So here's the deal, I got their ro formula and I'm gonna run it head/head against Maxibloom. This will be in coco amended with perlite.
Normally I use tap water but since I'm trying to avoid as many variables as possible I wanted to run RO water.
Going to run my tried and true Gorilla Grape, a strain that I've been running for over 2 years now and one that I know all it's nuances.
Gotta run to the shop and grab a ec pen...
So, first question...Anybody having to supplement calmag when using the RO version?
Btw, I will document this side/side for all to see
Nope no calmag needed .and I use coco DTW & RO also . I've been running a few of dutch growns strains with it & they are calmag hogs !!! & the only thing i've noticed was a tiny yellowing on some new growth which could just be fast new growth or a slight mag deficiancy ... very slight .... I'm sure Bio master will chime in soon .... he's been doing side by sides with different nutes & he seems to love this stuff as much as i do :)
posted by bio master
Finished several side by side testing and Veg+Bloom keeps blowing them away one after another.....the latest testing was V+B up against the new Cultured Solutions by Current Culture the people that make the UC system.....this stuff is supposed to be especially for RDWC systems like the UC.....V+B works better! The guys at CC could learn a few things from Hydroponic-Research that is for sure!!
good luck with the side by side . link us to the thread about it so we can see the results . thanx evlme2

I found the RO version to have plenty of both Ca & Mg. It was the first time that I haven't had to supplement them.

dansbuds, rives, exactly what I was hoping to hear, thanks!
Now whether the Maxibloom will need calmag with RO water is another thread:thinking:
Since I don't have an EC pen yet, should I just go by the dosages listed on HR's website? < That sounded so noob:eek::

That would be a good place to start. I've found that their suggested dosage is very conservative (as opposed to damn near everyone else's!), so keep a close eye out for underfeeding. My plants looked like they had a couple of deficiencies going initially, but after I kicked the strength up a little, they looked great.

I ran it it at 5.5 grams/ gallon straight off the bat with rooted clones in a aeroponic setup and they all loved it.
Some of the best growth I've seen and the roots went absolutely nuts.

Shipping is hella fast! 2 days from the west coast to the east coast... Mixed up my first batch today to 600PPM... Unfortunately next watering day isn't until Sunday.... Im anxious! Only
Thing that is not a big deal at all but was a little suprised
Is that they dont provide any sort of "scooper".

i realized the PH of my tap water was way outta wack, and was away for a few days and had them watered with just tap water while i was gone, thats where my problems were coming from. Also at the last moment i decided to use a 50/50 promix coco mix instead of straight coco, and I got the hard water formula as a sample. Well, turns out for promix i should be using the soft/RO formula, but the very nice people at hydroponic research said they will ship me out another sample of the soft/ro formula this week!!! Really great company to work with!

Agreed on both points!

I'm stoked on the ease of using this stuff, comparing back to my old (7 part spurr GH formula) process, it's night and day. A task I used to dread is now easy as hell. And having it all one part will make it way, way easier to use for add backs into a reservoir.

As far as the scooper goes, what tools have y'all been using? I've been using a scale, some foil, and old plastic tablespoon/tsp scoop (from gh koolbloom) but I have found if the room is humid at all the veg+bloom tends to stick to the foil and scooper. I was thinking maybe parchment paper, and trying out a metal spoon next time.

Does anyone using this have a sap pH meter...I am curious?

YS I gotta say I've always thought you were doing some interesting work with nute formulas. So seeing your opinion on this one turn around after you talked with the company a bit was one of the key factors in my choice to try this stuff out. I don't know if you're set up for it, but I'd love to see you do a side by side with this formula compared to one of your custom mixes.

I use a small tupperware container to weigh it out in and whatever spoon i have laying around.

Ya me personally have just been kind of shaking small amounts out of the bag into the water and watching the PPm levels rise. I've been feedig by the schedule dansbuds posted up instead of going by the feed chart on there site.

2 weeks total, 1 week in bloom. so far so good, backed off from 1.5 ec to 1.2 - slight burn on a couple tips. 85% coco 15% pumice.

i am using 100 ppm tap water(9ph!) and the hardwater formula, no cal/mag problems. even using less ph down(citric acid) - 1/8th tsp per 4 gal from 1/2 tsp with floranova.

My formula really only varies in how much K I use...which is considerably less. It might not be that big of a deal. I was shooting for Albrecht ratios on cation exchange site base saturation and then tinkering with K to achieve sap pH around 6.4

My guess is this formula produces a slight higher sap pH...which is why I ask.

If you wanna buy a prepared formula this is the one.

I tried using this stuff for shits and giggles a couple days ago at 2 different locations...using the RO Soft version with Clean ass 10ppm water....

My observations... Both times left gnarly residue all on the bottom of the Rez... and most def did not self PH for me...plants didnt mind it though.... when I went to adjust the PH....my goodness....a lil bit of UP or Down and this shit would tank or skyrocket ...it was annoying as fuck ...

Amazing for people who are not into mixing up their own stuff...

I'll take Spurrs mix with some added goodies all day... I use the GrowMore Lineup... its the same thing as the GH 3 Part... $10 per gallon @ wholesale..Cal-Mag at $8per gallon...Silo-tek $12 per gallon...26% Kelp $50 per gallon...Humic Acid $7 per gallon... all Grow More... last me forever!!! I need 100 grams of the Veg/Bloom just to fill my a 20Gallon Rez?? hell no....

I didnt realize this stuff gets costy as fuck at the cost of being lazy?

Spurrs Mix is where its at... Proven 5* Champ

You should run it out Storm...the Ca:Mg ratio is superior to what Spurrr recomends.
