@AcrylicGoblin Garden is looking good 🙌🏼 I planted my Hopi Mapacho and am eager to add some of your tobacco to the plot 😁

I had the same issue with birds eating my cannabis seeds last year when I set up my new greenhouse. Every morning they would come in and gobble them up often before they even sprouted. I gave up directing seeding outdoors as a result of their never ending appetites. It’s funny that this year a bunch of volunteer seeds are popping up all over my outdoor area and the birds leave them alone 😂

@clockwork I grew Kerala Gold last year and the minty scent is definitely in there. I have a few more I’m running this year and am excited to see how they perform. I also crossed them with my best Peruvian from last season and will be hunting through some of those as well to see if the Kerala flavors come through 🤞

Minty-peppery you say? Im curious to see how that ones evolves through flower. I knew someone that kept a dutch treat hybrid that smelled similar for years. The flower was very enjoyable in effect and taste but really shined in the vaporizer for flavor. Have you ever tried Kerala landrace? I've read they can throw some minty phenotypes as well but haven't had a chance to try.

Looks like you should have some variety to choose from, are they all the *75 hybrids on the left in the main photo? Any other smells starting to come up on the stem rubs?

Good luck 👍
I've never tried Kerala landrace. I looked it up and it's sounds interesting. So many strains, so little time...

I have a pretty poor sense of smell. For many years, I occasionally (but somewhat often) used a product called zicam zinc nasal gel to treat/prevent the common cold. They ended up taking it off the market because it caused some people to lose their sense of smell. I didn't lose mine, and I can't say for sure if that was the cause, but it got damaged somehow and now it's really difficult for me to distinguish smells. I made my wife help me with about 50 stem rubs the other day. With her help, here's what we got:

The most common scent was chemical rubber/lemon cleaner, which I don't love. Some are heavier on the lemon than chemical rubber, which are slightly better. Thankfully, the best looking boy and girl both have that minty peppery smell. Only 4 or 5 plants total have that smell (my favorite of the bunch) so I'm really happy to have a good boy and girl to continue with. The remaining plants smelled like a mix of grape/body odor/dirty feet. I couldn't smell the grape that my wife did, only the foot and armpit. Of course, all of these scents will continue to change and develop. I'll keep you all updated.

The CBDV/Oneness Winter of Neglect seed experiment is still rolling along. The seeds are developing nicely.

Overall, the plants look better than expected. 3 of the 4 have scraggly little buds (the 4th is just seeds, leaves, and stems).

I accidentally broke a little branch off of one of the plants. I'm going to dry it in the food dehydrator and roll it into a joint. If it's at all pleasant, I'll start some in this next batch of seeds to give it a fair shot.

You ever try Hapé snuff? I always have better sense of smell after that. Salt and water's great too.
Glad to hear you have some of the minty peppery stems you like,

Thanks for the suggestions. I have not tried Hapé snuff. I do use salt and water from time to time. The problem, unfortunately, is nerve damage. It's not a big deal. In fact, I think it only bothers me in instances like this.

Micro dose magic mushrooms and lions mane mushroom can help regenerate nerves..

Nice feeling culling to the best, so much less work ; ) NIce one you can grow legal, that'd be a whole weight off me, hopefully in a few years. Nice big plants there for start april

I had originally intended to keep all of the plants in one gallon pots, but decided to use slightly bigger pots for the 12 plants that will be away from home. A while ago, I potted the plants that I'll be able to check on most days into 2 gallon pots. The ones that will be across town will go into 3 gallon pots. Those I won't see very often and I want to reduce the chance of them drying out as the person watching them may not be perfectly regular with the watering. Now that the final plants have been chosen, smoke testing will be the main criteria for selecting the next generation so I'm not too concerned about any differences in growth patterns caused by pot size.

Looking good @AcrylicGoblin 😃 The new helper seems to be taking the job of quality control very seriously I see 😂

I've been waiting for the male photos, look at him! 😍 Is that your favorite minty-pepper male or another?

Have you ever tried something like rice hulls as a mulch on top of the pots to help maintain moisture? I've found a layer of hulls on top really helps them from not drying as fast in the smaller pot sizes

Yes, that is the boy with the minty peppery smell. All of the plants that remain are either mint or lemon dominant.

I have used rice hulls as a soil additive but never as a mulch. I like your idea about putting mulch on the small pots to retain moisture and will probably do so with the ones that will stay in gallon pots.

I've started my next batch of seeds. All autos...2 CBDV and 5 Pink Kush CBD, both from seedsman. Also about 20 each of those plants crossed with Oneness from 2023. Lastly, about 15 strawberry jam x Mexican Airlines from flash seeds. These are old seeds, but hopefully I get a few.

I'm thinking May 1st will be the date I start the New Caledonia and other stuff. I have some excellent stuff from @Baba Karuna and @arnold that I'm super excited to work into this project. I'll show those strains when I get them going.

The CBDV-Oneness I sampled the other day had a really nice effect. Relaxing but also slightly uplifting. I'm going to make a fermented cob out of those 4 little plants.
