acctually Jan is a busy month in the shop with people stocking up on seeds for the summer grows
and with cheap off peak travel and hotel rates it makes sense to shop early
I will be returning to Amsterdam in January on the 4th & 5th, I usually go at the start of Jan every year.
I find it much more enjoyable with less tourists, however be prepared for some very cold winds and possibly heavy rain or snow, if you don't mind the cold and wrap up warm you should have a great time.
I also always make a trip to the SeedBoutique, and I look forward to seeing OP if he's tending the shop in Jan, I bought my piano black stash box this year and I still love it!
I have not stayed at the Aspen but I just had a look at a map and you should have no problem finding your way around.
Awesome to hear man glad theres gonna be some fellow ICmaggers there. We will have to keep in touch and meet up for a smoke out once we get there. Im from north eastern US so im somewhat used to cold temps. Heavy snow would be alright but rain sucks. Where do you usually stay when your in the dam?
I've always stayed in Centrum, I don't really mind small rooms because I'm usually out all day, the noise doesn't bother me and I like to be close to the station and "activites".
I will be at the Hotel Terminus, I've had alot of good feedback about that place and it was only 62euro for a nice room w/tv, shower, safe, wifi etc. They are supposed to have quite a nice brekfast aswell.
This will make the 2nd time in Holland, was in town 3 years ago for cannibus cup. Im on a budget of around 2k so hotel had to be very cheap. Its about a 8 hour plane ride for me how long is yours? My flight gets to schipol at 7am so should be settled in the hotel and everything by noon. I will be traveling with one of my buddies as I dont think Id be able to take my girlfriend(couldnt stay under a 10k budget if I brought her). I will be in Adam during the NCAA National Football Championship game and there is a good likleyhood that my team (WVU Mountaineers) will be in the game do you think the game will be shown on dutch TV??? Ive found a sports bar that has NFL on sundays but ive got no clue on NCAA. Maybe someone from UK or elsewhere in europe might be able to help. Thanks for all the Help.
PS Has anyone ever purchased a Pre-Paid SIM card for their cellphone 50 dollars isnt bad for unlimited incoming calls.
Sorry bro but I've got no real idea about the games being shown on tv, but I do know of a few sports places but they usually have UK stuff on, I will have a look around the web and see what I can find for you
It will be my 4th time in Amsterdam, my flight is between 45mins and 1hr25mins depending on which airport I depart from and the route they take (I will be leaving from London).
I arrive at 8.50 Dam time and estimate that I will be in Central coffeshop by 9.45 LATEST
The SIM card deal sounds very good, but will it cover your whole trip?
We should definatly meet up for a smoke, I will probably head down to SeedBoutique on Friday the 5th, my departing flight leaves at 21.50 so I've got quite a bit of time to get smashed before I get on that plane!
Yea I dunno about the game either but I will die if I miss it, goin to Amsterdam isnt as rare as your team possibly wining the national championship. The SIM card lasts for 1 year so I may be able to get 2 uses out of it, if not could prob always sell it on ebay. Here is some more info on it http://www.cellularabroad.com/hollandppsc.html. We will have to meet up first thing once we get there, we could just drop luggage off at locker at central station as our hotel doesnt allow check in till 2pm. My hotel came to 340 euro for 8 nights. Hard to beat 22euro p.p.n. Will you be traveling solo or in a group?
Damn! 22euro ppn is a great price, I will be travelling alone as it is just for one night, and most of my mates hate the Jan weather, but I love it!
My hotel also limits check in until around 2, but I've found that they will usually let you either check in a bit early or hold your luggage for you (if you trust them)
As far as I know there are only a few coffeeshops open in the morning so we shouldn't have any problem choosing one
Have you chosen some specific things that you want to see or do during your eight days, I find it always helps me to make some kind of list otherwise it all becomes a blur and I just smoke all day long
Yea I hope the Weather isnt too bad tho, guess I cant complain either way, Ive been to most of the places in A'dam (van gough, anne frank houis , heiniken tour, vondel park) I cant really think of much else to do, Last time i was in the dam for 2 weeks so Ive had a good bit of time to explore. This trip will be more of a relaxing sit in a coffeshop or 2 all day and try their entire menu. I would like to take a trip to Wille Wartels in Harleem. Was also thinking about going to belgium as the only place Ive been in Europe is Amsterdam(might just wait for another time as that will give me a reason to come back). Alan do yo live in UK?
I've been to Belgium a few years ago and to be honest I found it pretty quiet but I guess it's all about timing. However I would certaintly recommend Barcelona, it is a really beautiful city with both modern and classic architecture (sp?), with some friendly Catalonians and kind bud!
I do reside (currently) in the UK but I'm looking for something else long term, maybe Bright Falls?
I visited Anne Frank's huis, and I found it thought provoking to say the least. How was the Hieniken brewery, I've always wanted to visit it but I usually go short trips and I don't want to leave the center.
Yea I walk thru the rld at night when im nearby I dont make it a point to go but i dont mind walking thru once i get there. Ive never tried their services as I cant see the point in paying for something thats easily obtainble for free(or for the low price of a few pints and a shot or 2). Im sure my friend will be all about trying them out tho, guess Ill get some more insight into it. Heiniken Brewery is cool but its not in service anymore more just like a museum. Im def gonna go to the Anne Frank Houis this year as my friend wants to see it and last time my pictures were destroyed when I tried snapping a pic in the RLD(know your not supposed to but who can resist???)
I plan on trying some less commercial shops this time also , Het Ballonette , Bush Doctor, Blue Bird. Didnt make it to either of those 3 last time and ive heard that they have good products. ONLY 66 more days of this oppressive war on drugs BULLSHIT.
Less comercial shops sounds like a good idea however I've always found that the quality is actually very good in January, it seems like they are all competeing agressively with each other considering the lack of tourists.
I have heard very good reports about Blue Bird, but that was at least a year ago and things change quickly in the Dam canna business.
Taking a pic in the RLD priceless! , I seen a couple of guys get beaten up for that and even a couple got chased around the canal. Shame that you lost your valuable pics.
Have you been to SeedBoutique before? & How old are you guys (no specific details just a rough number would be good if you don't mind)
It certainly is my ritual Unika. I've done it every trip so far but I've only ever got a seat once! A small place but a great atmosphere.
When are you thinking of booking?, I usually leave it a bit later but I couldn't help myself when I saw it was the last room left, do you have your accomodation sorted out?
anybody and every body. from the girls themselves to the cops.
consider yourself lucky if one of the above stops you....
it is cleary marked that photos and videos are not permitted of the windows.
BEWARE THE PIMP SLAP!
ps. if you really must a canal boat tour is probably the safest way to get a few pics.
or you could just show a little respect for a foreign culture and the working girls, and use the camera in your pocket to explain away any bulge.
That and most of us would rather see the buds from the coffeeshops.
