^ All beans sunken to the bottoms. I’ll leave them in there until this afternoon. Then ziplock them in paper towels until I decide what I want to do with them. Probably just use the Odessa f2 and Chem DD f3 in the garden. The Casey Jones f2 are less important…really just wanted to see if 2009 beans would pop easily.

^ Run food. Little cheese…Green Chile (that’s how it’s spelled in NM)…boiled potatoes on a flour tortilla…bit of pink salt. Quick and relatively healthy.

Change of plans. Work called me this morning to tell me I’m up next for an assignment. So far…the fires that have been starting to pop have been kept small. Next couple stays the forecast is calling for an increase in our winds…so I might not make it into the weekend without having to go drive some equipment somewhere in Region 3 (Arizona/New Mexico).

Because of that knowledge I went ahead and pushed the seed selection/germ process up a couple days.

^ I decided I’ll use the Casey Jones f2 but I’m going to mix them in with the Odessa f2. They are so closely related it will be difficult to tell the differences. They can go into the same plot.

IMG_4930.jpeg

^ The Odessa f2

IMG_4926.jpeg
IMG_4927.jpeg

^ The Chem DD f3. I thought about popping some more of these…but I’m not wanting to expend the seed population with these because they are sketchy to sort out the keeper type expression I’m looking to repeat (remember I mentioned I found a killer expression in the f3 back in 2017 in a similar type outdoor grow…direct sow)….my only plant in the f3. Whereas in the f2 generation indoor and out I never had much luck. So my gut says to go just with these numbers.

It’s going to get more complicated than this…as I will show you in my next post.

On with the process. Covering my bases.

^ This is my security. Eazy Mox Trilogy S1s using 50 seeds from the Number 7 mom (the mom I used in my last grow) and 25 seeds from the Number 5 mom. To guarantee I have no shortage of females and killer expressions. I will use these in every plot. I’m probably only seeking out 8 plots…8 plants total…but that could go up to 12 depending on how I feel and what I see.

IMG_4935.jpeg
IMG_4936.jpeg
IMG_4939.jpeg

^ The Hell Mox f1 seeds and selection of moms I’m using. The Queen Mox mom donated 25. The Queen Hound mom donated 20. A mix of the other Hell Hound moms donated 40.

Numbers rule the day in quick shoot one and done gardening. The Hell Mox will be mixed in like the Eazy Mox Trilogy in every plot.

* To be clear :

The Chem DD, Odessa f2/Casey Jones f2 will only get 2 plots and still compete with the EMT s1 and Hell Mox f1 in those plots. The Chem DD in one the Odessa/Casey in another.

I’ll do what I can to keep a little bit of separation between the different lines concerning those…but basically the Hell Mox and EMT will just be in every plot and not much done to keeping those separate.

Let the best bitches show through is how I’ve always gone about my selections. Objectively show your father what you have and I will let you complete your life cycle. It’s how it should be.

IMG_4940.jpeg

If all goes to plan….I will have the numbers to go about my selection process. There will be male plants but I’m used to that. However it should be female dominant.

There is Method but that doesn’t mean that there will not be chaos

My mind set is open. Where it has to be.

One and done. Only thing that gets saved is the flowers/resins and any self seeds.

I had a lot of success with Chem DD. Started with 2 pacs back in early 2008. Inline bred and many outcrosses.

Cool dude!

^ A burn scar from a fire that started at the Gomez Peak trailhead on Sunday. Embers from a grill. It got picked up quickly.

IMG_4942.jpeg

^ End of the day…beans sinking. Put them in paper towels tomorrow.

^ How I prefer to get my greens. Been juicing for years. It’s not cheap. Juicing will clear the system….

All sunk. Into paper towels some time today.

This weather is not good for planting. High winds next 3 days. Sunday night temps down towards freezing. The garden is…of course…in a hole so I can not risk that.

Monday or Tuesday is what I’m shooting for.

But…this weather…low RH and high winds over a holiday weekend 😂 might have me busy with work.

This is the game I’m going to be playing

Down at the ranch fine tuning the garden beds. The winds are hammering. Can’t even water because the RH is so low my nose started bleeding…as I started…raking. Wetting anything is just a waste of water.

