I tried this thread recently, different title with no responses. I was told a Sunmaster MH will do the trick but there's some flicker. Is anyone using an MH in these ballasts???

I just wrote Lumatex asking if any of the 600w MH conversion bulbs will be compatable w/ my purple 600w. No answer yet.
I asked about these bulbs:
*Sunmaster Halide Cool Deluxe, 600W
*SolarMax Metal Halide 600 watt veg conversion lamp
*Ushio 600W Supe Halide Conversion Bulb

Awesome...BGHydro said the Sunmaster was the 'recommended' bulb but I don't like how it's performing. I got a friend with a magnetic ballast I'll make a trade with for the Sunmaster. Never heard of the Ushio. I've heard the Solarmax 600 HPS don't work well in electronic ballasts but not sure if that was in a Lumatek.

I use a 600MH in my blue lumatek. The bulb is just a generic from MDHydro. Was cheap and works fine. I have not noticed any flicker, except during startup. My 400MH mag ballast does the same, so I don't think there's any concern.
The light is a real nice blue tone and my plants seem to like it.

Thx Shitake...there's at least 1 person out there using an MH in a Lumatek that seems to work. The Sunmaster is a no go for sure.

Yeah, I just checked MDHydro. Seems like they're sold out of the generic 600MH. I think it was only around $39. I think it's chinese, so I might be getting lead-poisoning or something. I agree, $63 for a sunmaster is a lil steep.

I'm using the generic mdhydro MH. Works great, plants like it! I'll let you know about the cancer in 20 years...

Why are you guys using a MH conversion bulb instead of your HPS.
I have a 600 watt HPS magnetic ballast and am considering using a MH conversion bulb for the first half of flowering.
Is this what you are doing? Am I being stupid or is this something that's cool to do?

Lumatek told me the two bulbs they recommend most are:
HPS- Eye Hortilux
MH- Solarmax Veg Conversion /
This is for the 600w version.

Yes.
Thanx...I'm gonna try the Solarmax. As for the HPS thing I was told the GE Lucolux was best, this was about a year and a half ago, and have been using them ever since with stellar results and they are about half the price of the Hortilux. I really need to try the Hortilux though.
