Am I gonna melt a snowy roof?

Nobody ever notices those 3 and 4 inch pipes sticking out of the roof or going up the sides of homes and buildings. They are sewer vents. With out them septic and sewer systems won't work because shit needs to flow downhill. Well if you stick the end of a straw and plug the end it creates a vacuum and doesn't drain.

Huh. And as I was up there cleaning the gutters this fall I was wondering what in the hell all the vents were.

Yep. Every sink, shower, toilet, bath, clothes washer, and dishwasher is required by law to be externally vented because of the potential methane gas build up...

* They also require a second methane gas prevention type: P-traps...

for what it is worth...

I live in a very cold climate. Day time temps anywhere from -10 thur 18 degrees F during winter days. So cold. I have 2000w watts running in a 10ft x 5ft x 6.5ft tent in airtight sealed hoods. I have the vent of the lights blowing right out into the living room. With 2000w running im able to heat my first floor of the house to about 55 degrees depending on the outside temps. My first floor is roughly 1000-1100 sq ft. I still need to turn the furnace during the day other wise it just dosnt heat up enough.

Thanks for the replys guys...You all have very good points...so venting into my attic is a bad ideal....it has insulation but its loose not the pink panther stuff....and its only on the attic floor boards not on the attic cieling/roof

And i dont wanna rot the wood or nothing so its a no go... ill prolly end up drawing air from my window and venting out my bedroom door...

I'm looking at a garage space with no structure over it. 8 Gavitas. My normal method would be to vent straight up but my new spot is in snow country

How about insulating the ceiling, provided you have access and then venting up into the rafters?

This is an old ass thread, you must have been digging deep huh? 8 gavitas in an uninsulated garage would certainly melt snow. Probably cause ice damming too but that's another story. So when you say no structure over it you mean no drywall or anything on the trusses and it's just open up to an uninsulated roof deck? Looking like this?

You can still vent up but you will have to remove the air out of the garage. What's your venting like in the garage? Do you have any gable, soffit, or ridge vents on the garage? I'm thinking your best bet would be to have your carbon scrubber mounted centrally above all the lights and have it vent out a gable end vent. That will be a lot of heat though and you will probably need to supplement with some AC to cool things down. Lastly, if this is your house that you own instead of renting (I'm assuming it is) I think insulating the garage would be a very wise choice as well.
