i would love to grow in africa...
too many holy grail strains are from african origin...
anyway i wish all your babies happy and bigbud life
(if you wanna see my african things, look at my outdoor from 08)
I agree, there are some great sativas to be found here.
Nice outdoor DP man! Just looked at your 08 outdoor....
I plan on doing some gorilla growing come spring. I want to see how the strains I've been working on produce as big trees
Here are how some of mine are doing
2 males. Congo on the left, Swazi on the right.
This Swazi male will be used to pollinate Swazi for 3rd gen Swazi beans and will pollinate 2 Congo girls.
I've got some african strains just starting to flower now. They are definitely sativas but came in a mixed pack from a friend so I don't know what is what. I do know they aren't taking as long as I thought they would being sativas and all. They are very fast growing vigorous plants. I will post pics as soon as I get a chance, they're nice.
Hey bro! I unfortunately found no keeper Congo males. 2 were undesirable specimens and the one I planned on using started throwing lots of pistils so I destroyed it. Got 2 real nice Congo girls though. Really exotic looking to me and lots of resin too.
I have however collected lots of pollen from my broad leaf Swazi pheno and have got some 3rd gen Swazi beans forming and Congp Black x Swazi seeds forming on both Congo ladies. The swazi male showed good resin under the loupe. I'm exited about this cross.
Here they are forming on Congo black "Smelly pheno"
The same pheno, really pungent stinky smell with great resin so far
The other pheno. Seems to build bud very quickly and is also quite colourfull and good resin. Really nice smell on this one
All the girls together. Swazi, DP, Cs x Dp and Congo.
Chinese sativa x DP showing nice cool temp realted colours
joluvs2gro, good African sativas are usually very vigorous and fast growing with often realtively short flowering times for sativas. I would very much like to see some pics when you can.
Hey AH...so happy to see Congo pics..sound fastastic as you describe it,also love the shape those calixes are developing forming the seeds,I love how sativa seeds forms. It´s a pitty you didnt found a good male on this one,but sure the Swazi one will do great job,wow,3rd swazi gen and Congo x Swazi for the future....you´re gonna have fun and nice plants
Also have to say I´m loving your growing form...with not big plants but so many buds forming at the same level, perfect!
Wow you've been busy AH...Lookin lovely mate...Shame you didnt get a Congo male but those other crosses sound excellent anyhoo....I might have a nice half-congo male around me soon coming from a friend as I wanted a Congo male to cross with my SugaPuffz(and for longterm African hybrid project) and thats the nearest I could get (b4 I can get back to the Motherland...hopefully very early next year). I'm gonna go back to SA,Malawi and Lesotho again for a month or 2 then another couple of months in Ghana, congo,Madagascar if poss. I'll pop in for a Roibos if I get near to ya! ;]
I have been promised a large batch of pips of an excellent Transkei green from the same area I got it from in early 90's so should be worthwhile even if thats all I find(I'm sure it won't).
I always enjoy seeing your plants as it inspires me to get back out there seedhunting while its still Feasible....
Luck and Lumens to ya mate...JBo
Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to quickly chime in and comment on what a terrific thread this is. Its always a great pleasure to see varieties being lovingly grown and tended in their native soils!
Good to see you again Txopín-Iruña! Here are some black Congolese pics for you. I hope you can also find some great phenos and a great stud for your lonely congo girl
Congo Black pheno#1
Pheno #2
And here is a phenotype of a Chinese sativa x Durban poison going purple. She has very fat, solid buds but is just too leafy and a bit of foxtailing. If I can get her to re-veg, I plan on dusting her with some pure Indica pollen in an attempt at a better calyx to leaf ratio and to add some indica weight to those fat buds. She was also VERY early flowering, a trait that came from the mother. A little over a month before any of the other sativas started showing. Also very branchy and squat nature with surprisingly little stretch. I can see some good potential in a cross like that, 50/50 indica/sativa. I also like the added bonus of nice autumn colours.
Hey Londinium, and thanks. That's going to be an amazing strain hunting trip man. I know you will have too many strains to know what to do with.
If you get close to Jozi, let me know.... Dan ons kan n' Rooibos of n' Ricoffy kry
The 2 Congo Black are so nice...good finding, many resin in buds and nice flowers. What about the smells of buds?
I´ve to start some of those and search a nice father for my solitaire Congolese.Same I say for the Chinese x DP,looking beautiful also......the cross with an indica to gain weight and more calix/flowers ratio sound perfect also, hope I can help in the future adding some indicas to your list of nice strains to work with.
Love all your work and results..continue with it and let us enjoy of the pics from time to time,I´ll continue attentive to this thread
It was in the early nineties when i smoked a few African like Nigerian, homegrown Durban and even Ghanaian ganja, but what i can remember the import ganja was pretty trippy and energetic, more than the Thai that was sold at that time.Nowadays it is hard to find a good African strain, even the homegrown Durban is hard to find.
I have also a few seedlings of Early Lesotho which i will show a few pics later on.
El Manito...wow,interesting little plant there, think I havent seen before any ghanaian one, only in a pic with the frase " ganjah in ghana " with a thin sativa and a man with her.The lesotho sounds also so interesting, would love to see both growing and blooming next!
AH...nice second Swazi generation! It seems those buds should have a pretty scent right now, what is it like?Very good resin quantity in buds, great!I was curious and wanted to ask why the foxtailed pheno is not selected, sure the one you´ve selected is the best and the 3rd generation will be fantastic.Great work and nice stuff as always!
Elmanito those babys are taking off nicely! I am looking forward to seeing how they progress. Nice work man.
Thanks Txopín-Iruña...
The smells on the Swazis are quite strong for Swazi which I am happy about. The better pheno has a typical sweet sativa smell but with some added thick, smelly dankness to it. It's hard to explain but I'm sure you have smelt that kind of stink some sativas can produce. Not like their Indica cousins stink. It's a nice smooth, complex sativa smell with no harshness or offensive odors. Both phenos have similar smells but they differ slightly. I prefer the smell on the better pheno. More meaty smelling which I have often found to be an indicator of high potency.
I didn't choose the foxtail pheno because the bud structure is not what I would expect and want from a Swazi. She has a very airy nature too which with the foxtailing, is not a trait I want. The resin production is also not what I would like to see.
She does have some good attributes though. Earlier to flower than the better pheno, more vigour from the beginning, good smell and has good sized nugs. I think she would be better crossed to an Indica, but then if I had the choice I would use the better pheno in any case. Now just to sample the high before final say...
I will post some pics of the Durbans. They are slow to progress into flowering but are fast to ripen.
Here's a better pic of the Swazi resin. I have another Swazi line I think I would like to introduce. Seeds from VERY crystaly Swazi buds I came across.
