT 9/18: just read a thread where someone had their seeds taken by customs, didn't think of that as a factor at the time but yeah, so add that to the list of bullshit that has to be dealt with and what are the breeders/seed companies gonna do about that huh?

Anyone who EVER charges more than $100 for a ten pack is a thief. This isn't subject to debate. Thing is, at that expensive price, I'd better get 10 identical plants.

If the person selling the seeds feels it is worth it and can get it, and the customer pays it, it is worth it to them. I have heard good and bad about DJ Short, no good news from Soma lately it seems... there are the ones I know nothing about like True Canna Genetics. Gage green has some expensive stains, don't know much but what little I heard was good. I don't hear any bad about Mosca as far as I can see but they are pricey. Hortilab and grindhouse had pricey strains but don't see them there now. OG Raskal is high and don't know a thing about them. AAA Reservoir had very high prices and very mixed reviews from great to anything but.

On the other hand, Mandala, Nirvana, Cannacopia, IC server fund, Hybrids from Hell, Fractal, HOL, MNS, and maybe a few others have mostly good reviews of reasonably priced strains. Then there are plenty in the middle, 60's to 90's range like Chimera, BOG (mixed but mostly good), connoseur (mostly positive), cannabiogen and ace get good reviews, others not sure.
In the end, it is what matters to you.

Well, it might be true that the price per seed has little to do with the potential quality. However, the money/time spent on stabilizing a Hybrid IBL often has everything to do with the strain's consistency when reduced to seed form.

Growing styles also has a lot to say about perceived seed value as well. If you are the kind of guy who buys a pack of ten seeds, grows em all at once, takes systematic cuts in veg to capture the potential Mother -- and then flowers the first ten to identify the keeper? Then you are going to get a LOT more for your money when buying cheap(er) regular seeds from the bay.

Contrast the value in use of those same pack of ten regular seeds to somebody who grows a few plants here and there from seed, doesn't cut, rarely clones, and relies instead upon consistency of their commercial feminized seed from seed to harvest as one-offs in order to make their grows work. For that grower, a pack of 10 regular seeds is almost worthless to their growing style.

Rather strong opinion, not necessarily cognizant of all the possibilities. Not everybody grows to sell, and not everybody wants ultra potent weed for every occasion, either. Some of us want to be free of the commercial aspects of it all entirely. Some stable lines have been bred from seed for generations, so a single seed crop will provide years of relatively consistent crops of sinsemilla. That's not true of many modern F1 or even BX'd hybrids, particularly those derived from exceptional clone mothers. Those genetics never were truly stabilized.

Nor does it matter if a grower starts from a 10 pack of reg seeds if they want to grow out 4-6 females. Veg, flip, select & keep on growing. Fems are usually twice the price of regs, anyway, and are specifically designed to keep home growers hooked on the seed racket. So are F1 hybrids, for that matter.

Having said that, everything I've grown so far after coming back to growing this year has been autoflowers, fems & hybrids. I'm exploring, and the single seed fem freebies offered help me do that.

OTOH, I'm planning my escape from buying seeds by buying some true breeding varieties, too, once I experience the amazing variety of modern cannabis a little more.

Their are just so many strains to choose from and so many different names. Also, wondering if youre even gonna get what you order sucks. regardless of which strain, I think they will all affect any individual differently for a variety of reasons. So knowing really what youre getting helps thevtrial andverror stage ofbfinding the right med. I realize we are at the very beginning of the world finally discovering the possibilities of marijuana but I hope some kind of better structure and standardization evolves. That will help in so many ways, including legalization. We should remember our roots (pun intended) but getting away from the drug culture stigma that is attached forever to marijuana like these stupid ass strain names like thunderfuck will certainly help our legal battle. I may have eaten too much, I'm babbling...
