Anybody got any DIY lightstand plans?

Looking to build a light stand for a 400 watt Switchable remote ballast and hood.
Has anybody out there already done this looking for ideas/plans.

a guy built one, on some site... i can't remember now. Pretty simple, it was pvc pipe in a classic shape: a rectangle base, with Ts in the middle of each end. Up from the Ts came two more pipes, those had elbows at the top that had a crossbar - also of pvc pipe - and the guy's light hung from that.

it was 3/4inch pipe, and it seemed to work fine, he hung the light from whatever he had handy, i think it was some chain or something; but it doesn't matter, whatever you've got would work; i think his light already came with a chain and he used hooks he made out of coat hanger or something - wrapped around the cross bar at the top, and the chain was hooked into it.

The base of the thing was big enough that he could sit a rubbermaid tub in the middle, he built it specifically for that, but you could measure your space & look at what you have sitting on the floor, and adjust the size of the base accordingly.

Seems like it would only take the four corner elbows at the bottom, the two Ts to hold the risers, two more elbows, and probably three sticks of pvc pipe; maybe two...

either that or one of the backdrop stands on ebay for photo studio's would prolly work. same design but they can be found for like $75

If you have a drill, you can make it out of wood quite easily. Just figure out the distance accross that it has to be and the height. Homedepot will cut wood for you. So, you only need a drill and some long screw in order to stabilize it. Attach a nice long base board to each of your uprights by counter sinking the screws at the base. The use a board accross the top such as a 2 x 4 but vertical not horizontal. It should be stable and strong at roughly a 3' length. I've been trying to upload a pic but it's having problems right now. I'll try again later.
