Been a few times to Africa.

Have many wonderful memories, and some harrowing tales from my time there.

Truly magical, one day hope I could go again.

Hi geneva sativa I couldn't agree more, I loved Africa and the people are beautiful I had some true friends there. But there are some really murderous outlaws as well. People you dont want to meet who hate just for the sake of it.
But you are not likely to meet them in the normal course of events and it is an amazing country.
i couldn't recommend it more as a place to visit using your common sense.

yeah, I also got so many stories from people I stayed with.

My friend that I stayed with, a Kenyan guy had been tied up in his house the night before I arrived. . . the thieves took his T.V. and gagged him, luckily left him living.

Two ladies I met, one a former model had her face slashed on the beach for no apparent reason. Another had a brick to the head through driver door window and was left for dead.

On Kiambu Road about 8:30 PM driving toward Nairobi, flashlights, flashlights dancing in the middle of the road, long empty stretch. . . my friend, a Kenyan girl was driving and she put the pedal down and blew right through them. Everyone said that, had we a stopped, wouldn't have been telling them that story.

Panga such a gruesome way to go.

Many other stories.

One problem is that the punishment for robbery is the same as for killing someone, so some them often figure not leave witness around I guess.

But the kindest, wildest village out past Kakamega. Smiling people, so generous and welcoming to us. Drumming through the night in the hills there, opening portals.

Absolutely beautiful country, lush and hilly, misty and gorgeous !

There are many countries that are known as more safe and friendly, and some that are spotty, especially if not careful.

Yeah you got that right, we were renting a house on the shore of lake Malawi and the first night there, we all got robbed of our wallets, my brother in law saw the guy leaving and tried to tackle him but he was naked and covered in oil so he just slipped through his fingers.
My brother in laws brother owns a small shop in Johanesburg. One day while he was in the back office a guy went to the check out with his shopping and the teller rang it up and asked for the money. The guy just pulled out a pistol and shot him in the head for $30 worth of shopping and just strolled out the shop like nothing had happened.
An Aussie guy I know was in Durban on a conference and thought it was a lovely day to hire a bike and ride around and see the sites like he does here in Australia.
The doorman warned him not to take his SLR camera that he had round his neck, as he said someone would not think twice to kill him for it, its easier to rob a dead person they dont scream as much.
But its a wonderful place as long as you stick to the crowded areas and dont go down any badly lit streets at night.

A few days ago, here in the former Transkei, my elderly neighbour and his wife were beaten, tied-up and stabbed to death in a robbery at their home by five youths. One of the youths was caught by a mob and 'necklaced' (burnt alive with car tire around neck).
Africa can be a tough place that's for sure.

Hi simple gardener thats true the majority are honest and trust worthy and hate the crooks as much as any body else. I feel so sorry for the good honest people who get fucked by the government and every department down, just trying to make a living.
Africa has a long way to go before its a just place for the average family unfortunately, the general public cant rely on help from the police unless they have influential friends.
We had a small farm in northern Zambia and one night one of the farm workers was killed by a person trying to rob him. We called the police but they couldn't come round until the following morning as the officers had taken all the patrol cars home!
I miss Africa but am glad to live in Australia now it much safer.
