Apple Smell or Taste Strains?

In 2016 I grew some Frisian Duck by Dp and found a pheno with a strong green, sour apple taste and smell.
Maybe I'll buy another pack

EDIT: In case anyone felt like hunting the aforementioned pheno, just look for a purple pheno whose leaves have a spicy tea smell in veg and whose flowers have a light dried mango aroma while flowering.

I think anything that develops certain terpenes can get you where you want.

I'm searching for a banana pheno and i'm looking also through Mango/Grapefruit/Papaya/Pineapple sativas and hybrids, because one change in the combination (quantity) of the various terpenes can make something unique or that resembles that smell/taste.

It all reduces to human's nose and mouth, you can easily trick our senses.

If an apple gets its flavor from sugars alcohols and acids, then why would an apple strain get its flavor from terpenes? These are both consumable plants. Cannabis is not a perfume product. I don't think I've been tricked. I think people who buy fake terpene infused oregano from the 99 cent store have been tricked into this terpene nonsense.

Cottonmouth from thick clouds is a real thing. I know all the "terpene" purp I saw out west smelled like burnt porkrind oil because of the concentration of specific terps sprayed on the shit. And it made you vomit. Kinda the opposite of cottonmouth. Just bought some lemongrass cleaner from Walmart that smells the same, like burnt pork skins behind the cheapo nasty lemon. And theyd both taste the same I imagine. Like terpenes.. Not like fruit, but like plastic chemical molecules. An apple strain would be high in acids. Just as dependent on how it's grown as genetics.

No one is growing for flavor, they are growing for generic abundant scrap industry terpenes that you could simply spray on random shit. Mind boggling.

So- two points to dissect here :tiphat:

One- I don't think he was insinuating that the buds should be sprayed or prepared with any additional terpenes. It would kinda take the piss out of breeding entirely, which is what I think they really meant: breeding for flavor and scent characteristics, rolling through generations until a banana pheno presents itself. Busto- correct if I'm wrong?

Two- The alcohols are only one part of the process in maturation and total volatile compounds that contribute to taste and smell. The alcohols (which are undeniably there and can evoke tastes of wine, fuel, or even banana) turn primarily into esters which drive carbohydrate metabolism. They take the IPP, MEP and MVA pathways (which cannabis also utilizes to certain degrees in prenylation) which yield terpenes in apples. This is also part of the flavor in addition to aroma; or rather, terpenes are also tasted and not just smelled. That awesome apple smell and taste are typified by beta-farnesene and to a much lesser extent (but because we're all familiar) a hint of terpinol.

"An apple strain would be high in acids."

Do you mean malic acid or...? That would make sense. Leaves of cannabis contain more malic acid than citric or fumaric acid combined. Malic acid is responsible for the tart or sour taste in apples and would support what you say about how the flower is grown. You just can't ever hinder your citric acid cycle and more malic acid will build up since cannabis doesn't really utilize it in any other way except to keep the cycle going. Terpenoid content is unavoidable and they would have to complement each other to keep that great taste in tact.

Definitely going to try and find/grab a pack of that apple x18

I purchased pure malic acid, tartaric acid and citric acid from a home brewing place.
Malic acid is the acid from apples and it's really sour like sour candies you can buy.

It will pucker your mouth in seconds. I know I tried it.

And good luck finding Glass Apple, Apple Kush, and Sour Apple in seed form

Found a few, I think, although I can't vouch for the company, have never ordered from them, and have no connection to them. With those caveats:

I have some green poison from sweet seeds outdoors uk , the terps have an apple smell to them for sure. Really fruity apple skunk fragrance from a sugar leaf rub today. Im starting to prefer my outdoor bud to my indoor hps grown bud ! the terpine profile and high seems pronounced and well balanced outdoors.
