Alright, been awhile since I last posted about this and things are going FANTASTIC! The cab is about 90% complete. The electric has been run (I feel I did this very clean, installed boxes with electrical outlets in the back of the cab), the lights have been hung, the louvers have been installed and the fan and filter are in place. The cab has been caulked and magnets/locks have been installed on the doors. The only thing left for me to do now is to weather strip the doors, re-attach the fan to the filter (had to disconnect to caulk) and to hide the gear that is sitting on top of the cabinet.
Once that is all done, I'm going to run the cab for a few days and see what kind of temps I get. I decided to go with 4 darkroom louvers. 1 on the lower/middle of the back of each cab and 1 on the top/outside of the front of the cab (the roof of the cab not on the door). There is room to install 4 more if needed. Hoping that the ones I have will be enough though.
I've got about 30 gallons of organic living soil composting in the basement. Curious to see how it does. It's 33% leaf mold and peat, 33% aeration and 33% worm castings and compost. So, my mix consist of:
5 Gallons-Screened Homemade Leaf Mold
5 Gallons-Peat
5 Gallons-Perlite
5 Gallons-Vermiculite
5 Gallons-Screened Homemade compost
5 Gallons-Screened Homemade worm castings
I'm going to try and source some more aeration materials to get a little more diversity into the mix. I think I have some lava rocks in the attic from a bio bucket grow I've done in the past. Just got to get up there and see how much I have.
My food mix, I went with:
2 cups Bloodmeal (Left over from previous grows, eliminating it once its used up)
2 cups Bonemeal (same as the blood)
2 cups Alfalfa Meal
2 cups Cottonseed Meal
My fix it mix, I went with:
2.5 cups Kelp Meal
2.5 cups Crab Meal
Haven't been able to source Neem Meal or Karanja Meal locally so I'm more than likely going to have to order them online.
My mineral mix, I went with:
just over 3/4 cup Azomite
just over 3/4 cup Gypsum
just over 3/4 cup Dolomite (same as the blood and bone)
just over 3/4 cup Oyster Shell
just over 3/4 cup Green Sand
Haven't been able to source glacial rock dust locally either so may have to order it online.
Will have pics of everything once I get a chance to take some. I'm really excited on how this thing is turning out. I've grown many different ways, but this cab, seems to be the cleanest of them all. We'll see soon how it does.
Curious if anyone has any recommendations on plant numbers and container sizes using this mix. Each flower cab is 23"Lx19"Wx47.5"H. It appears I can fit 9 1gallon containers or 4 - 3,5,or7gallon containers per side. I've thought about starting 4 or 8 seeds and throwing all the females in 3 gallon grow bags. Thinking if I get 50/50 male/female, I'd have 1 or 2 plants per 150w. What would be the limit of plants under a 150 and still get a decent yield?? I guess what I'm asking is, under a 150w light, how many plants in what size containers would be best using the soil mix I have?? Am I correct to assume the bigger the container the better?? Any suggestions on this?? Thank you.
