Afgooey in the Winter, a Bubble Hash Dream...

BC, great job with the Afgooey.. it looks real tasty. I can't believe this was your first run with her, as someone already mentioned this grow looks dialed in!

I just had a few questions about your training techniques -- you said the plant was topped once and supercropped. (I can't believe this but I've never had an explanation of what supercropping is.. ) So could you elaborate a little bit on the training required to end up with a beautiful plant like yours?

Thanks a lot.

Thank you very much.. she's an easy plant to grow, so I'm sure that makes it alot easier to get a beautiful plant outa her.

Well, i'ts actualy quite simple.. i don't really use 'traditional' supercropping..

SCing usualy involves more intrusive and agressive bending and crushing of the 'hurd'. It works, but i find it takes too long to recover from, and gives u strange branch shapes, and can really screw up some plants..

A better form of SCing involves simply twisting the stems (pinching/grabbing corrosponding nodes with each hand[pointer finger/thumb]) until u hear a 'pop'.. THat pop is the hurd collapsing/snapping.. this way keeps the plants natural structure, and while it slows the plant down some, it's far less than from bending..

Now the way I do it is much more simple.. I simply pinch the stem/branch in between the nodes until it colapses (crushes) slightly.. I do this from the very begining usualy, on almost eavy single part of the plant. I also use this technique (u can use the other methods too) to shape plants the way I would like them.. I use it to get the plants to grow in a specific shape depending on whether I flower under a normal mounted light or a verticle light.. For verticle lighting I get the plant to grow in a tiered shape, like bleachers.. so that i don't need to rotate the plant at all, which saves tons of time/hassle.. I simply 'crush' the front branches and don't do anything to the back ones..

It's simple and effective.. You can see the results on the ECSD, BullRider, and a few others..

The afgooey in this thread was shaped for horizontal light.. I used 'hurd crushing/pinching' to get all the tops and canopy even, essentialy creating a SCROG plant without the screen.

Here's an example of an Afgooey shaped/trained for vert lighting.. this was just a tiny extra clone i flowered out in a 1 qt yogurt container..
