Theres a thread on good eating in the Dam which im sure you'l find helpfull!

Theres a good few shops that often have decent hash if u look about , i personally like the rifman hashes that can be found in Dampkring and rokerij.
grey area, greenhouse, popeyes, barneys, stix also generally have nice hash can get some nice dark hashes aswell, most shops sell some sort of ice/bubble hash but it is expensive, not something id bother with as u can make ur own at home!:joint:

LOL BRINGING A GUN!!! Now thats plain insane, only an american can seriously ask such a question. But anyways go to Bluebird or you could try the rifman selection from dampkring/pink floyd. Personally I dont like the Rifmans too much but a lot of people do.

clorox

Smokin on that serious...
i dont know why on earth someone would bring a firearm on vacation...

but anyway, the dutch police carry some of the sickest submachine guns ive ever seen!

Also the city is much safer now than it used to be. I remember the first time I was there in 97 arrivin at the central station at 2200 alone and walking straight into RDL. Scary but those days are gone. Amsterdam is one of the safest capitals in Europe I think. And yeah if youre considering bringing a gun, then maybe a schroom trip in the park is not a good idea.

what a lot of you fail to understand is that where i come from, bringing a gun is NOT a big deal.

for you to say i'm an aggressor because i asked a question about personal protection? please. stop posting.

like some people have already said, those of you unfamiliar...simply walking out my house puts me in danger. a personal sidearm is no bullshit, i was ALMOST KILLED and robbed.

you "dutchies" and those making comments about that AGAIN fail to realize that having a gun to your head and literally have the doctor tell you and your family you probably wont make it is a big turn around when it comes to realizing how the REAL WORLD works.

the really sad part is is that about 2 pages ago i asked to stop talking about the gun idea. yet i have to keep responding to stoners who cant read WHY i asked the question in the first place.

yet dozens of you post, and post, and post, and criticize my asking about bringing a gun. how ironic is that? the idea is so repulsive to you that you must KEEP on posting over and over and over saying the same stupid shit...seriously...

only a few of you have responded about the other questions at hand (food, hash, etc.) - thank you. to those of you who keep talking about the gun, here's what i have to say:

- it's my right to carry it, i have every legal and moral right in my country to do so
- you have not faced the battle i and many others face having lived in inner-city if you believe you dont need a gun.

"if you aint walk a mile in my shoes and you aint lived a day in my life
you aint survive the shit i done survived
you aint had to deal wit the shit i had to deal wit homeboy
you cant muf**kin judge me partner"

minus the ghetto-ness, dude has a serious point. most people see people with a gun as "dangerous", "provocative", "gangster", or just general "problem causer"

what yall need to understand is that's not the case (especially in the USA)...protection is necessary. deal with some of the shit i've been through. the only option you have is to have a strap when theres a very high chance at some point living in the city you will be confronted by someone with a gun.

get real.

....if this is how the amsterdam populous responds to such a question...maybe Ibiza or California sound better.

Come on, we all read why you asked the question but its not a good reason for bringing a gun. Being hassled by some street thugs does not make it right to carry a gun in Europe.
It is sad that people feel they need to carry guns, if I where you I'd save that Amsterdam money and spend it on moving somewhere else.

My family is here, no.

Second, you are just another who doesn't understand.

If being hassled my "street thugs" in amsterdam is no big deal, over here it is. People get killed over $20. I have a right to carry, but again it seems like the populous over there looks down on people who feel the way i do

Again, Amsterdam is not your neighbourhood, so listen to people instead of giving us that pro-gun speech. You asked wether bringing a gun to Amsterdam was a good idea, you did not ask us wether we think your neighbourhood is dangeroues enough to carry sidearms.
And maybe you really should move to another place for that money as one user said. I have family in New York, Stony Brook Long Island, and Boston and none of them own a gun or have ever needed a gun - go figure... ;)

Umm i've been to amsterdam countless times and never needed a gun. Just lots of bud, good food, and whores in the windows. On saturday nights the police have the packed downtown on lock down. Mounted police every where there wasn't much trouble going down.

dude you have no room to talk. have a gun put to your head and be beaten and shot at like me to the point where again I was almost killed.

you have some serious issues man. first off learn some respect.. give it and you'll get it. second I wasn't just given an "answer", I was belittled and critisized for my beliefs/way of life. you really need to stop posting because all you do is bitch and whine and try to tell people what to do. take the hint and STFU.

For Coffeshops, you might want to try the Grasshopper across from the train station,
or the Bulldog on the Leidseplein,
or Smokey's on the Rembrandtplein,
or Free Adam on Damstraat, just off Dam Square... just a few doors down is the Old Man Store, where you can buy a knife.
For food, try Gaucho's, or FEBO, or Panneakehokken(sp) ..."pancake house".. plus there are lots of MacDonalds and Burger Kings.
There are Spanish Bars that sell "tapas", good bar food goes nice with drinking.
The Black Tulip Hotel has a nice bar, and you might consider staying there with your friend.
Avoid Indian or Indonesian restaurants, where they have ristaffels, or rice tables. They just try and fill you up on cheap stuff.
Also, try the full English breakfast at Barneys Uptown, across from their Coffeeshop on Haarlemerstraat.
The Marriott Hotel off Leidseplein has good American breakfast, plus the Best Western Eden off Rembrandtplein. Also the Krasnaplosky on Dam Square has excellent buffet.
Don't eat anywhere that doesn't have an English menu, or you will be over-charged if they know you are American.
If you do like the meal, be sure and leave 15% tip like at home, so there is no ill feelings.

You live in the US, a first world, highly policed continent based on the promise of democracy and a fair chance. When you live in Beirut or somewhere where violence IS real and a daily occurence people might take you seriously. As it is your coming across as a complete idiot and it would probably be advisable to stop replying to this thread.

You think your the only westerner to suffer violence, get a grip, then get over yourself, then go to Wendys and have a time out.

And where do YOU get off telling me what i think?

No, i never said, insinuated or stated that i think i'm the only one to suffer violence. I've dealt with some crazy shit, and just because i feel i need personal protection and i ASKED A QUESTION regarding it does NOT mean that i'm self-absorbed nor the only one who's suffered.

Then again, look at your rep. 90% of the posts i see on this forum by you are ignorant/rude anyway, so you're correct - i'm done replying to both you ignorant assholes.

I suffer from ignorance too. Ignorance is bliss!

Since ignorance is indeed bliss, but willful ignorance is unheard of, what is the intellectual to do?

I suggest complete acceptance of the dirty truth. When our expectations of life do not exceed its capacity, we will hopefully get the same comforts of the person in fantasy-land.

That last statement is vague.

Your confusion about whether the last statement is vague does not apply in this case, and is explained due to my ignorance.
