yeah public speaking is pretty tough to begin with. Nerves before speaking are good IMO as it keeps you real.
I find if I know the stuff I am presenting I have no problems public speaking. I actually speak publically everyweek. Often to mainly the same audience I might add but still you need to do a good job. Knowing your stuff makes you looks smooth and professional.
I find if I am watching a fumbled presentation, even a little fumble and I loose interest/attention.
Here's a tip: Get your notes in order and staple them or bind them... whatever so that they cannot get mixed up. Loose notes sink so many presentations its amazing. If you powerpoint. Go simple. No bells and whistles.
For peeps who want to do public speaking for work or personal development there is an organisation called Toasmasters

Regular meetings with set topics and the occasional impromptu topic so you gotta think on your feet. Great people who are there to help you get better at speaking or enough confidence to speak publically.
Public speakers are some of the most highly paid individuals. Why? Because no one wants to do it.
