Air cooled reflector testing with Digital footcandle meter

I saw these at the Kush Expo on Saturday.....Air Cooled Vertical lights ...these things looked liked they shitted hard on my Magnum XXl Ocho's ....I've never seen a hood look so bright ...i was placing my hand on the glass with a 1000 watt burning and my hand wasnt even warm....Im about to order like 10 of these and see what these babies are all about....

Anyone else seen these b4?

I've been meaning to post about this company on here for a minute now, but I would have referred to their other products, "the hood" and "the hood xl." I have to agree with everyone else on vertical hood setups, I really just don't see the benefit.

With that said, I would very much so like to see some comparisons with their other hoods utilizing vacuum pressure to cool without the cut-out air cooling holes that create dead spots for reflection. They offer a couple simple comparisons, but I'm exactly willing to just blindly trust their data. They claim that their hoods with a digital 600 can out perform a conventional hood running a 1000w... I would love to see this to be true... and hope that someone can get their hands on one to test this out. I plan on calling them tomorrow if I can afford the time to get some more info on their products before I go hood shopping, I would really like to replace my yield master IIs.

Regardless of their claims, I have to say I love their designs, especially the hinged glass with latches.

it says way in the begining of this post that the glass only reduces the par score by 2-4%. does this mean the lumens is only reduced by a very low percentage too? please discuss, thanks

I was hoping to find a completely air-tight air-cooled reflector that did not let light escape out the intake/exhaust. I guess adding an overlapping flap on the intake/exhaust would obstruct the air too much, so the light is sacrificed?

Looking at the SuperSun 6, the socket seems mounted where it could be obstructing the airflow..

Compared to a Block Buster 6 or C.A.P. Lumenaire 6, which have the socket suspended beyond the vent...

XXXLs don't look air-tight enough to consider...

Someone point me to something air-tight and well made, with the cord coming out of the reflector itself not thru the intake. It'd be nice if it didnt loose so much light but I suppose that's too much to ask huh.

I want to drop some cash on a powdercoated wonder and not have to cover the pretty thing with tape. Actually a few of them..

Check out the PL Light System vented reflectors. The vents are on
the sides and I suspect they may help your problem.

I bought two superwides by this company: http://www.mavericksun.com/superwide/

They are completely air tight and the cord comes out the hood. I am happy with them.

I know the company gets a bad rap for its nutrient line but it sounds like AN 's Melonhead reflector solves the problems you're mentioning. I've also read a lot of good reviews on it. They seem reasonable enough in price. Just some food for thought as I have also been shopping around for a hood when I came across it.

PL Lighting System: looks like glass slides in... would require tape for air-tight seal. looking at the inside leaves me uncertain about its cooling efficiency.

MaverickSun Superwide: socket is obstructing airflow, light escapes thru vents.. other than that it looks nice but C.A.P. Lumenaire6 looks like it has less airflow restriction than both this and the SuperSun2..

Melonhead reflector: Cleaning the glass / bulb would be a bitch, you have to disconnect your ventillation just to give it a wipe down. Also only 8" that I could find.. I'm going 6".

Still looking... sigh..

The only one I can think of that doesn't leak light through the vent is the Hydrofarm daystar.. which I ran for years but it doesn't have as even of a spread as others.

Question on wattage

Question on wattage

Hello everybody. Would it be the same lumen output from a 1000w bulb dialed down to 60% power output (600w)using a 1000w lumatek e balast vs a 600 w bulb and 600w lumatek e Ballast running at 100%?

try a light meter.

that would be a great post to the thread.....

I never understood, what is the fucking point of manufacturing an air-cooled hood that isn't air-tight. SHIT IS RETARDED.

so super sun 2 is still the best overall other reflectors? i see this thread was made along time ago...

i'm wanting to know what is the best reflector for 4x4 600 watt reflector..

gonna DIY replica of the reflector is the best, thanks

 imho this ^ is the worst thing to do if you want max lumens reflected down on the garden.. lol build one then send it in and have it tested against reflectors in this thread and watch how the numbers of the hand-made-hood more than likely fall way way short of even the shitiest store bought specs !

Peace

I've heard that these reflector doesn't cooldown the growroom really good?

The air need just pass in it or need to be sucked out? I ask this because my canfan push the air in my cooltube (that I want to replace).

Thank you!!
