Alternative To Fox Farm Soil

Im looking for a good alternative bag soil that is available online ready to use. Ive been using FFOF since I started growing but the quality has suffered. Im getting fed up with my seedlings getting burned and weird insect invasions. If anyone knows of a better source for soil then please share. I dont mind paying a little more

alright i havent bought any soil (peat-coco etc. based soilless) for years now, keep recycling it but before started doing that canna, biobizz and plagron mixes were treating me fine.

between these three i’d go with plagron royal mix or canna bio terra. i dont know if these are available to you but you asked so i answered haha

I use Roots Organic Original potting soil.I've not been dissatisfied. Every grower is going to have his fave,but mine has been and continues to be Roots O. I also use their Micro Greens seedling mix. I use the Micro Greens not only for seedlings,but as a base for Landraces that tend to be finicky about ferts. Some some people might freak out,but I use a toaster oven and those big aluminum Turkey trays and bake my soil before I use it. Honestly, I'd rather deal with whatever happens to the soil during baking than import some dam* pest that I'll fight for weeks to eradicate. Then I just use good common sense when entering the grow space. When you get to be my age,you just don't have the patience to deal with doggone bugs. I also bake Coco Coir just in case I were to dabble in some Mycology. Not that I would do that you understand , but just that if I did, I'd be prepared with clean Coco all ready to go. <wink wink>.

I switched to building my own soil in 2014 after I got fusarium in 2013 from bad soil.
I havent been able to find a reliable bulk soil supplier in all my years. Growru was kind of close, but he made one batch of soil way too salty one year and that cost the farm I was working for a lot of money. But that was back in 2016 or so, so maybe he is more reliable now.

If you're on the US east coast, I like Coast of Maine.

You are over-watering the Fox Farms potting mix. The problem with Fox Farms is if you overwater the Fox Farms you will burn the roots from the nutrients being released from the water. I've used Fox Farms many times with water only and had super results. Weigh your cups before and after you water to keep from overwatering. Here are some photos of Ocean Forest plants given water only.

Roots Organic is an alternative to Fox Farms and a good mix for organic grow. However, if you overwater Roots Organic you will burn the plant too.

Ocean Forest was always a little hot for me but the Happy Frog always worked well for me.

I've been using the Happy frog. Switching to Pro-Mix BX Biofungicide + Mycorrhizae for next grow.

I'm normally a Pro-Mix person. But I'm trying Gaia Green Living soil
and like it. The only issue is the price which is double the Pro-Mix.
I'll probably mix the two soil types in my next grow to cut down
on the price.

I appreciate the tip. I try to keep watering to a minimum. Its gotten harder to moniter since ive upgraded to 5 gallon air pots and cramped up my grow room. I may go back to 3 gallon. They dry faster and it seems thats all sativas really need anyway, atleast indoors

It confuses me because some people online say they're totally different soils while others say they're the same thing in a different wrapper. Ill give happy frog a go at some point

I was looking for the info on my computer when I made that post and I coldn't find the pics. I would have done a thread on the tests here but the search engine doesn't seem to work for threads started be me??? Isn't that a standard search function? My desktop is back in Ohio and I am working off a temporary laptop so the info might be back home. I'll keep checking.

I added 20% perlite to Happy Frog. A bit too much but better as far as not retaining so much water.

G&B is OK.

One option is to just hike into the woods, find some soil that smells right,
and carry some home.

Then add a small amount of supplements.
