imnotcrazy got it right. I was suprized not to see it sooner. My hydroshop sells the glass for aircooled hoods. Mine was $20bucks. It fits my sunleaves large horizontal and is like 20"x22" i believe. Its inches from my 1k... Task specific and I can vouge for it. Nice work on the Sketchup btw, now im intrested. Good luck, love to see it when you complete it. Keep it easy ~caddy

thanks! but im *certain* i can get the same thing cheaper directly from a glass outfit! going to hydro store is like buying all your popcorn at the movie theater... sometimes convenience wins and the wallet suffers, but there are ways around.... ;)

I dunno bro, $20bucks a pop for task specific hardware vs. "maybe" finding a glass shop to custom cut tempered glass... cause tempered is what you want, and heat resistant as well. If you do find what youre looking for besides a hydroshop let us know.

you really dont need tempered glass + its way more expensive
i mean, the air is going to be moving, right?
go to lowe's and have them cut you a piece of glass...like 5 bucks

i know this from experience

you can get the tempered but why would you?

Hello all,

I use tempered glass in my DIY hood. I had custom cut and tempered (18"X19") using 3 mill glass.

Is there a link that says tempered glass reduces lumens more then plain?

My glass never gets hot so the tempering for me is just a safety issue, however, if I am losing lumens (250w hps) and for a few buck I can replace the tempered glass with plain 3 mill glass. Maybe even two mill.

I say go with tempered, at least if you're tending the garden and bang the glass it's much less likely to break. Glass shards falling across bare skin is not fun

i will see what the glass shop says... if a superthin tempered glass passes more energy than a bit thicker normal glass (and the superthin tempered ends up the same strength as thicker normal),,,,,,,, i will have to do more research on it... i know a layer of pyrex cuts out about 9% of your light, so a 400w is now about a 360w.... BUT if you can put the plants basically right up against the glass, or say a few inches, then you can gain that back and probably then some. distance causes lumens to fall off *faster* than glass, but the original issue i had with glass at all was the fact that *ANY* glass cuts out UV radiation almost ENTIRELY, and the thicker it is, the worse it is! UV is important mostly on speculation that many of the high-potency landrace strains grow up either on the equator, or at very high altitudes... (Columbian, hindu kush, etc.) where high UV levels will boil the skin right of your face!! :yoinks: :chin:
