it's been a decade+ since my last one. it was a well respected maker...until the toxic lining thing started. after a lot of arguing, i got my replacement liner, but now it's time to put it out to pasture.

i noticed the prices have down a ton, but, what do i need to know before buying? what are the best tents out there? is there that much of a difference between gorilla tents and the second or third best?

I'm gonna be buying a 4x8 tent in the not so far off future and I'm interested in what ppl gotta say too. Right now I have a 4x4 Secret Jardin and love it. Been running it constantly for almost a decade with no problems.

I was thinking about going with the higher priced gorilla tents but read somewhere around here that the zippers mess up....anybody got any thoughts on that?

The less expensive Apollo tents are identical to the design of the Secret Jardin. They have little tweaks that make it a better all around tent. The Gorilla and the Grow-lab and its many imitators have a less than perfect zipper system when compared to Apollo/Secret Jardin.
The only advantage to the Gorilla would be height of tent...

Any of these tents are only reliable as the person taking care of them. My Secret Jardin 3x3 is great, but a lazy tear down can easily screw up zipper integrity and even create microscopic wear and tear that creates light leaks. Then suddenly your flower tent is only good for veg.

I'm impressed you've run the same tent for ten years!

I've never torn it down. And I'm pretty careful when working the grow. I only unzip the main door on it one time a day usually. I don't mess with all the other windows and stuff. It's been sitting in the exact same spot since the first day I set it up.

I've narrowed my choice down to the Gorilla line which allows you to add extra height. I believe it is 6'11 high and expandable to 7'11 with the included kit (higher if you are inclined), but I want the extra height. My current Secret Jardin has been a good tent for 5 grows, but I need more vertical height than the 3x3x6 tent affords as the ladies always find a way to reach the grow light.

Still in the decision process though, so following this thread.

Just looked at the Apollos online. The price looks great at only half the cost of a Jardin. And they do look the exact same as the Secret Jardins.....hmmmmm....

the gorilla is the better tent, the jardin isnt bad but its no where near the quality/durability. the jardin does have pin holes in the reflective material even when new, nothing that effects anything but its there, the gorilla had to have a zipper re sewn after someone tripped an fell into it but it didnt break or have any other issues, where any other with plastic joint would have failed completely.

i dare you to jump on or hang from one with plastic joints and see how well they hold up. both work fine but if you can afford the gorilla its a better tent, just do what works for you.

after reading these, i'm stuck between the secret jardin and the gorilla lite. it seems you're at the mercy of the chinese factory worker who made your tent on a particular day.

by the way, are both made in china?

I have used gorilla tents and everyone we have used is quality... If you are looking for specific set up information just shoot me a question..

I looked at all these fancy grow tents, read all kinds of reviews and threads.
I made a grow tent out of a 4 man ice fishing hut in an afternoon. Worked awesome for 9 plants around a vertical 940watt. :D
saved me a shitload of cash and never did experience any offgassing. In fact, I made zero permanent mods to the tent and it's in it's storage bag waiting for the -20 C to get here LOLZ might even grow weed in it again it worked so good.

The Apollos have metal poles and snap in connectors. Thats the main difference. The ports and vents are identical in placement. The reflectivity is the same and zipper/doors are the same.
My perception is that the tent is of a better quality due to manufacturing.

+1 TT :)

one last question...what is the difference between the gorilla and the gorilla lite?

The Lite line has a thinner fabric, does not include an extension kit, and comes in different sizes than the regular line. For example, you wont find a 5x5 tent in the Lite line, and the heights are lower than the regular line (6'11" for Gorilla 4x4 vs. 6'7" for the Lite). You can still purchase an extension kit though. I found the following description from one vendor selling their Lite line:

"Gorilla is at it again with a new LITE version of their original grow tents. It's the exact same tent as the original but with slightly less thick material. The bottom line; this tent will work great if the environment you put it in is ideal for your plants. For budget growers this is the best tent on the market.

I have used Gorilla, Hydro-Hut, and Secret Jardin tents. All very good products. Currently using a Hyro-Hut 3x3x6 and a Secret Jardin 3x3x6 twin. All are great product but Gorilla is the most expensive. Never looked at Apollo tents/may have to check them out.
