Whats up everybody

I am a OG refugee that found my way to ICmag one day, I have been surfing around IC for a while now, and I have finally decided to share my current grow with all the cool people that hang out here.

The seeds are Nirvana Afghani, purchased a couple of years ago, This is my first grow in hydro, and I didn't want to risk messing up some expensive beans. I germed the seeds by soaking in a shot glass full of water for 24 hrs, and then planting in 2" oasis cubes. 7 were up within 72hrs, and the 8th took about 5 days, 8/10 seeds germed. About a week later the cubes were placed in 5" netpots and into my hydro system


It is a closet grow, 23" x 40" x 6' tall, 400w HPS Hortilux in an Air Cooled Hood & 265 cfm blower.
The System is a hybrid aero / dwc that I copied from a buddy of mine, who got the idea from "Karma's cheap and easy aeroponics" on OG. Basically its a 35 gallon rubbermaid with 10 gallons of nute solution in the bottom. It has a pump inside hooked to aero sprayers that runs 30min on 90min off in the light cycle.


The nutes I am using consist of Pure Blend Pro, Liquid Karma, Cal Mag+, Silica Blast, Earth Nectar/Ambrosia, AN Turantula, EJ Catalyst, Some Superthrive in veg, FF BigBloom & EJ Bloom in small amounts in flower, and GreenFuse Bloom stimulant.

The Afghani is pretty nute sensitive so I am running pretty close to 1/10 recomended strength on the nutes and they seem to love it.

I found this strain to veg pretty slowly, but the health was overall pretty good. I vegged them for 7 weeks, at which point the best 3 females were placed under a 8" high SCROG and 12/12 was initiated, they were trained into the screen as they stretched. I was hoping for them to double in size in the stretch and it was close, but didn't quite fill the whole screen.

Today is day 23 and they have seriously blown up in the past week, they are starting to bud strong, frost up, and get smelly...

And that brings us up to date.......

Overall, for it being my first time with hydro I am extremely happy with the results, although I am sure I can get things tweaked much better in the future. I am also very happy with my choice of strain, I have always had excellent results with Nirvana Seeds despite them being inexpensive, they definately aren't cheap.....

Thanks for stopping in, I think we are going to be in for quite a show here, I swear the buds get bigger every time I look at them.

So I decided this morning to take some better bud-shots about 10 minutes before the light came on. I just changed out the nutrient solution yesterday, and I think that combined with the colder temps we have been having have really perked the plants up.

This wednesday will be 4 weeks flower, the half-way point, I am planning on them going 56 days (8wks) So that puts the harvest early December........just in time for finals week.

dezylu - ya your afghani's are looking really good, are they Nirvana as well? I grew in soil for about 2 years or so, it works well if you do it right, I had a Nirvana Jack Herer grow in foxfarm ocean forest soil that yelded about a 1/2lb under my 400 watter which isn't too bad. I just got sick of repotting, and buying and getting rid of soil. Hydro is fun and surprisingly easy if you just listen to all the good tips people have and make changes gradually.

Captain Jack - I beleive that using the beneficial microorganisms definately had an effect on the health of the plants and the beautiful roots. The Earth Nectar is "a broad spectrum of thousands of species of known beneficial soil-born bacteria and mycorrhizae"(from the label) and the Earth Ambrosia is "a nutrient rich cocktail of biologically available liquid humus plus chelated trace minerals" that helps to feed to stuff in the EN. I only used the EN/EA and Turantula until the second week of flower (thats what it recomended on the AN website for the turantula) The only downside to either product is the Turantula is a powder, and leaves a lot of sediment in the water, and the Earth Ambrosia is like black ink in the water. I don't think its really that big a deal however.

The plants are getting stronger odor to them. One smells sort of like rotting fruit, one sort of a coffee smell, and the other still smells sort of green, with maybe a hint of banana peels. I can't wait to see what they smell like in a couple of weeks.....

Well, I took the advice of a friend of mine and started trimming leaves to open the plant up to more light and airflow, I have been taking off a couple handfuls a day for the past couple of days. The Buds are starting to fill in on the stem, and they are getting fatter by the day.


Plants 1 & 2 have a nice sort of faint rotting fruit smell to them, and I have caught whiffs of #1 that smell of sour fruit like really similar to pineapple, #2 has some spiceier earthier undertones, a little bit of coffee. Plant #3 still doesn't have much of a smell, just a faint whiff of green and banana peels.

They are getting frostier....It looks like I am gonna get a good run with my bubblebags after I trim them up.






