? about CO2 generator and propain tanks in the house...

Just got a CO2 generator and I've tryed to hook it up twice with no luck.
Both times the regulator leaked.
The one my friend gave me with the generator and one I bought at HD.
Both leaked. So I've been a little nervous about keeping this tank in the house.
I'm not keeeping it in the growroom(I heard it can kill your plants if it leaks.
So I keep the tank in the laundry room were there are 2 Passive vents at the top of the room. And run the hose into the growroom.
IS this a bad idea?
Do people ussually keep the tanks outside?
It's not a possibility to keep it outside because it would be too obvious.
So if I get a solid regulator that doesn't leak ,can I keep the tank in that laundry room without fear of dying in my sleep?

I keep my tank in the room next door running the hose through a hole in the wall.Your tanks shouldnt leak

OK,it must of just been bad luck with the regulator I bought.
I'll run it in from the laundry room like I said.
Most people run these tanks from in the house ,huh?

The other reg. I tested was real old.
I got a new one I'll install tonight. Should be fine.
Thanks bro.

What is this regulator? If its the one on the tank it should come with the tank

It's the thing you connect to the Propain tank.
It's not a CO2 tank if thats what your thinkin.
It's a propain burning co2 generator.
The regulator is what you attach to the tank for control of the gas.
The regulator is what has been leaking.
But I bought a new one that shouls be fine.
Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on the tank thing.

Mine didn't come with a regulator when I bought it.
Just a regular propain tank that you get at home depot and exchange when you need a new one. The regulator seems to be the only spot that is leaking.
And it's ussually threw the round part of it.
Do I even need a regulator between the tank and the co2 generator?
Or does the regulator have one built in.
I'm very new to this whole generator thing.

Does your laundry room have a gas dryer or a gas hot water tank?
Because this would be a very bad thing if your reg is still leaking

This is a very bad thing regardless, if you have propane leaking! Get it fixed immediately unless you wish to risk fire (and possible LEO follow-up), injury, and/or death!

Don't worry guys.
I'm not running it with a leaking tank. lol
I wouldn't do that.
I hook it up test it with soapy water and find the leak.
Then I turn it all off.
I'm not going to run it unless I can get it leak proof.
I did use that tape.
It was actually part of the regulator that was leaking.
So it wasn't in my control.
I just need to replace it with my new one and test it for leaks.
Hopefully it won't leak.
There is no dryer or anything in the laundry room.
It's not being used. But there is a natural gas hook up.
But I'm running a propain gerarator though.

The hot water heater is in the hallway outside of the growroom.
If there was a propain leak this place would surely go boom.
I mean I know it's not very safe to have your water heater indoors.
But it is an old place.
The laundry room like I said is not being used but it has 2 passive vents on the cieling.
I figured this would be the safest place in the house to have it because if anything did leak maybe it would go out there.
The laundry room doors will be closed.
The hose fits under it.
So it will be tank in the laundry room running a hose threw the hallway and under the door.To the generator.
Noone comes to my house so the hose in the hallway is fine.
Where do people usually keep there propain tanks?
Indoors? Inthe growroom?
Thanks for the help guys.
This stuff has been bothering me bad.
Very dangerous stuff.
And I sleep not far from all this.
So I need to be extra careful.

Propane is heavier than air, thus, it will creep along the floor, under the door. The passive vents in the ceiling would only help it. Do you have an outside area you could put the tanks thats close enough the hose will reach? It would help with your peace of mind. :)

why dont you convert your CO2 gennie to natural gas and hook it up? that would be stylin'! no running to the propane dealer everytime you need a fill up

I didn't know you could convert like that.
I'm not sure where I could run it into the house from outside.
It would be too obvious and strange if anyone saw it.
My house is in the middle of a bunch of houses.
I don't think I'm gonna run it for now.
It would make me way too paranoid.
It isn't worth it. I'll be moving to a bigger house in the mountains soon.
I'll wait till then to use it.
Unless someone can think of something else.
How do most people do it?

MOst people dont worry that much about it,are you going to strike a match when you smell gas lol?I've had mine inside for years with no problems, just put it in the room next door and run the hose through a hole in the wall

I agree with Skeletor, I've had mine indoor, albeit about 15 feet away in another room, and have never had any problems. I use the teflon tape, check for leaks with soap water, and don't think about it too much. I even use a switch that allows me to connect two tanks to the generator, when one runs out, it automatically switches to the full tank and changes an indicator from green to red. I flip the switch, the indicator changes back to green, and I can disconnect the empty to go refill or exchange. So I have a lot of propane right there, no problems. My suggestions were only aimed at if you're unable to sleep at night, lol.

BTW, have any of you guys seen the larger propane cylinders at the home depot or lowes? I was considering a couple of 40 pounders... :D

what brand is it? the conversion from propane to nat gas is too easy. the manufacturer could send you a new pilot for nat gas. you simply screw off the propane one ans screw on the nat gas one.

I have to get me a larger propane tank I've been refilling it every 2 weeks for years now, gets old

i got a 40lb tank. before i sealed my room properly i filled it every two weeks. i havent had to refill it yet this cycle and ive been goin for almosty 3 weeks now. its just the right size, not too heavy

Hehe, I did see the 100 pounders, I just don't use enough (yet) to justify it. Two 20 lb cylinders get me though a 45 day cycle usually.

Thanks guys.
I'm already all set up for it.
So I guess I should stop worrying so much and just hook it up right so I don't worry about it so much.
IT would only be like this for one or two more grows anyway.
\So I'll set it up with a new regulator I bought.
I'll let you guys know how iot goes.
I'm sure it will be fine.
I just didn't want to be too careless about something like this.
But now after reading some of your posts.
I think I could do it OK. I'll let you all know how it goes.

most manufactures no longer offer conversion kits, because of liability.. not that it can't be done though.

are you using copper tubing with flare fittings or is it a pre-made gas line?? if it's flare did you reem your pipe before flaring it?? did you over tighten it whwn flaring and make the copper too thin at the flare?? stay away from teflon tape it will flake off and clog up you gas supply if not installed properly, use pipe dope. besides that teflon tape is for sealing threads, flare connections do not rely on the threads for sealing the joint, they use compresson.

if your using pre manufactured gas line use pipe dope on the face of the fitting.. not the threads . if it doesn't work get a new hose and hope you didn't over tighten and stretch or crack the tank valve.

ps your playing with fire having a propane cylinder inside.. make sure you have it securly fastened.. if it falls over and the valve gets knocked off.... kiss your ass good bye. leaks would be the least of your worries..
