Share what you have done if you dont mind.

I bought 10 acres 2 years ago way up in some north woods. Completely off the grid. No power, sewer, water, nothing.

I love it out there. I bought it to hunt but the methods to make it habitable make it a great area to retreat if some chaos brakes out.

I am trying to work on sustaible energy out there this year and would like to add 1Kw of solar panels, solar water heater, and a solar furnace. The heater and furnace are things I can build myself but the 1Kw of panels will set me back about $1100.

I need to build up a food supply out there ( a larger one atleast) and make a sustainable water collection and filtration method.

Wild life and fishing is abundant along with endless natural resources. Their is a single 5 mile, narrow, access road that leads to my land, which brakes off a no name road. It would create a good bottle neck if I had to setup perimeters and security.

I would heat with wood, the old fashioned way. I mean hell your in the woods right. Solar heating would not be enough and not cost effective.

a hidden cistern to collect water & a solar powered pump to bring it to you safely. you will need LOTS of salt if it really goes bad, and lead will be much more valuable than gold...although gold would make GREAT bullets if alloyed with silver to make it harder.:)

I for sure heat with wood as it is but a solar water heater would only reduce the amount of wood I need.

I am to fascinated with the energy in sunlight to let it all be bogarted by photosynthesis.

My ultimate dream would be a 8-10Kw solar setup all mounted up and some 2 axis mounts used to energize an electrolysis to produce hydrogen for collection.

I am yet to find a compressor that can compress hydrogen on such a small scale that is cost effective. Realistically, 200 liters storage I believe could last a week at a time for me.

look into permaculture food forest. lots of perennial foods that will just get better year after year with little work. ready when TSHF and most dummies won't even recognize it as food.

Yeah I live a few miles from a real small city on a couple of acres. Get as many as 8 elk sometimes in my yard…. I hated it when they ate my fruit trees. A lot of coyotes and I have seen a few bears too. I have a good well as long as I have power to pump it out.

If things ever get real bad in the US I believe the cities is where the chaos would happen. At least that seems likely. If something happens in the way of a natural disaster the rest of the nation will be there to help. But if the US dollar was to plunge then the whole nation be affected and no one would be there to bail us out.

Do you have a small cabin or planning on building one?

already on my 80 acre homestead...Commuting is a bitch to work...but worth it for my chunk of paradise....only one real neighbour and they are in their late 60's.

I have 2 wells, genny, and all the usuals a Frugal Squirrel would have stockpiled.

Add in the trout ponds, gardens, and greenhouse and things aren't too bad....I'm hoping to buy some dexter's for my pastures that are just about all fixed up fencing wise...Cow calf pair and a bull..we will have to see tho...Sooo much work, and it means buying feed for the winter months as I don't have a bailer or tractor for that matter (I can borrow tractor)..Apparently they are good at foraging, and with the low density I hope to get by on minimal extra feed.

We have power of course...but we also have a woodstove that is used for 70% of our heating needs.Cutting wood by hand would be one heck of a job, without the chainsaw should things ever turn sideways.

I live in a city too. I take very serious my egress plan. I couldn't imagine being stuck in a artificially sustained city when a 3/4 million people are lawless.

No hunkering down, no waiting it out, I'm the fuck out of here. The first 96 hours will be the worst violence.

the only way to survive a scenario like this is to kill everyone who posses any level of threat. running to your cabin in the woods isnt gonna save you for the simple reason that everybody will be headed to the woods and would most likely try to kill you for what you have.the only prepping you need is medications, lots of weapons and ammo good survival/hunting skills and being ready to kill at the drop of a hat.

True that, but not everyone will make it to the woods. My little plot of land has a single 5 mile access road which is extremely narrow. It would create a great bottle neck if I had to lock down.

Opsec is something that would have to become second nature when living by natural law. Guns you say eh? I think I have that part pretty well covered but it is more important to know how to effectively use them along with cover and a home field advantage.

i used to be a marine so im very effective with my guns as well as using surrounding terrain to my advantage. the fact that your able to bottle neck possible enemies and you have home field advantage are huge bonuses. the one suggestion i have is that you rig up some form of silent alarm all around your land that way you know they're coming but they wont know youve been alerted and are waiting to put them down.be ready for attacks from all sides also have 2or3 ways of gettig out of there in case you come up against more than you can take out.
