just trying to stop paying for about 600 channels I don't use.. wondering what you guys are starting to see happen..

apple tv.. roku.. amazon tv.. I mean shit there is options to PAY FOR WHAT YOU WATCH ONLY type shit..

and if you are using one of these units.. are they as good as they seem.. can you get the local news.. and everything like that..

what about jailbroken systems.? anyone use them? is it true its all free and they cant charge you later for it.. remember the little black box for PPV back in the day.. if you hooked it up to your modem telephone cord u got hit with a fat bill .. but if not u didn't..

so whats the deal with these little internet tv boxes worth it or not?

Cable will go the way of newspapers here once hbo drops their ala carte subscription package not right away but it's coming....I never liked paying $150 for a bunch of channels I don't watch. Netflix, hulu, roku, and hbo go or whatever they'll call it is all I need As is there are a zillion websites to stream cable /local tv and ppvs for free.

the only reason I ask.. is Im moving into a new place trying to save money 1.. and 2.. I hate wasting time watching tv.. especially since u spend 99% of your time flipping threw channels or searching on demand.. and there is never anything good on tv.

so I figure.. maybe I grab a jailbroken apple tv 2.. or an roku or amazon tv..

anyone using a jailbroken system getting free shit.. can they eventually charge u or not? is my question.. I don't wana be watching all these movies and ppv events and then get charged somehow.

Back in about 2008 there was a website 'watch-tv-movies.com' that had LOTS of movies. I suppose they were pirated.

I watched 'V for Vendetta' on it, then it was shut down.

I don't have cable, just Netflix & medium speed wireless.

I can watch webcasts, e.g. surfing.

But a lot of shows, e.g. the SuperBowl, are just not webcast, yet.

This really is what net neutrality is all about. Without neutrality the large cable and large communication companies would be legally able to filter your internet viewing so you only can see only what they want you to, not just what is available on the internet. The entertainment industry in the US is mostly against net neutrality, so they can control the transmission on the internet their copyrighted materials (movies, books, music) that are sent originating from other countries that have no such copyrighted laws, from there to here. They want to be able to stop that. They spend millions to thwart that now. Be so much easier (cheaper) for them if net neutrality wasn't law. Big communication is in favor so that they can control what you see and only transmit that programming that is in their company's favor.

Obama has said he is in favor of net neutrality. But that is just in the theory of freedom and liberty and what he knows we all want to hear. I think he lied. The US capitalist economy thrives on you not knowing all the alternatives. Competition is NOT equal in the US anymore. Lieing, cheating, stealing, and complete lack of ethics and honesty have become part of the US business and just to compete companies have to be that way now. But that unethical garbage is NOT needed in a democratic capitalist economy and in fact works against this economy functioning the way it should. That also kinda fits into to that conspirasist theory that our country has been hijacked by a few rich and powerful entities though when he says that but is in reality against it. Sure seems like that. Look at Wally World. But I digress, little off topic.

I heard it suggested that this whole N Korean hacking into Sony computers scandal was actually orchestrated and provided tools and strategies by those elements in the US government that want us to think, "See? You need the governments intervention in controlling the internet, so things like this can't happen". Sound like something the NSA would do to you?

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I use Roku for on demand stuff. I also have a roof antenna that gets 57 digital channels off the air, free and higher quality HD than cable, satellite of Fios. There's no incentive to promote over the air TV but it is there. Digital means that most of the local channels are now broadcasting 2-3 different channels.

smart TV hooked up to my computer to watch movies and tv shows that I don't get on Netflix. plus I spend all my time learning about growing, who needs TV? lol barely watched it in I don't know how long. learn so much more once you break the habit. it took me a good couple months to get used to no TV but having the extra cash to spend elsewhere really helped me get over it. like a 50" LED over it. :2cents:

Since there's no data compression off air is the preferred transmission for the HD signal. Once you make the initial investment for the antenna there's no additional cost. I have an HD antenna installed in the attic and get around 60 channels.
