....Karl from African seeds is currently out of business........just after the Emery fiasco he was investigated by the S.A. po-po and decided to stop his seed distribution venture.......He told me that he believed that there was some link........so could not supply African seeds anymore due to security concerns for him in South Africa....

You shouldn't hesitate to order from gypsy. Afropips stock from what I understand is good and gypsy has filled something like 15 million orders and never sacrificed anyones security. Just don't make the mistake I did and don't send your addy out over pm.

I've never ordered from them before but you should try an austrian company called house of reggae.

One that I'd really like to see people growing is the kariba surprise zimbabwe. The tribe that this strain came from (the butoka) have one of if not THE oldest cannabis using culture in africa. This is a very ancient and historically important strain and of the strains that are commercially available I'm worried that this one will disapear into obscurity. The story behind the ethiopian is crazy and I can see why your interested. Hey, if its good enough for selassie and zauditu its good enough for the rest of us right? I have reason to believe it will be put on seedbay fairly soon. Though not by me.

Transkei Green

Transkei Green

I bought some of their transkei green many years back from gypsy and have grown them out only to reproduce the seed stock because i only got 15 seeds and sativa's are too long to finish in my area outdoors. However I will tell you that it is PURE ass sativa! Exotic looking everything with skinny long leaves and a look that doesnt match anything else. Was successful in makng some seeds however and they are being tsted now. I used all my seeds from gypsy and pulled the weak looking males and females. WEIRD LOOKING SHIT!
its a shame they went out of buisness but hey thats better than jail right! Plus I am sure people have stock of africans genetics out and abouwt.

hi, i like the sound of the karibe and transkie. infact i would have liked to have bought them all and spread the cost out over a year or so. most african types seem far quicker than the last landrace i tried indoors. i was on the brink of ordering some of afropips seeds and then read he had made a hybrid called afghan congo or something. it sounded awesome until he admited to using a nirvana afghani from a £10 pack of seeds as the father plant. nuff said i reckon.

There aare still one or two places with African Seeds stock, so that will probably be your best bet. The Ethiopian is good stuff but quite mild compare to things like Malawi Gold, it would probably be perfect for breeding to a longer flowering sativa though as the Thiopian is quite fast and some are done in 9 weeks. There are two definite phenos though, one is quite short and indica in height and structure although the leaves are very thin and it's a sativa high, that one is the fast finisher and is great indoors.

I always fancied the Karibe too but never got roung to buying any while I still could, ah well, you can't grow every strain out there, as much as I'd like to!

That Nirvana Afghani got my goat too, it was used to make the Nigerian x Afghan. It shows you a breeder's standards when he uses the second cheapest and most common Afghani, expesially when there are things like Deep Chunk and Maple Leaf Indica available that are classic Afghanis. Nigerian x Deep Chunk would scream 'buy me' to me, but Nigerian x Nirvana Afghan definitely doesn't.

Surely, if Afropips had tried, he could have tracked down a good stable indica, I mean, the Nigerian is a P1 landrace (that is, if it isn't a copy of reeferman's Nigerian) so ideally, you'd want a P1 indica to cross it to. I know of at least 8 strains available commercially that are selected indica landraces, of if Afropips had asked folks, I'm sure someone would have traded him a P1 indica or close to P1 for some of his African P1s.

I haven't, it was outdoors about 6 years ago alongside some Durban Poison and Durban Poison x Skunk #1, the Ethiopian finished at the same time as the Durban, a couple of weeks after the Durban x Skunk. I took some Ethiopian clones and a friend grew them indoors, the tall pheno had to be tied down indoors but the shorter one seemed a keeper as an indoor sativa, not the most potent but a fairly unique and exotic smoke, similar in strength to the Durban, I found it a little more stony if you smoked a fair bit. It wasn't at all mold sensitive as they had to put up with three or four really damp weeks at the end of the season and never had any mould at all, the Durban had the odd tiny spot of mould, I think it was the third week of October I cut them, the Durban x Skunk came down at the beginning of October.

Since I grew the Ethiopian I've grown a few other landrace sativas and I reckon the Ethiopian Highland is one of the fastest finishing for sure, and one of the toughest, although I've found a couple of other highland sativas are also pretty tough, I reckon at altitude they have to deal with extremes of temperature and fog, mist and cloud so they have to be pretty hardy.

Hi,

We had some of the Ethiopeans, Malawi and Karibe stock and have reproduced seeds for preservation from the origionals, that is is apart from the Ethiopean that came from Rahan for preservation as he thought this might happen, great foresight there and good timing.

We have been waiting to see what occured with the AS co and when they would be back. So thanks for the info GN.

We also consider them authenticated African lines. Important breeding lines, therefore we created a backup. They are all excellant breeding stocks for sure, they will need growing out and a assecion making in the next couple of years but they are safe..

BH, please check your PMs, about to drop you one on the Pure Indicas, sorry for delay, been away.

That's good that you reproduced the Ethiopian highland, Kariba and Malawi. We also reproduced the Ethiopian but I think with less individuals than you. We are also trying to save their malawi but is hard because mine got a bottle neck: when first reproduced, I had only two (or even one? can't remember) males and one female.

I also had their Swazi redbeard but I trusted a man I shouldn't have trusted and he went with all the seeds to reproduce them and I hadn't any news since then.

How were the Ethiopians, Queijo? Did you had two phenos? How was the smoke? Did you find it more or less potent than the Malawi?

I think other people have African seeds line, 20'Thai and others, I wonder if someone still have seeds of the Zambian copper and wild Durban, these two last seemed very interesting imo.

Good vibes to all :)

I believe Seedsman's are indeed from African Seeds stock. Here's a few more of their Malawi Gold - smoking it right now - fabulous stuff:

Yep...:(

In the grow thread, I apologised for the delay in posting harvest pics, due to that very fact. It took me four goddamn hours!

Still, it was worth it...and I could probably hold down a job at a hairdressers now...:)
