I cannot even imagine me or my husband yelling like that! That was no way to talk to a child no matter the circumstance. I have yelled at my kids, damn right. But that was vile and vicious of him and to call her names and threaten her?

No...that is not acceptable parental behavior, ever.

I don't know their story, I don't keep up with stars and stuff, but if he goes off like that on a 11 year old girl.....the judge needs to carefully consider supervised visitation, not joint custody.

This has nothing to do with me or "learning to love". I have yet to pass judgement on anyone with any of my words in this thread I never said he was or wasn't justified I'm saying that if this bothers you so much then just do something about it, be a big brother to a child that really needs your help, volunteer to work or help with children who are or have been abused. If you do that then you will have some context. Those of us who have helped or intervened with true abusive situations know that this incident without any context is pretty tame by comparison. It is shocking and vicious but that's about it. There are many many many vicous people in this world. There are countries and cultures where every female child is circumsized or children who are sold into sexual slavery and yet this crap gets on the national news. I'm just not big on sitting around and passing judgement on a complete stranger with regards to a case that you know nothing about so you can feel better about yourself. Being judgemental to me is a trait of someone who doesn't know how to love.

I generally consider myself to be pretty open minded and not very judgemental. But we all have our issues and things that we are passionate about.

My feelings on abuse are black and white I guess, seems not to be a gray area for me on that. Maybe that makes me judgemental about it, I don't know. And, I'm not sure you can really "rate" abuse, it's all very, very detrimental.

I love very easily and readily, always have and I believe I always will.

I'm sorry pomh, that comment wasn't directed at you.

I'm the opposite though. I feel there are many shades of grey. When children of a tribe in africa undergo scarification on their forhead as a tribal initiation is that abuse? I don't feel that it is but you are repeatedly cutting a child even if it is something that they want to do. What about a 13 yr old given a strong brew of tabernanthe iboga to hallucinate for 3 days? In america someone would go to jail forever if they did either of those things.

What about a mother who stands by and listens to her daughter being verbally abused so she can record it and sell it to cnn so she can make her ex look bad? To me that is abuse. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the daughter was laugjing at him throughout the duration of this rant. In the versions I've heard the daughter's microphone is conspicuously absent.

Reminds me of that funny saying .. you know you're in love when you've planned the others murder.

... you are actually offended by that?

have you any children of your own? and do you know how fucking stupid kids can be? he got pissed and yelled at his kid.. what the fuck is wrong with that, he's a parent and he's trying to straigten his kid out. i grew up with much harsher shit than that.

let cnn warp your brain and let him seem like a villain. he's being a normal human being.. no more, no less. i can't believe cnn even wasted their time with that garbage. actually no, it makes sense, undermining celebrities who are constantly under the public eye makes people feel better about themselves.

What I cant believe is that Baldwin actually trotted out a public apology in regards to how he reacted to his kid! Can you imagine having to give America a public apology in the media after you spank your kid or yell at him to FUCKING STOP SHOVING CRAYONS IN HIS ASSHOLE FOR THE 500TH FUCKING TIME IN THE LAST HOUR?

*praise jeebus I have no kids*

I feel bad for those who think it is normal for parents to speak to their children that way. My parents never spoke to me that way and I would never do it to my children either.

I think alot of people, especially here at IcMag, love to think that the world is a kind and caring place- Its almost like you forget the real problems in the world, like hunger, aids, cruelty, homelessness, child slavery etc and would rather focus your energy on stupid little things like a full grown man shouting at his child, I mean- are you really fucking sure?

Fact is, I'm sorry to say, we live in a bad world. While it's filled with some caring folks, the harsh cold reality is that todays world is TOUGH- I think parents should raise their children keeping this in mind. Sometimes you need to raise your voice to demand respect, which is vital with a child, otherwise they'll walk all over you and think they can do the same to everyone else in the big world.

Have you actually listened to the call?Or was that doctored by CNN to vilify poor Alec?
Read what you wrote and realize how stupid you look.Yelling is one thing, this asshole flat out verbally abused his 11 yr old daughter, and it is unexcusable.
the language and tone was one that should be used on an adult, never a child.

who cares. Parents do a lot worse things to their kids than call them names.