IMG_4953.jpeg

^ I decided I am going to run 12 plants. 6 and 6. This wind is already making me want to run it as a scrog. Especially because I grow vine expressions. More work but safer. I’ll kick myself in the ass if I don’t and my vines get ripped apart in the monsoon winds that will…for sure…be a coming.

Goddamn it my mind is churning up…nothing but…gardening right now. But I’ve got to also focus on the Fire season. It’s going to be a serious balancing act.

The winds are so bad right now….the sky is turning tan/brown from the blowing desert dust. Fire gets going now…it’ll be gone.

^ On my drive back to the barrio from the ranch. It’s blowing and dirty. Man…I can’t convey how much I love living in the high desert. I’m always dirty. 😂

^ 3rd day of this wind event. I’m not thinking I’m going to get called for a fire. It’s down below 40 degrees this morning and the winds make it feel 10 degrees colder. Tomorrow night is supposed to be down to freezing. Monday temps go back up to the mid 70’s days….mid 40’s nights…still shooting for planting on Monday.

Haven’t looked but I’m sure my seeds are tailing out in the paper towels. Not going to look at them until planting…just keeping them covered, warm, and wet.

IMG_4978.jpeg

Fucking around with Sharpies….probably a subliminal self portrait of this time. Tethered to a phone for work that may or may not come today…and the limbo this weather has put me into with the garden.

Hurry up and wait. I can not make a move.

500some miles of bug smear holiday highway in a cargo van transporting pallets of hose and fittings to the Rio Grande Fire…up in Bosque Farms.

Delivered to a Fire Station. Long day. Late start. Late ending…only 15 minutes left on the clock before regulation shut down….Paper Time.

Driving the 2 lane 26 stretch at night with the truckers and holiday revelers….RISEN was sketchy Hatch to Deming. Vision tweaked by bugs, dust, time, and headlight glare

I’m out for a while. I’ll drop back in when there’s something to show.

We basically just flooded the holes and tossed seeds into the water. When the water soaked in it took the seeds with it. Any seed left on the surface..we used our fingers to push them down.

The Chem DD f3, Casey Jones f2, and Odessa f2 were finger planted in designated sections of two holes. The DD in one and the Casey/Odessa in another. The rest of their holes have Hell Mox planted.

I’m not going to get crazy with this grow. I have other things going on….it’s totally being winged. If shit grows it grows if it doesn’t….o well.

Howzit today? Any coconut water to find in your area?
Hey man!

I’m attempting to make this grow a less hands on type thing because I just won’t have the time to deal with it…as much as…my last one. Why I just direct sowed.

However : I already have run into a big problem. Ants. They are cutting down the new pop ups. Because I have all this woody mulch and because I keep it wet for the seed germinations and because I live in a dry place at the dry time of year…yeah I’m sure you can see the issue.

So…goddamn it…I’m letting the beds dry out. I plugged them with so many beans…hopefully some will make it.

I also went ahead and started soaking more beans. Going with just the Eazy Mox Trilogy now because they are fem. I’m going to plant them in 1gal plastic grow brags…2 per bag…and attempt to raise them up that way until they are big enough to go in the ground and defend themselves. Then make my selections as to which look the best (out of the 2 per bag)

So yeah….as always I find my outdoor grows never go as per plan. Very frustrating of course….but not totally unexpected 😂 Actually pretty normal. If not one thing it’s another.

I’ll continue to document it. Right now I just need to go run and not look at my garden for a few days….let it dry out a bit…and not hover over ants destroying seedlings. Let it be. Know when to fight and when to not.

Bottom line? My life got more complicated

😂 Situation Normal All Fucked Up

IMG_5090.jpeg

^ Beans sunk. The single seed is a
Eazy Mox Trilogy s2 from the last grow. Came from Sister 23…my preferred girl

* I’m planting them in natural medium. Same stuff they will live in if all goes well.

I still have some faith that some of the direct sowed seed will survive. I have not given up on them…but ants at that age are tough to get around outdoors. Still…it’s nature. That is the game. I planted many expecting only a few to make the cut. By design.