The temps in the closet have been around 72-75 in the day and 58-60 at night. I decided to put the little fan on the same timer as the light at least until week 6 or so, when I will want more circulation to lower the humidity at night, and maybe the plants will get colorful with the low temps

Today is day 29, 4 weeks and 1 day, just over half way there

I changed out the nute solution today, I started introducing the soil bloom in with the normal bloom, 8ml soil and 32ml regular bloom.

I did some trimming and removed most of the fan leaves that were blocking lower budsites.

The buds are getting bigger, smellier, and frostier, I can't even imagine what they will look like in another 4 weeks

Day 34

Day 34

Today is day 34, 22 Days left to go, The end is finally in sight.

I am so glad I took the plunge and switched to hydro, things just look soo good. The Leaves are getting more and more trichs on them. It looks like I am gonna get a grip of hash when I trim these babies up. I have the one gallon, seven bag BubbleBags, and they make some top quality hashish. I am trying to decide which bags to go with when I run it. I have done it before where I run the filter bag, and one or two bags after that to get contaminants, and then finish with the 23u(whatever the smallest one is) just putting all the grades into one pile. I am not sure if I will do it that way, or use all the bags and seperate out the different grades...



I mixed up new nutes today, and they are power-heading for 24hrs before I put them in tomorrow. I am slowly tapering down on the amounts of cal-mag+, and tapering up with greenfuse bloom stimulant. I use a 110gph pump with a length of hose attached to pump all the water out of the reservoir, and then pump all the new water in. 10 gallons of water is heavy enough that I dont want to deal with lugging it around.

The buds are starting to REEK, but in a good way. I had the door off for a half hour or so today doing some pruning and training, and it stunk my whole house up. The smell is like a mix of funky rotton fruit/grapes and just a hint of funky bad breath like morning breath.












I am hoping for somewhere around 8oz's but we will see what happens, It all depends on how much they fatten up over the next three weeks. Either way, I am going to have PLENTY of top quality nuggage to smoke on over the holidaze and into the new year. Thanks for stopping in and taking a look at the ladies.

I am blown away by these plants, I changed out the water today, and as Im sitting there im thinking to myself.....wait....shouldn't the sprayers be running right now?....So I took out the timer they were hooked to, the damn thing somehow reset itself, and lost all the on/off settings, I don't know how long it has been like that, I know it hasn't been too long cause I remember them running a few days ago. The roots and the plants look fine so it seems no permanent harm is done.

They stink so freaking strong, it is so sweet and fruity, almost getting sickly sweet, it smells like candy. Most of what I have read says that afghani has more of a hashy/piney taste and smell to it, so we will just have to see how things evolve.

I had to crank up my ozone generator to keep up. It was running something like 22 minutes on 50 minutes off, and now it is 32 minutes on, 40 minutes off. These are by far the smelliest plants I have ever encountered.

What is up Smokey and Fernandro,

Those buds most definately are on their way to massive, they get bigger every time I look at them.

Thinking of all this dank ass bomb weed is making me think about what I am gonna be smoking them out of.

I had a Roor classic

What a piece of smoking equipment that was, but my dog knocked it over and broke it (stupid me yes I know)

And my lovely sherlock, I had it in a drawer and I was rummaging around and knocked it into the lip of a mason jar lid, it took a tiny little semicircle chip out of the carb, so now it is all jagged to hold

A couple of years ago I had a kick-ass little Gerome Baker, about a foot tall, the perfect size to just hit it all day long. I had it sitting on top of a tower speaker, and my room-mate's girlfriend bumped it, knocked the bong off, and broke it in half.......a very depressing day for sure, as this was exactly the time that Gerome got shut down, and Tommy Chong got locked up for selling glass. So I knew I couldn't replace it. I took the top half of the bong, with all the cool glass work and dichrome on it, and I wrapped it in a towel and put it in my drawer, to re-emerge when the time was right..........

And that time is now

There is a head shop in town that has a glass blowing studio in the back where they blow alot of their own stuff. The owner of the shop makes glass on glass pieces and has some very impressive stuff to show off.

I am going to have him blow a new piece, using the top half of my old gerome, and the difuser downstem from my old Roor, He quoted me around $100 to blow me one using just my old stem and bowl, but I haven't talked to him about using the top half of the old bong, I dont know for sure if it is possible. I got the bugger all cleaned up and I am gonna go talk to him and see what he says.






I am also gonna talk to him about fixing the carb on my sherlock.

I have also been looking at VaporDoc vaporizers, a buddy of mine has a volcano, and wow, what a piece of equipment, but at $500+ It is just a little out of my price range.

Sorry for the ramble, thats what I get for wake and baking.
