Adding rooting hormones to water

Along with many others, I have troubles with cloning.

I just completed a whole new mom/veg box just for this reason.

I am attempting several methods of cloning at the same time, including simpley soaking the cuttings in a glass of water.

My Question: Can you add rooting hormones (gel/powders) to the water to assist in this process?

Thanks in advance.

I have tried many ways of cloning and have had the best luck using rapid rooters. My second most succesful way was with 50 percent perlite and 50 percent vermiculite mixed. Have you tried these methods? I suppose you could try adding this to the water, but I am unsure of the amount you would use. The key to cloning seems to be temperature, mild light and the right amount of moisture in your medium.....

The problem with unaerated water is just that....

without aeration its very slow....

Not a very good choice....

I have a thread in this forum that I expect you have seen.....
http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=42847

I demonstrate some variables like hormone vs none....

perlite vs vermiculite.... I hope it saves you some time.....

I agree with jjscorpio but add a little high quality rooting hormone....

clonex.... and you cant miss....

use aerated water!!!! get a cheap aquarium pump and airstone.
my clones root twice as fast with bubbles(at least thats been my experience).
if you use rooting hormone go very diluted, it did some funky things to my clones B4 they died( i think i used to much).

Thanks for the help..I have bought and tried just about everything else, I think a pump and airstone could be easy enough.

I tried the rapid rooters last go around as well and they worked alright, but seemed like
i was not getting the same roots as friends with rockwool and others with water.

After two weeks I should have roots coming out of the rooters, correct?? - one did the
others (8) did not.

I am switching from scorg to SOG on this grow and next and NEED to have this down and working before I go again.

DOne right 2 weeks you should have plenty of roots....

I posted this pic this weekend after 9 days....

One secret is..... clonex.....

Thanks

Do you guys run the lights 24 hours for the solid two weeks, or something different. I am using the tech 5(?) floros 2x24 watt lights on solid 24 for now, but I always like to give them some dark.

Start the light right on them, or start it high and move it down.

I use floros.... normal shop light and kitchen and bath bulbs....

I use a short dark cycle....

Once they are rooted I expect they can take normal veg lighting.....

during cloning I keep the light like 12 -18 inches away...

Did you use a gel with the rapid rooters???

I was SUPER perfect with this last batch because I was losing the mom to another place. (Northern Lights). I cut them all then place them under water to re-cut at a 45 under a second node dipped in gel then place in rapid rooters. I placed the rooters in cups with a perlite/coco mix just to hold some wetness. I Kept the light about 5-7 inches away (both bulbs on) for two weeks then moved under a 400 hps. I got about 50/50 with them as far as I would consider success. Out of 13 I only really lost two but the difference between some that took well and the others (I need nine at the same time) was dramatic. I have never done a SOG before, but I am sure I do not want 3 different size and health of the plant when they go 12/12.

I soak my rw cubes overnight or for a couple days in a 5.5 ph solution of water, rooting hormone, and olivias cloning solution. When I insert the cuttings they are in a "root friendly" environment. Not necessary to root cuttings but I dont like to lose any

Hey skeletor....

I know you love the olivia line....

I was in the hydro store the other day....

I asked the guy about olivias and could he compare it to clonex....

He said clonex hands down....

Ive never tried olivias while Ive tried several other brands....

Use what works best for you man,I'd never consider switching from olivia's products.

regardless of the brand name, someone does actually add the solution directly to water for soaking. Do you dip as well before putting into the rockwool

When I cut a clone I cut my angle and scarify then put it in a glass with the exact same solution I soak my RW cubes in,though fresh not the shit my rw cubes were soaking in.Then I dip in Olivia's cloning gel which is the rooting hormone, the solution is just a high P propagation liquid that promotes rapid rooting. They are two different products

Got It

I am still looking for a consensus on what you do with the light. 24 or do you give them some dark along the way.

I am 12/12 now for about a week in the flower box. I have two rooted in the veg box but they are not moving along as fast as I would like. These need to give me my cuttings for the next batch when due.

i would like to get the cuttings/root them in the veg box and have them ready when I harvest. I cannot afford any down time so would like to move it all along right away.

How far from harvest would you take those cutting for a 9 plant SOG under 400 hps

I'm not sure I'm understanding you,are you asking how far from harvest to take cuttings?About 60 days bro you never want to take cuttings after 12/12 has started, you want good veg cuttings preferably free of pistils. As for rooting cuttings I just use a regular 18/6 photoperiod.I normally take cuttings the day I go 12/12,the night before I give them a good shot of bloom fert for the pheosphorous then its mainly back to the nitrogen for the fiorst 3 weeks of 12/12 with a little bloom fert thrown in there

Sorry for the confusion. If I have a harvest date of 02/14 - When should I be taking clones to start the next round. I cannot afford any downtime at this point.

I started the current ones too early, I want to SOG with 9 plants and let these only veg for about a week maybe ten days before switching. they are much smaller than expected and the stretch was limited.

I have about 2.5 feet of height I can work with.

Q - How long before harvest to cut clones, root, veg under florous - to have 9 ready to flower on 2/14

Man I just cant seem to get my brain around this lol,if you plan on harvesting on 2/14 I hope you arealready vegging

Skeletor, sorry for the confusion and thanks for the efforts.

Q: if you were going to do a SOG grow in a C13 with a 400 hps soil using FF everything 9 plants 1 gallon bags, but were limited in height (I have the original shelf in its place) how many days before flower date would you take cuttings from your mother plants?
