Hawaiian Pidgin, A.K.A. Hawaiian-English Creole has nothing to do with the way Jamaicans speak. The syntax, inflection, slang and general verbiage are different. Hawaiian Pidgin came about for very practical reasons during the sugar cane plantation days. Immigrants from several countries, primarily Japan, China, Korea, the Phillipines and Portugal, came here to work the sugar cane fields (as well as local Hawaiians) and the plantation managers were English speakers so the immigrants had to learn some English and when immigrants from different countries spoke to each other they would speak what English they knew and would also use words of their native tongue so the plantation workers picked up the languages from their co-workers from different countries as well and so Hawaiian Pidgin was born.
An example of the words from the mix of languages could be:
Leonard: "Ho brah, I goeen back to my hale fo' bocha wiki wiki. When I stay pau you like go holoholo and bumbye we grind some kaukau and cruise ovah to John guy's and kanikapila?"
Ikaika: "Chee brah, I cannah. I stay fixing my tita guy's lua still yet. Da buggah stay all hammajang and plus it too, my guitar all kapakahi"
So from there the non-English words would be:
Hale- house in Hawaiian
Bocha- bathe or shower in Japanese (actually bocha bocha in Japanese meaning "splash")
Wiki wiki- quickly in Japanese
Pau- done in Hawaiian
Holoholo- to go cruising, e.g. in a car. I'm pretty sure it's from Hawaiian
Bumbye- slang term from English meaning by-and-by or after awhile.
Grind- to eat, slang based from English
Kaukau- food in Japanese
Kanikapila- to get together and play music from Hawaiian
Tita- sister, I don't know what language
Lua- bathroom or specifically toilet from Hawaiian
Buggah- bugger from English
Hammajang- screwed up or broken, possibly from Tagalog
Kapakahi- screwed up or broken from Hawaiian
So it would be translated:
Leonard: "My good fellow, I will be going back to my house to bathe in rather quick time. After I am done with that, would you like to go on a drive with me and later we could enjoy a tasty meal together then go over to John's house and play some music?"
Ikaika: "Oh my good fellow, I am unable to. I am already at my sister's house fixing her commode. Unfortunately, it is broken and in need of repair and on top of that my guitar is not in working condition at the moment."
So you see there, it is actual a very efficient and practical language in a multi-cultural community such as Hawaii. There are also plenty of words from Portugese, Chinese, Tagalog and Korean even though I didn't include them in the example.
In conclusion, nothing to do with wanting to be Jamaicans.
We've never been here before. Feels really odd.... but I could get used to it.
We are barely into Fall, and for all intensive purposes I am done. There is a single mature Skunkdog clone out there, but that is nothing, a fuckin' speedbump, maybe. I don't even want to screw with it honestly. I hit the wall a couple of days back, it'll take a couple of weeks before I want to see another untrimmed plant, let alone want to do the trimming.
From here on out things go downhill. Fast. The Skunkdog clones that gave close to a pound last go round now give four ozs this time. Next run gets worse. It gets cut in half again. Our Winter sun is about as intense as Montana's is in summer. If you think Mother Nature was a bitch this Summer.... you ain't seen nuthin.
So? What do you do?
Should go back to sleep.
I will go fishing, play some golf, read a good book.
Nothing like wax rips at 5 AM huh?
There are some things we gotta do. We gotta keep the genetics alive.
Fuck it, this is boring. I should say nuthin'.
This probably won't work. How's that for a roaring indorsment?
Before I moved into this house, we lived in the house directly in front of us. When we moved up the hill, my dear wife....
See Weez? New music. I was young then.....
.....brought up several boxes from the rented house. She stashed them in the garage. The garage was empty. As time passed, the pile grew. Grew big. big, like, BIG. It wasn't my stuff, back then we wern't married, it never got touched.
A few nights ago, I left the garage door open. A rat got in. The dogs heard it, I was asleep, the hunt was on. Two dogs, six hours or so to dig after the rat, well, it looked like a gernade went off at the bottom of the pile. Assorted shit everywhere. Broken flourescent tubes. A busted open box of rice full of seeds.....
What?
Yep. My entire seed collection, pre 1992.
Will they grow? No clue. Haven't decided to see. Yet.
What to do go fishing and let the other guys to the genetics alive thing. You can always fix your deck and paint the house lol good thing you an't next to me I'd get a whack in the head. Have a harvest party like in the old days. We better have our nitro pills handy.
Lookin tru seeds..seems like we get plenty fo try.early harvest all pau now time to fish.will get dry nug shots up when can I no stay plenty good wit dis kine stuffs.oh can do it..grey can also..all da bes Hawaii nei
Oh let's give it a roll ....they got the guns..but we got the numbers.........
You've seen the pics I take. They leave much to be desired. Frankly, they suck.
But if we want to go there, do this right, we need pics, a decent smoke report, smells, tastes, all that shit. Again, I could it....But.
That's kinda like asking a doting mother to pick which of her kids is the "best". She knows, deep in her heart, but she ain't talking.
So, what we need is an unconnected third party to do this tedious task. It can't even be someone on this island, because I know where all of you sleep. Though it doesn't sound like it (that mom thing again) we need an unbias judge.
A clean slate, if you will.
Now, before you deluge me with PMs asking to do this job....Don't. I have already picked him, He's accepted and I'm not gonna tell you who. One day, who knows when, you will have pics, you will have smoke reports, and all that other good stuff.
