Anyone else think the REP system is weak here?

I agree. I hand out rep all the time. And If I feel the need to hand out neg rep, which is pretty rare, I don't hide behind the not helpful button. If I give neg rep, I use the balance beam and there will be no question who gave it.

That's great if it works for you.. But they seemed to have removed it for some of us so the only option we have is to use the not helpful button...:tiphat:

The use of the scales depends on whether the person has them turned on or not I think.
Also, some people don't have the scales fully active, so when you click to + them, it goes straight through the same as a helpful, and you don't get to leave a message. My rep messages are on, but some people have it turned off.

If using the anon neg button is the only option, post in the thread and say why.

I would turn my rep off, but I have received so many funny pics or things that people didn't want to say in the forum, over the rep system, that it would be a shame to not have it.

Is it new that you cant see who Positivly ore neg reps you ?

From what i remember you could see who gave you rep.

I got all these message's but dont know from who.

I think new accounts need to have at least 50 posts before one can see whom sent you positive rep.
AFAIK, neg rep doesn't appear on one's account at all, even after the 50th post.

I understand what Wayne was trying to say.
Another forum (different subject matter) I once visited implemented something of the sort into their version of the "tokers den".
You couldn't gain rep points there like you could else where in the site. (where quality contributions mattered)
Usual vbulletin coding.

I dont pay it any attention to be honest. I look at join date. Think I look at post count. Then I look at rep bar.
If you joined last year (actual new member, not a new alias like "purple frostbyte") and have more posts then me ??? & similar rep points? I conclude you either have one hell of a grow thread/log/journal somewhere and perhaps you have invalubale information to share? IF one can not find said posting I myself just disregard said members membership completely. PErhaps this person has no life? Perhaps this person is a minor? Perhaps this person is LEO. Perhaps this person just "feels cool" hanging on canna forums where he has become popular?

Glad I never became mod. There is some minor things I would have been more apt to moderate to keep the forums closer to said objective. (Not saying the team here doesn't do that or isn't good at what they do. Well there were a few but LOL they ain't mods no more.)

I regress. Totally off topic now.

I think if the "not helpful" button administered an electric shock to the recipient, people would be more careful about what they post.
Seriously, I think the "not helpful" button should be limited, so that stalkers like Storm Shadow, who neg reps all my posts, will waste their time on something else.

Its just about if you found a particular post helpful RD...I'm not certain that all the other things you mention are even relevant.

Don't you like it when you post something and others find the information useful?

Anyone running a higher ratio than 1.51?

When rep is turned off, you can still colloect rep and read all the messages people send to you
