Very Nice dude. Aquaponics is something I have always been interested in. I know there is a fishy garden in my future somewhere.

I have a small 40 gallon ready made kit from EnviroGro that the wife got me as a gift that is waiting to be set up. Figured I would get the basics down before trying to build my own.

My dream is to have a rather larger setup where I can grow and supply fresh produce for my family. Not comfortable buying and eating shit I know not from where it came or how it was grown.

I hear you can use fish in the system such as Tilapia and others that you can then eat if you want or need to?

go for it dude! Aquaponics has a bit of a learning curve at first, but then its an amazingly stable and simple system once you've ironed out the kinks and got everything cycling and recirculating properly. I've had my bluegill for 3 years now. One is big enough to eat, but I just like them as pets who make fertilizer at this point. I bought bluegill because they are hardy down to colder water temps, whereas tilapia prefer 70 degree or higher water.
Someday I will make a bigger system, I was thinking that this would get my feet wet (haha) for a bigger, homestead feeding system. I have a partially-built passive solar building to house it too, but I'm running two businesses and a grow right now and I don't know where I would find the time. My goal is to get out of one of the businesses by the end of this year and then maybe I can finish some half-completed projects.
Have you seen the family in new mexico who converted their pool to aquaponics?

Thanks for the link dude!

This right here:

The Garden Pool system uses more than 98% less water than conventional farming methods, has next-to zero external inputs, uses no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, and raises very nutritious food!

This is the concept that initially got me interested ( LESS WATER ) as well as no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. With more and more water being used as our supply diminishes it only makes sense to try and use a system that limits the amount of water used.

98% LESS WATER. That is most impressive!

I am a firm believer that you can and will manifest the things in life you want or desire. The aquaponic system/setup in my future is almost like a Christmas present waiting to be opened. I am really looking forward to the adventure.
