I got sniped last night, think I'll take another run @ a similar item tonight. at least I know there's one less interested party as they got theirs already.

I buy quite a lot of things on Ebay, got my new tent(Black Orchid darkroom knockoff) and filter, I'm about to order a new fan for intake and a transformer speed controller and ATC800 temp controller(great bit of kit for the DIYer) for my climate board. When it comes to grow gear, I only buy from people who have the listing set as a private listing. It means it won't show what you bought in your/their feedback.
The guy I bought my filter from has 3 accounts, one of them has hydroponic in the name and the fans/ filters cost around £10-20 more than on his regular ventilation supply accounts so look out for that.

My friend (American) he goes to garage sales and has a garage full of junks. He has a keen ability to know the value of weird things. He always sends me links to his auctions to see frenzies over strange things he sells.

He bought this record player from the 60s. It is a cardboard box that folds up and has a handle like a lunch pail. He pays 50 cents at garage sale and on ebay it started a bidding war and sells for $158. He does this all the time.

He tells me there are freaks out there that buy women shoes and underwear. Ebay says you have to wash clothes before sell, but he gets email from people begging him to not wash the shoes or underwears. So he takes a picture of his Philippine wife wearing fuzzy slippers. Bidders go crazy and want the slippers and pay way too much for them because they have a picture of a woman wearing them.

I think sometimes it would be fun to do something like that, but it is a lot of work.

LOL, I remember seeing a TV show about a stripper/internet cam girl who used to sell her underwear to pervs. She would buy cheap knickers, wear em, and send em out. The funny thing was if she had too many orders to fill and not enough time to wear all the knickers, she would just rub the crotch of the knickers on her dogs nose and send them anyway.

When I was on dialup with AOHell, I used to frequent the chatrooms quite a bit and there was this dude whos name was "Wantsuniforms", so I PM'd him to try to sell him a bunch of UPS Uniforms I had, I put in the message thatthey were all brand new, still in the plastic wrapper He PM'd back that brand new was no use to him.

I discovered last year while searching for soft woolen socks that there is a HUGE market for a LOT of used ladies' wear. Shoes, socks, undies, bras, always marked PRIVATE. Shoulda known, eh?

I've been getting killed the last couple of days and to top it off tonight I got beat in a dead even heat dollar wise but being as his/her bid was placed before mine it won as the tiebreaker. I lost 3 auctions in less than 24 hours to better bidders, I'm off my game.

All 3 items were for the same project & so now I'm wondering if it isn't a sign from above to forget about it for now.

Ruh roh! I've found that as long as I'm diligent (and use multiple windows) AND use odd numbers, I can usually win what I'm bidding on. You've gotta make the change numbers really, really odd, though. E.G. using prime numbers for your change. This usually allows me to win by cents, not dollars.

Sometimes, I say fuck it, and just go with Buy It Now.

I also learned that you can not play that game if you don't have a good inet connection. When I first started out eBaying I lost LOTS of bids due just to slow connections. Not anymore!

As for those items, maybe it was a sign not to work with those sellers. :dunno:
I'm persistent, like an itch, so mine may not be the best advice.

my connection's fast & I usually get the bid in w/in the last 3 seconds leaving no time for another bid to come in, last night I wasn't gonna lose, I bid $250 but it came in @ about $145 again because I leave no time for others to bid or peck away @ my lower numbers driving my winning bid up.

btw, most sellers resent snipe bidders so here's my typical motive operandi. I contact the seller with a few detailed questions, I throw in a casual 'thanks' for the great auction goods and I mention how I've been getting killed by snipe bidders lately (usually far from the truth) but really want to win this auction.

If I like what the seller tells me about his goods I'll go to the item & bid until I'm in 1st position, you can be sure a smart seller will recognize this; if & when I'm bumped out of top bid and there's days to go I'll consider how much room there is between the current price & my buy price and I'll regain the lead.

no matter what happens after that I'm all about the snipe bid, whether I'm in 1st position going into the final seconds or I get bumped out I bid my max right @ the bitter end. By auctions end the seller knows I sniped but also that I was top bid @ least once.

lmao! I always do & I always wait until my final bid to toss up the 'odd' dollars & especially the 'pennies' part of the bid.

I so fucked up on that tie the other night, sitting there blazed & wondering for a moment how the sellers winning dollar amount and my bid amount showed up in red as a loss, took me only a second to realize I didn't juice the bid, I relied on knowing its worth & bidding it to right there.

When I was buying/selling knives weekly I was much more practiced @ the craft.

Huh... so you go ahead and place a bid even if there are days to go on the auction? I never do that anymore, ever. I wait as close to the last minute to place a bid as I possibly can.

BrnCow, never heard of bidwatcher.

yeah but I do it only when there's plenty of middle ground and I pretty much know I'll only be winning it with a snipe bid later.

oddly enough a middle ground bid won an item for me today.
