Adventures in Pollen Chucking

Good luck on your adventure. I can only add that a little goes a long way and always keep a spray bottle of tap water around to clean your self after you play with the pollen. Tap water will also kill any extra pollen on the exterior of the plant after the pistols have gobbled up the pollen they want. FYI

What I've found easiest, is to get colored kids craft pipe cleaners for a dollar in the art supply aisle at wallyworld...

red=gg4, so every branch marked with a piece of red pipe cleaner will be from that pollen
blue=ancient og, etc...

makes it real easy to keep track of what pollen went where when you move and rotate your plants.
I tend to throw 3-4 pollens at the exact same plant.

Thanks great idea. We just got back from wally world and bought a multicolored bag.

Here's the thread documenting my modest efforts:

Ongoing project, my fist cross using info from posts on icmag.com.

awesome. Thanks for sharing. Always love color in buds.

Thank you. I now have one handy.

Hey
5 years ago i also had an pollen chucking adventure^^
I crossed a nice Bubblegum female from spliff seeds with a feminized GHS Cheese that became male...
The bubblegum female was a pretty light smoke but the taste was nice (didnt taste like bubblegum tho :p ) and it was a heavy yielder.
The cheese father was a very smelly plant, and i was very surprised when i discovered it became male (again, the cheese was supposed to be feminized).
Anyways, i decided to put some pollen on a small sidebud and i got somthin like 16 seeds.
I only grew 2 a few years ago, and while it had a nice daytime high, the taste was just terrible after drying.
luckily after 2-3 weeks curing it became smooth and fruity, and everybody who smelled/smoked it was very pleased :)

Last week i decided to pop another 2 seeds of my Bubblecheese, so lets see what comes around this time hehe, maybe i will post some pics when they are in flower, but it will take at least another 2 months ^^

how are use collecting the pollen ?

I got a white piece of paper, cut the branch of with the white paper under it, striped of any open or about to open pollen sacs, and discarded the branch. I had a plastic container filled with about 1.5" of rice laid the paper on top and closed it. Then I let it dry for a few days. After that I used a paint brush to slowly collected into an envelope and then that envelope was set back into a bag of rice with other envelopes. Each envelope was separated into single use packets then put back into the main envelope which was put back into the bag of rice. They will go into the fridge for a day and then stored in the freezer until needed again.

Got too late to pollinate last not so doing that right now after I am done responding.

I have pics to share too. Hope something super awesome is created out of this lovely experiment. I sure can't wait to try it on a bigger scale. Here are my pics....

PS. Sorry for delays in responses at times. I have an amazing career that takes up too much of my time. And when I'm home it's all about our family. I'm getting used to ICMAG. Lol.. Ok I need the hubby to help me with these pics. Pics in a sec.

These are them after pollination. Looks good so far I think. These are pictures of the pollen taking. We will see how they turn out after harvest. I will be checking in with the bean count then.

Yes! It's harvest seeds day today! I'm very excited to see them. My husband cheated already and while I was at work he took a peak at one. I will post pics later. He said they will be grown outdoors, I say but some will be indoors. Sure is a long process to end results. Thanks to those who are still watching. The rest of the crop looks untouched from cross contamination, and turned out frosty, smelly, and not as leafy. Stay tuned :)

Well here we are. Used a little in some areas. Got only a few seeds of Killer Queen x Blue Tara and the Blue Tara f2. My husband and I sent some seeds to a friend and this is what is left.

I think I want to try it on a bigger scale next time now that I have learned some of the fundamentals. Next will be to plant them and see what we get. Will do this summer. The other run is in effect as of now so I have to wait my turn.