Better yet, They won't be from my bias lips.
Moving on....
Fuck you DB!....That's the nice thing about no kids. The Hare Khrishnas can fix this house up after I croak, because I'm gonna leave it to them. Until then, it does what it is supposed to do. Who gives a shit what it looks like. Perhaps my neighbors?
Besides.... It's not like I have Pele looking to pave over my house. Are you on the Hilo side of that flow , or the side that will have to drive three hours to get to town?
St Phatty....Embracing the suck is not a new term. Links to past logs will not be found searching. It doesn't work that way here. Links to past logs are below.
Chunky.....I'm on the fence. Should they even sprout???? that's gonna be a big job. All of us know what time does to memory. What if they are just not that good? Everyone still around from back then to this day still raves about the lost strains. The ones that got away. What if they are not that good? What if it was just our memories that made it great?
That would hurt.
They would be giant Sativas, grown into a market that wants Indica. Can you say PROBLEMS?
Uncertainty voiced.
By now you all should know what I'm gonna do. There never was any real question. You gotta do what you gotta do.
You make me laugh OH. Hope your seed hunt goes good for you. You are one of the few who asked and I'm in the Acers so all is good. By the time you read this you might be getting what we had last night good rain and a pretty good light show. You hit the right times for pulling the plants. Latters DB
Here's the smoke report oldhaole was talking about. Got a 3 different samples today to test an report back on. Got them back home an got to the #2 sample for a 4:20 sesh.
Bag appeal: 8.5
She has a chocolate/rusty hair look to her an a nice sticky frost that coated the scissors when I cut up a nug. It's got a little bright green but alot of golden hues to this sample. Zero signs of Botrytis or PM, an a decent trim.
Bud structure: 9
Nice an dense, an a very chunky lady if I may say. Medium size nugs that have a nice bud to stem ratio. I attempted to break up a nug by hand........ya right, grabbed the scissors to finish the job.
Aroma: 8.5
As well as the look she has a chocolate undertone followed by a chem like funk that I can't put my finger on. Reminded my of a chocolate affie that I got a long time ago.
Taste: 9
This sample brought back tasty memories so she scores high. Chocolate, chemlike, hashy flavor that sticks to the roof of your mouth (maybe I took to big of a bong rip hehe).
Potency: 9
It was up there with the killers for sure.
Type of high:
Very cerebral melt into the couch high, that's nice an long in her duration. Not the greatest for my arthritis, but It did provide a good amount of relief. I would smoke this for those not gonna do shit for a good 4-5 hours times. Looks like #3 will be like this too.
Bag appeal: 8.5-9
It got the in between score cause some leaf could of been removed still, but to the connoisseur's eye it isn't a big deal an gets a solid 9. This was the most stickiest outta the 3 samples. Very big trichs that stuck out an screamed bubble hash potential. I can see this strain making some killer full melt. She about 50%lime green with 50% golden hues. Some spots of Bot on the bigger nug in this sample that were cut out an discarded.
Bud structure: 9
Dense but not rock hard dense. The kinda density that has that slight sponge back slowly, but the sticky trichs act like glue. When ya take scissors to it, the nug gets all gooed together when its chopped up. Very huge pistils on this lady that keep bringing me back to its full melt potential of bubble hash.
Aroma: 9.5
I truly dig the funk coming of this special lady. Just reeks of pungent skunky funk. The kind that lingers in your mouth long after smoking. This is the one I burned when my friends cousins were visiting from Hawaii. Open a bag an your whole house is filled with her exotic skunky aroma.
Taste: 9
She lingers an unlike on the movie Pineapple Express, this is a good linger. Immediate mouthful of skunk funk as I took a rip, that just demanded to be respected for her immense flavor. Extremely mouth watering skunky taste you just can't get enough of.
Potency: 8.5
Potency is just where I want this one to be at. Just enough, but not to much if ya know what I mean..........total daytime bud.
Type of high:
Not as much couch lock type high as I thought it would be. A kind of get shit done type of herb for me. Really did a number on my Arthritis, so its my favorite so far. Like butter on my joints, I like to say. Very clear headed high that had a medium-long duration on her.
Gonna give #1 a burn in a few minutes an probably be back tonight with a report on her.
Bag appeal: 8
It's got a lime green color with lots of frost covering it. The hairs range from yellow/orange to a dark orange. Sticky to the touch like all the samples given. Just a lil leaf left behind that knocks the score down a bit. 2 big nugs given on this sample an 1 had a lil Bot on the inside.
Bud structure: 9
Has thick an chunky look to this sample an its covered in trichs. Density I would say is in between rock hard an semi-spongy, just enough give yet you don't have to break out the chisel.
Aroma: 8.5
I get a type of chem smell, but when squeezed its kinda got an earthy kush nose. Hard to put my finger on this one's scent.
Taste: 8
On the exhale, one gets a earthy kush-like taste.
Potency: 8
She gets a healthy score of 8 for her dankness.
Type of high:
I wouldn't say it's a daytime smoke but more in between a day an night smoke. Can be heady, but has a nice body effect to her also. Had major expansion on the bong rips that caught me by surprise, an brought a tear. Decent meds for the arthritis, for sure a joint for joints type of smoke for me.
Really been digging trying the Island flavors oldhaole has. You can tell he's got a passion for this an it shows in his nuggage. Thanks for entertaining my interpretation of your awesome work.
