ACE Malawi Phenotype Reports

Hello, I wanted to start a thread primarily discussing the effects of varying phenotypes found in the Ace Malawi line. Before you say there’s already too many threads about the topic, I have yet to find one specifically talking about individual people’s experiences. Now while I’ve never had the joy of growing it myself, alittle over 13 years ago I bought a quarter of Ace Malawi off of Craigslist and that’s when I first heard about the brand. When I got home and began puffing along I initially felt disappointed as I had yet to comprehend the sudden leap upward my brain would take after about ten minutes. Needless to say, I simply remember floating higher and higher, with an underlying electricity that kept the couchlock on pause. I don’t remember if it was productive or not but it’s been awhile.

Anyways, I’ve been considering using vaying lines for a project as I’m torn about motherlines. So I thought I would data harvest some of your individual experiences in an effort to understand the phenotypes available. I’ve read a few reports about varying ones here and there but they are all quite scattered. So hey jump in and give me a shout out about your growing and smoke experience if you have the time. Thanks 🙏

Thanks for the post friend. 13 years ago is a lot different from now and comparing the now strain to then strain may be difficult.

My buddy grew it out a few years back. It definitely wasn't productive for me. Very narcotic effect for a sativa and couchlock sums it up perfectly.
Interesting 🧐 must be that PCK coming through. Did you find it psychedelic at all?

Its most likely that you smoked something different a different malawi.
Some people have said it's pck related because of the purple malawi pheno and couchlock high and that @dubi is being dishonest about malawi being a pure sativa. Also the very early flower types finished like an indica in 9 weeks are telling
I don't know what the truth is, either way the pure malawi isn't like pck or pck malawi

Pakistani Chitral Kush. I may be getting the indica name wrong but yea they used it earlier on in preserving the strain as far as my knowledge goes.

Its listed as a full blown sativa. I dont know, a lot of folks on here suspect that they're watering down their sativas but ive really enjoyed their genetics. If theres a little indica in their panama they'll get no hell from me about it

All I know is that the guy at the time told me a lot about ACE and how crazy cool they were and gave me some fluffy flower after showing me some towering plants that look similar to what I’ve seen in peoples grows today.

It seems like this narcotic effect is common

Oh wow……so I always thought dubi openly admitted to that I didn’t realize it was circumspect, my bad. For sure, Rob I thought they did that from the get go and I was never bothered but I wouldn’t have repeated a rumour without prefacing if I had known.

On the 'potcast' podcast dubi tells the story of their Malawi, it was sourced from a third party,....so ace can't truly be sure of the genetic makeup, they just recognized its undeniable potency, Durban poison another African sativa has some of the same narcotic qualities, that's because they are both almost certainly bygone indica genetics introduced god knows how long ago, then evolved to the African climate....as for ace's Malawi i would say it is hybridized with something ..I only say that having grown afropips Malawi which is clearly more 'sativa' in growth and bud structure and I would say is a pure landrace

My ace seeds "Malawi" experience was best with it's hybrids, in my opinion.
Panama x malawi has many malawi phenos, with better vigor and terps, same is true for Golden tiger (thai x malawi) but slightly more sativa. I bred using a malawi phenotype from Golden tiger and it produced some consistently reproducible phenotypes I enjoy, I made f2's of 4 of them. I have all the effects I wanted from the golden tiger,

1. Shroomy malawi- smells like leather and meat/cabbage and black pepper: slow creeper, if you don't smoke enough, you don't get the full psychedelic effect, a threshold must be met, but because of how it creeps, you can easily keep walking off that cliff like wiley coyote and get way too high. Strong visual differences, "technicolor" makes colors pop. "Malawi gold" phenotype

2. Haribo/ fruity malawi/silver malawi phenotype: has a more immediate upbeat stimulating "drug" dopamine fix effect. Kills cravings fast, I mean, wake and bake and you can fast 3 hours before feeling hungry kinda effect, through the first 1.5 hours then it tapers to an eased state. I have never "crashed" on this phenotype, it is damn near impossible to overindulge, smoke enough and I put it down and go jog a few miles. No paranoia despite how stimulating it is. smells like Mango, Pineapple, Kiwi, Cherry, sweet Green Tea, carrot and candy lemon, this is the "haribo/silver malawi"phenotype. I suspect high thcv and some cbg.

3.Carrot soda- like ginger Beer with carrot juice mixed in, sounds weird, tasted amazing. Very "dense" malawi phenotype, hashplant pheno. Feels like a mix of phenotype 1 and 2, more tame in effect than #1 and #2 but more approachable if you want couchlock, or if you're a few minutes from bed. Has the stupifying, dissociative psychedelic effects, from #1 mixed with the happy go lucky silly grin dopamine effects from #2. Smoke too much and you can wind up couchlocked like with #1.

4. Mango armpit/rotten cabbage: very similar to #3 but more potent, lower yield. Smells like "baby shit" when smoked, rotted cabbage and unripe bitter mangoes. 2hr effect duration. Tastes like mangoes, green onion, carrot, Brussel sprouts. Very earthy/savory.
