Team, I am starting a 20 light vertical 1000w hps grow in a 20' x 40' room. My plan is to vegg em big where I have 8 plants in a row and 4 across. Medium will be Coco in 5 gallon hempy buckets. I need help with how much air conditioning you think I will need. With the fans pointing up towards the vertical lighting, do I need a lot of a/c or can I use some carbon filters to suck the hot air on top out of the room?

is 2 x 5 tons too much? Can i get away with using mini splits?

Depending on your local. 3.5-5btus per wat . I am somewhere with mild weather and I always use 4 BTUs per a watt.. At 5 your looking at 100,000 BTUs

One ton is 12,000btus

10 tons is 120,000 BTUs

HL45, thanks for the input. I appreciate your help with this. I will post set up pictures etc. I am in southern california. Inland empire area so it gets really hot during the summer. So regardless of the fans pointing up to the lights, and if I have 3-4 carbon filters just taking the heat out, its safe to say I will need a couple 5 tons? Thank you again.

Why would you AC and exhaust at the same time? Literally pouring money out the window. Fans pointing upwards at the lights just move the heat, they don't cool anything.

I would seriously reconsider what your planning, or scale it back to a manageable set up to learn a few things first. Running before you walk is going to be very costly.

I second what mikell said and beyond that..
Sounds like you got a bit to learn.

Carbon filters work with fans, fans come in different sizes. This sizes move different cfm. Do you know how much air to move...but seeing that your in so cal you won't be able to move enough air when its warm outside. More than half the year

You should probably split the space into two 10 light rooms. Save you time and money overall then your HVAC company can zone the Ac and you will need less overall.
You could run relays and utilize half the ballasts.

Then you can flower one room while the other is vegging giving you perpetual harvests... If you have a return from both rooms you might be able to get away with one co2 controller..

If your interested get your post count up and I'll pm ya. You need 50 posts to pm so go to the tokers den and start posting....

I'll take my 5% after the second harvest
